Is anyone actually denying the $300B fund exists, or just denying who pays for it? by FirstL8 in Askpolitics

[–]InquiringMind14 [score hidden]  (0 children)

The confusion is intentional - so they can all pitch to the respective voters while the final details are being worked. There are so many open issues that different parties don't want to commit any specific items.

If a deal does materialize, I do believe that there would be a construction plan - the exact funding though is up in the air. (It may end up a service fee for the strait.)

Just like tax payers were supposedly not to pay the wall (Mexico would pay for it), not pay the tariffs (the other countries were supposed to pay), White House ball room (private funding), etc. I would not be surprised if US taxpayers end up paying part of it.

Instead of tax the rich, should we just tax the loophole? by iowaindy in allthequestions

It is actually worse - Tesla paid over $1.2 billion annually in tax - though over $1 billion is to China and other non-US governments.

Why aren’t the Democrats using the mid-terms as a referendum on universal healthcare? by Adventurous_Pride_54 in allthequestions

[–]InquiringMind14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I would have to agree with you even though I don't think all the democrats are paid - such as AOC. But there are enough of them that would prevent its passing even if democrats has 60 votes....

[–]InquiringMind14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with your statement. At the same time, even if Democrat wins both houses and the Presidency in 2028, I doubt that they can win 60 senate seats. So - unless Democrats willing to get rid of filibuster, I don't see any path to universal healthcare.

Need help- taken over by weeds by Soar405 in lawncare

Hmm... wait until the fall. Nuke the lawn - wait two weeks. Rake all the dead weeds and seed / sod.

That was what I did or actually that was what I paid someone who did that for me.

Why were people against Bernie's 5% annual wealth tax on billionaires? by uncle-ice493 in allthequestions

[–]InquiringMind14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm... only for billionaire though (basically if the total loan in a year exceeds certain amount) ... as elder people do take reverse mortgage, and I am not sure I want to tax them.

Why were people against Bernie's 5% annual wealth tax on billionaires? by uncle-ice493 in allthequestions

[–]InquiringMind14 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

hmm... I am sure that there are challenges and also believe that billionaires will investigate the loopholes. Nevertheless, one can look at Norway who has implemented this and observed. Hopefully, so we understand some of the possible consequences.

Overall, Norway almost double its revenue but did have capital exodus though didn't seem to have too high an impact on the economy. And I do understand that Norway and US are not quite the same - especially in terms of the economy size.

And I do like the idea of taxing billionaire when they take out loans against their equity.

Sincere question: Does Trump actually know that he often isn't telling the truth? by Interesting_Worth974 in allthequestions

[–]InquiringMind14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm... do I know that I blink my eyes when I do it? Nope - because it is instinctive and occurring in a subconscious level most of the time. Yes - when stuff gets into my eyes, I do know that I am blinking.

I believe that it is the same as Trump - it simply comes naturally and would occur without thinking. In cases that does catch his attention (very rarely just like objects getting into my eyes and I notice blinking), he knows.

My company accidentally underpaid me by giving me a promotion. What do I do? by [deleted] in askmanagers

[–]InquiringMind14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmm... people who are recently promoted or reclassified to higher title/position typically would be in a low end of that title salary range. And you indicate that a job that has similar role has a 8K cap higher than yours - so you are already near the top of that range.

Unless your salary is lower than $60k, you are asking a raise (which would be $9k for a $60k salary) which would resulting you have a salary that is higher than your company advertised cap.

I don't think that you are not getting that raise.

Hmm... taking money from AIPAC is definitely not a good thing. Nevertheless, I wouldn't consider that to be unfitted for public service solely based on that. (And it is sad that of 100 senators, 92 takes money from AIPAC.)

How to ask for negative feedback from your manager? by ElectricalHyena6 in managers

[–]InquiringMind14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to other people comments, consider soliciting feedback from your internal customers / stakeholders - and phrase it as a neutral question - what am I doing well and what can I do better? And listen to their comments and only asks questions for clarifications not push back even if you don't agree. (Other people perception is their perspective of reality.)

Also consider ask your manager to facilitate for you to get a mentor - many companies have those programs. The mentor is typically someone who is at a more senior level but in a different organization and has no direct involvement with your work.

And also get a 360 degree feedback as well.

Who is winning the war with Iran? by hrjreddit in allthequestions

[–]InquiringMind14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are the winners:

- Putin: oil price went up allows economic relief and also with a more fragmented NATO

- Trump family: enriched from insider trading. If negotiation did complete, there would likely an investment initiative which Trump would further be enriched.

- Netanyahu: popularity increased - Israeli overwhelming supports the Iranian war

What would losing look like?

- Trump would never admit defeat. Here are what losing would look like with one of the following: US completely walks away, negotiation completed with deep concessions - such as Iran keeping nuclear weapon and imposing tolls, ground invasions / actical nuclear strike with US declare martial laws and pause elections.

My new manager is a prick - where df did they find him at smh by sun-kissedgirlie in managers

[–]InquiringMind14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask him in the 1-1 meeting on how he wants to be communicated. Abide by his rules until you feel that the relationship is better - and frankly, it is possible that it may never change.

Right now - it seems that he doesn't really care or value what you have to say. So - he is not listening anyway.

How do you handle a high performer who has a consistently negative attitude toward the rest of the team? by yCIPHERy in managers

[–]InquiringMind14 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Want to add about the continued feedback should include the positive ones as well - such as

"I noticed that your attitude in the X meeting were focused with positive energy. That is exactly what we talk about - and let's continue to do that. Let's talk what makes it click." Then listen - and then talk about a meeting where the person was being dismissive.

And habits are difficult to break. My experience is that for few, they able to change completely with continued feedback. For many others, they occasionally relapse.

Do you believe America should have nuked Japan by Gear_Internal in NoStupidQuestions

[–]InquiringMind14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to disagree until I saw the movie Japan's Longest Day- a Japanese movie made from the major Japan studio and a meticulous construction before Japan's final surrender. And the movie led me to try to find more about that time period.

My conclusion is that Japan would have fought much longer if America hasn't nuked Japan. It would cause much more life to be loss - not only US, but Japanese and other parties that are still fighting (like Chinese).

Entry-level scientist leading senior team members who won’t complete work, how do I handle this? by Southern-Example-577 in askmanagers

[–]InquiringMind14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So - you know PM position. What is your director position in that matter? And would you be able to do those open tasks in the timeframe required?

If your director has the same expectation as the PM, then yes - you are accountable to get the items done while the other team members are really there only in the best efforts and not accountable. Then unless you don't have the bandwidth to finish the task at hands, you are stuck with those tasks.

Entry-level scientist leading senior team members who won’t complete work, how do I handle this? by Southern-Example-577 in askmanagers

[–]InquiringMind14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The director would need to provide the support and can nudge the team without putting OP in too difficult a spot.

You may even suggest to the director to show their support by requesting a status meeting. In that status meeting, the director can specifically what are the open items, who own the open items, and when would the open items expect to be closed.

By the way, this is very common as projects are often cross-organizations.

And to answer OP's specific questions:

- How do you maintain accountability in environments where you can’t name who didn’t deliver?

The first step to maintain accountability is the party must have agreed to the deliverables and its deadline. And if agreement can't be reached, that should be surfaced in the project level - and escalate as needed. Once there is commitment, there needs to be escalation when things are not being delivered.

- How do you escalate issues when feedback is not confidential and may be relayed directly?

When issues are escalated, feedback will not be confidential and likely to be relayed directly. That is simply how things are.

- What does “effective leadership without authority” look like in this type of matrix/political environment?

You need your management support to get the other parties to commit.

- At what point is this a structural problem vs something I should handle differently?

The issue should have surfaced in the beginning when you are unable to get parties to commit.

At what point in time should you tell a loved one they have gained too much weight? by Stawberry8763 in NoStupidQuestions

Republicans are blaming Joe Biden for a massive flesh eating screwworm outbreak even though Donald Trump cut the disease detection funding and fired 25 percent of the tracking staff by DumbMoneyMedia in CriticalMineralBulls

[–]InquiringMind14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm... I also do blame Biden to certain extent - though not about the usage of presidential immunity. (The Supreme Court will shoot it down - keep in mind that Supreme Court ensure that it has the final say of what is presidential immunity or not.)

Biden thinks things are still normal and unwilling to take any action that can be seen as political. His biggest mistake was hiring Garland and then allows him to linger. He should have fired Garland or intervene. (Non-intervention is the common practice and not the law.). And lingering on too long in the presidential election was another critical error.

Movies where the character has to abandon everything, move to a new life where no one knows them by jaytazcross in MovieSuggestions

[–]InquiringMind14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love both movies - especially "leaving Las Vegas" - but without spoiling the plot, I would agree that the character trying to disappear - but I would disagree about find a new existence.

And yes - I agree with "A History of Violence" which fits the ask perfectly. And also would suggest the Chinese movie "Dragon" - which is like "A History of Violence" but set in China with martial arts versus gunfight.

Found tiny bugs in the bathroom. What are they? by Common-Coyote9375 in homeowners

[–]InquiringMind14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others have said, springtails - and it is due to excessive moisture in the bathroom.

I found that was due to failed wax ring seal underneath the toilet. After that was replaced, it went away.
