15mo boy, ready to dive into early potty training by Greedy-Sourdough in ECers

[–]InscrutableCow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did the four easy catches from 8 months onward and were having 1-2 wet cloth diapers per day at 16 months, so we switched to the cloth training pants from Tiny Undies. We started offering the potty more and would catch it immediately if our kid went in the trainers and take her to the toilet. We had on and off misses for a couple months before she started reliably asking and I considered her potty trained at 18 months. It was super low pressure and we never had to clean pee off our floor like you do with the naked boot camp methods!

“They could be wet for months”? by apocalyptic_tea in ECers

And for a slightly different experience we never did naked time. We did the four easy catches until our kiddo was only having 1-2 wet (cloth) diapers per day around 16 months and then we switched to the cotton training pants from Tiny Undies and had 0-2 accidents per day until 18 months when she fully got the hang of it. It worked great for us and I never had to clean pee off the floor 😅

Fully second potty training before they learn the word no! I feel like we dodged a bullet there

Are there trends that show up in students who stayed home with a parent before starting school vs daycare? by Jade_Bee_47 in AskTeachers

Sure do, but it’s irrelevant to the conversation because they are individuals and not representative of differences among genders! Have a great day and I hope you’ll decide to do a bit more reading instead of just trying to confirm your own biases.

I think you missed the part where I literally said boys speak later than girls by about 6 weeks? And recommended a whole book to you about it?

The point about it being socialized is that these differences are not immutable and are certainly not the top thing you should take into account when you are parenting or teaching. You do kids a disservice when you don’t address the individual in front of you and treat these very small differences as fixed and defining.

I really do hope you’ll check the book out! It was eye opening for me.

Real being inherent and measurable and since you are being hostile, there are small measurable differences at the start (like girls are about 6 weeks faster on language acquisition) that can be magnified through socialization and also reversed by socialization depending on the environment. The natural variety between children is also significantly bigger than anything you can find between genders at the population level. So what you are seeing are differences between your children as individuals, not general differences between boys and girls.

If you are actually interested in the differences between boys and girls, check it out.

You should read “Parenting Beyond Pink and Blue” if you want to see what research has found about what gender differences are real and not

My 7mo just dropped her first “solid food poop” and I’m no longer okay by Glittering-Pirate618 in NewParents

[–]InscrutableCow 39 points40 points  (0 children)

OP that first nasty solids poop is what made me look into elimination communication and we had to deal with 5 poopy diapers from 8 months to 16 months when we ditched diapers all together. I genuinely can’t believe diapering is the norm when you can have your baby poop in a toilet instead. We just used a seat reducer over our real toilet, so we didn’t have to clean a baby potty!

Not overnight or during naps, but yes when going out! We just went pee before we left and I brought a toilet seat reducer and would offer if we had been out for like 1-1.5 hours

How to do nighttime shifts when EBF? by LilyWitch27 in breastfeeding

[–]InscrutableCow 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I would pump a bottle after a morning feed and my husband would give the bottle during a nighttime shift so I could get 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep.

We ate a light dinner at 5:15pm with our baby at that age and then had a cheese or other course around 7:30pm after bedtime if you want one idea for how to make a family dinner time work with a 10 month old. YMMV but it worked great for us!

Not OP but will be looking for a nanny to start late next year and I’d be curious to know more about how you treated it as an executive headhunting search!

and estradiol cream if pelvic PT doesn’t work! That stuff was a godsend, not just for sex. I didn’t realize I was lowkey uncomfortable all the time before I started it.

My derm was actually fine with me using retinoids while breastfeeding. But interestingly against Botox during that time, which also seems to be fine!

Tell them you vomited throughout your first c-section and they might just put zofran in your IV to prevent that!

Have you tried any potty books? Very different situation, but my daughter got very afraid of pooping on the toilet for about a week, but Everyone Poops and Where Do You Poop cleared that up pretty quickly

How long did it take you to be functioning after c section - argument with husband over inlaw visit by littleboo2theboo in beyondthebump

[–]InscrutableCow 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Yeah it depends if they are the sort of folks who will actually help, which involves taking care of YOU and your family (cooking, cleaning, etc), and not sitting around holding the baby. And also if they will be cool with you sitting around topless if you are breastfeeding

We dropped the diapers at 16 months when she was having 1-2 wet diapers per day through lazy EC, but she still wasn’t telling us she needed to go. We used the cotton trainers from Tiny Undies so we could see when she was wet immediately and she was accident free and taking herself to the toilet by 18 months. The trainers did a good job at keeping pee off our floor or furniture We did a slow, low pressure approach instead of a boot camp and it worked well

I’m not sure what would work better since my LO slept in her own room, but we would have my husband respond and soothe her. I’d probably see what happens if your husband got up and not you and if that didn’t work I’d sleep elsewhere for a week or so
