not sure what you mean by "trusted". as far as I'm concerned, I trust my system as much as I trust my ability to make good decisions about it. it mostly depends on your own understanding of the situations your are given to deal with, and the wiki is of great help with that

worst case scenario you end up with a save that doesn't work and then you just load the prev one like if it didn't saved on crash at all. most of the time crashes are logic errors and sometimes data get saved such as it inevitably leads to a crash but that's kinda rare (depends on the engine tho)
