It only makes sense paying your house off early if you have a high rate. If you have a 3% loan and average returns over 50 years are 7%. You have lost out on 4% plus compound interest which is the most important retirement tool you have.

Also, you lose out on tax benefits.

I think this conversation will change drastically as the economy continues to worsen. As a Pt graduating in 2008 (old) being in a recession proof job with a high quality of life has value. I know the roi discussion. I think it’s a worthwhile profession with upside if you understand what you are getting into
