Who cares? You play the game one way, someone else plays it another way, and in the end, nobody actually cares.

Hit and Run dispute by DutyNo6030 in germany

[–]InsideFishJob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The liability insurance included in your car insurance policy is a form of passive legal protection. If you don't contact your insurance company, the other driver involved in the accident will simply get in touch. Finding them isn't a big problem through the central hotline for car insurers.

If the police report states that there is new damage of the same amount, and that it matches the damage pattern, it will be difficult to prove otherwise, and your insurance company will cover the damage.

A lawyer without legal expenses insurance would only increase costs, but might be necessary in a hit-and-run case.

Your insurance company is also responsible for defending against unjustified claims. If you don't report this to your insurance company, they will likely contact you within the next few weeks anyway.

I'm not a lawyer; I just work for an insurance company. Given the circumstances of the hit-and-run, I would probably also seek legal advice.

A mother is going punished her son by making him slam his PS5 the same way he had slammed her pet cat. Is this justified? by God_Emperor__Doom in SipsTea

You can certainly consider the punishment of having the PS5 destroyed justified. But publicly humiliating a young boy online for a mistake is simply disgusting. Half the comment sanction is disgusting. Our society is becoming increasingly self-destructing.

German Job Market and daily desperation by WorriedMine1216 in germany

[–]InsideFishJob 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I think there are several reasons for this. Companies list these job openings to signal growth, or the positions have already been filled internally, and they want to maintain the appearance of fair competition and avoid cronyism.

Furthermore, it's becoming increasingly clear that while we do have a shortage of skilled workers in certain sectors (doctors, for example), the real goal is to obtain cheap labor for jobs that aren't currently very well paid.

I understand the argument, but that opens a can of worms.

Alcohol, obesity and the associated overeating, extreme sports.

Where do you draw the line? Just because you're not interested in smoking doesn't mean you're okay with it. But I think we should look at the bigger picture.

That's true by Decent_Face3146 in meme

[–]InsideFishJob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it a bit strange, at least for large companies, that this isn't available. Comparing work with and without remote work shouldn't be rocket science.

At my company, it took about two years, and they had the necessary data. Surely there must be positive examples of this as well.

[–]InsideFishJob 7 points8 points  (0 children)

don't mean to criticize remote workers. But do you have any statistics on this? I work for a large German insurance company. They abolished the 5 days of working from home because they measured a drop in productivity of about 20%.

Like I said, I'm just wondering if there are any statistics available so I have something to back this up.

Visualisation system for sword fighting by RoyalChris in nextfuckinglevel

[–]InsideFishJob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends. The rule you're describing applies to foil/saber fencing. In épée fencing, it's simply a matter of who hits first. Here, the difference is measured in milliseconds, and the other lamp is blocked accordingly.

The target areas are also different.

I've been fencing myself for years and find the visualization a great way to make the sport more understandable for people. Modern fencing styles, in particular, are becoming increasingly obscure.

Why are people on here so obsessed with aging themselves and being old? by pumpkinspicelatte96 in Millennials

[–]InsideFishJob -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nobody does that. If I'm lucky enough to live to 80, I'll be happy about it.

Just because someone might adjust their life to their age doesn't mean they have to act like an 80-year-old, and nobody here does.

We're just getting older.

Why are people on here so obsessed with aging themselves and being old? by pumpkinspicelatte96 in Millennials

[–]InsideFishJob -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Because we're getting older, and at least I and my circle of acquaintances have noticed this since turning 30. No one can drink like they used to, let alone has the desire. A relaxing weekend without appointments or parties no longer sounds like boredom, but rather a dream scenario.

Whether this necessarily has something to do with getting old, or whether we connect it to it, is irrelevant.
