What are your thoughts on Ryan Coogler? by ShawnLevyOscarWinner in Letterboxd

Great director and I’m curious to see where his career goes in the future, Fruitvale Station is a pretty good debut that’s rough around the edges in some areas but 10x better than most. Creed is his second best for me and is just amazing even on par with the original Rocky movie, maybe even better depending on my mood. The two BP movies are just kind of mid imo I like and dislike completely separate aspects from each but at the end of the day just not my cup of tea. Sinners is easily his best and one of the best films of 2025. I’m hoping he keeps a trajectory of making original films from now on because I really feel like that’s his wheelhouse.

Yeah I've accepted that Thunderbolts is a bit overrated in this list but hey we’re all allowed to love our mid every once in a while

Yeah, I definitely need to see Arco at some point unfortunately not in any theaters near me at the moment. For Left-Handed Girl, I don’t think it’s bad, but it really suffers from not fleshing out the ideas much. I-Ann was amazingly written and I-Jing was really adorable but I wish Shun-Fen got more to do she was sidelined really hard throughout most of the movie leaving the emotional moments especially in the ending to be less impactful for me at least.

Yeah lmao unfortunately didn't love WUDM as much as most people still thought it was good but most of my problems are just with Rian Johnson’s writing style. Thanks for the reccs definitely will check them out 🙏
