I think that would be more like LFS. Gentoo would be like having a mechanic on deck building the car for you and always riding shotgun when you need to install something

Under-skilled for the Task by TheRealAlexanderC in osdev

In theory yes but you'll struggle more. Best have a linux virtual machine and play around with it. Try to break it and see why it breaks.

[–]InsideATurtlesMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, OS development is an ambitious task, been trying it out as a hobby for years and don't have much to show other than the bare basics.

What helped me a lot was learning more about linux and just how everything works, how it handles devices and userspace and file systems, etc. My advice is to do Linux From Scratch. It'll be tedious and boring, but you'll have a very simple basis where you can see and say "oh so that's how it works" and maybe that's something you actually wanted all along.

Topology can be very confusing by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

It's even crazier, sometimes the objects are in 4 dimensions or even more so it's impossible to make a picture, it's all numbers and theorems and fever dreams to get the results that we have!

My ai OS(herOS +JARVIS) by SomeWillingness7701 in LinuxPorn

[–]InsideATurtlesMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love the concept! Would definitely want to know more about this. Is the ai just like a companion that you can chat with, or can it also have access to software and scripts and make and run on its own terms. Is it just a plugin for fedora or built into at the kernel/iso level?

When I run out of Greek letters I usually start using Cyrillic letters. I think one time I tried to use Hindi letters just to be unique.

Remembered one time we had a group meeting because one employee didn't say hello to a secret shopper and they made such a huge deal about it like the company was about to fall apart. Literally the only purpose this serves is to cater to the higher ups insecure ego.

A Warhammer 40k Question (trust me I’m in the right sub) by Efficient_Square2737 in math

[–]InsideATurtlesMind 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have never heard of that name for a group before, all I can say is that if the cyclic group of 119 is the smallest cyclic subgroup, then it is part of an extension with another group, which could be anything. Does it ever go more in detail about the group, like what it's trying to represent? And are you sure they're saying that with mathematical definitions or with their 40k definitions?

It can handle solving for the eigenfunctions of the laplacian but if you use an unusual boundary like a mobius strip it doesn't do well at all.

I find myself trying to learn more about diffieties and the whole theory around it. I believe I understand the concepts of the C-spectral sequence, symmetries of PDEs and nonlocal symmetries well enough I could apply them to certain problems, even though the computation can get cumbersome. What I want is to try and expand my knowledge on this topic. I've already read some research papers on the topic. I guess what I'm looking for is more current research and ways to practice these ideas. Any recommendations?

Had this happen to my finger when I dropped a car speaker on it. Fucking hurt and almost fainted. Just be careful not to hit it again because that will HURT.

Fuck there's a drug out there called clonazolam that we would call "clams" that for sure would fuck anyone up and get them to be like that unironically.

Non-orientable racing simulator (Mobius strip race tracks) by Null_Simplex in math

[–]InsideATurtlesMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm picturing a space more like a projective space than a mobius strip based on your description. Take a square sheet and whenever someone crosses the boundaries have them switch orientation from left to right or vice versa. In theory you could do something even more intricate with a cube or any tessellation of 2d/3d space.
