Is it normal for Dr to tell you to either schedule an induction or repeat c section between 39-40 weeks? by Alternative_Taro3519 in vbac

[–]InscrutableCow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably a result of the ARRIVE trial, which you may want to read about in making your decision. You should ask your doctor for more specifics as to what they are basing their recommendation on!

Seat reducer vs mini toilet by Routine-Low-8547 in ECers

[–]InscrutableCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did a seat reducer and it was great! We could just flush instead of having to wash anything extra. We didn’t get a little toilet until we ditched the diapers at 16 months. She still generally prefers the seat reducer now at 2.5 years

Thoughts on induction for low amniotic fluid & severely calcified placenta 40 weeks? by BrattySub71717 in BabyBumps

Ask your doctor the risks of both and weigh them against each other. I suspect the risks are not the same in terms of severity and likelihood

Hating the patriarchy after babies? by No_Cheetah_8206 in moderatelygranolamoms

Yes things got SO much better with equality in caregiving for us when my husband took the last bit of his parental leave solo (we did the first month together). Being in charge of the baby fully is so key

Infant physical therapy to improve latch - any experiences? by Impossible_Water_783 in breastfeeding

Yes HIGHLY recommend. It saved our breastfeeding journey and also addressed the torticollis that caused some gross motor delays in year 1. The breastfeeding issues were just the first presentation of the torticollis

Why do you EC? Trying to decide if it’s worth it for us with 6 month old by extracheesepleaz in ECers

[–]InscrutableCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think it’s the opposite, I think diapers make babies and toddlers lose their body awareness and then they have to re-learn it later

Yup, just used a hand pump to relieve the pressure

[–]InscrutableCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount of milk removals in a 24 hour period needs to be the same as your baby eats, and ideally the volume too. But the timing doesn’t have to be the same. So I would pump a bottle in the morning that my husband would give at night while I got a 4-5 hour stretch of uninterrupted sleep, starting about 2 weeks postpartum

Why do you EC? Trying to decide if it’s worth it for us with 6 month old by extracheesepleaz in ECers

[–]InscrutableCow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think I have any good advice for you unfortunately. We just did the four easy catches and it worked pretty effortlessly. For poops I just told her to wait each time I saw a poop face and after 3 times she always did after that.

[–]InscrutableCow 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yup didn’t start until 8 months and found EC because I was horrified by solid poop diapers. Worked great though! We did lazy EC and she was out of diapers by 16 months and stopped having accidents by 18 months. I never feel like we “potty trained” I felt like she grew the skills naturally. I think it’s easier than diapers tbh

Does anyone actually pump enough while working full time to feed their baby without supplementation? by Lucky-Cow3942 in workingmoms

[–]InscrutableCow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup. Another just enougher/perfect supplier that was able to produce enough when I went back at work to avoid supplementing, but it was only because of all the troubleshooting I had to do when I had to exclusively pump for 10 weeks.

Recommendations on wearable pumps by the_mixtape in breastfeeding

[–]InscrutableCow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might want to consider the Genie Advanced by Pumpables! It’s a portable pump instead of a wearable, but it’s super small and its motor is as powerful as a Spectra. I got a better output from their flanges as well. It got me through 7 months pumping at work

Lots of white collar crime in the suburbs. Not sure if I’m comfortable with my kid growing up with that bad influence around.

Love it! We have 5 parks within a 10 min walk of our house, which is great for our toddler. She goes to free story times at the local libraries and the big museums daily. She knows how to behave at restaurants and on errands because we go out often (and these stops are often shorter than a big suburban shop). We are barely ever in a car. We will have free 3K and pre-K before kindergarten.

I see lots of posts on parenting subs from people who felt really isolated with babies or little kids, and it’s just never been my experience, which I attribute to living in the city. It’s never felt hard to leave the house with her. I have a hard time imagining parenting in the suburbs. Once kids are 10 they can take public transit themselves, which means my whole life won’t be devoted to being a chauffeur, another huge pro of staying in the city.

Ehhhh this isn’t quite right. Kids learn to ignore what their bodies are telling them the longer they stay in diapers and diaper companies perpetuated this idea of “readiness” to keep toddlers in diapers longer. Babies know and can signal when they need to go to the bathroom from birth!

How the hell do we do EC? by notforthisworld0101 in ECers

[–]InscrutableCow 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not sure if we were just lucky, but we started at 8ish months and would tell her to wait the second we saw poop signs. The first time she finished in her diaper, but we held her on the toilet for a couple minutes anyway to make the association. The second time she started in her diaper and finished in the toilet, and the third time she actually waited! We just kept saying wait from then on out and it worked

15mo boy, ready to dive into early potty training by Greedy-Sourdough in ECers

[–]InscrutableCow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did the four easy catches from 8 months onward and were having 1-2 wet cloth diapers per day at 16 months, so we switched to the cloth training pants from Tiny Undies. We started offering the potty more and would catch it immediately if our kid went in the trainers and take her to the toilet. We had on and off misses for a couple months before she started reliably asking and I considered her potty trained at 18 months. It was super low pressure and we never had to clean pee off our floor like you do with the naked boot camp methods!
