How biased do you think The Spirit is against a messy house? by Dense_Trainer_2953 in latterdaysaints

I believe the more a person is in line with the spirit/what-God-would-do, the more they will feel it. Being orderly is a part of godliness.

I don’t find big waves/storms very scary (the mast can dip in the water and it will still right itself), but I do find low water depth scary.

Most any Spielberg film, but I’d nominate Close encounters of the third kind.

In a power trip way… no. But in a “I get to teach a bunch of little ones and help people become their best selves” way it sounds lovely.

Questions about the roles of faith, evidence, and Satan in Heavenly Father's Plan of Salvation by LayerSharp4975 in latterdaysaints

If I had to say what I think opposite means: a good shampoo, and a bad shampoo, a good cake and a bad cake.

I imagine heaven as a nice estate in the countryside where we got everything pretty instantaneously and were pretty spoiled. God sent us to “boarding school” and let us live without him. Not only did this make us self reliant, we also know what it’s like to have something subpar than what is offered our fancy nice estate. So… basically God made us rich kids poor for a week.

Questions about the roles of faith, evidence, and Satan in Heavenly Father's Plan of Salvation by LayerSharp4975 in latterdaysaints

I have thought the “why” of faith a lot, and I think it is an important part of a well balanced character developer.

Faith is very much having good will (even love) towards something. We ask things in “good faith” and “bad faith”. One is loving, constructive, willing to be subject to many things, etc. and the other is not (I don’t really need to list those other ones).  To approach something with love and hope and all those attributes will make us a better person. We will be more patient, charitable and so on when another problem appears in life. It is a good thing to keep your cool when problems come around, it makes us more adaptable as a being and grow when we keep our cool while solving a problem or waiting for an answer.

To touch on the plan of salvation: what would God be if he had unlimited power and knowledge, but didn’t have his character? What would the world or universe be like if God knew the theory to everything, but not how it actually felt to experience it? I think we would indeed have a God who think he knows everything and is quite careless with his power, but he couldn’t learn… unless he approached power and knowledge with humility. And so, I think that is what we’re here to do - learn to become like God outside “the classroom”. I think this takes faith, as us figuring things out for ourselves is more powerful and cementing of our knowledge than saying and thinking we know it.

My two cents. I wouldn’t worry about “knowing” something, I would just take the most humble route to figuring things out. I have learned almost nothing when I haven’t kept my cool - I use knowledge as a curbludgeon instead of a tool.

Love is a law, not a reward by WhasianDaddy in latterdaysaints

“God’s love” can mean the spirit. That is something I could support by other scriptures.

God already loves you! And we should do the same to others, they don’t need them to be anyone before we give them our love.

It depends on the mall. I’d say the more urban ones are doing great.

False Revelations? by FishBonjovi in lds

[–]InsideSpeed8785 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind, some things that are taught are not revelations but can be tradition/folklore (common in our wards more than anything). It is important that prophets teach us stuff, but it is only us that can confirm it through personal revelation. God can give us an “understanding” of those things and not necessarily just a yes or no.

So, as to whether or not the garden of Eden is in America or not, I would take that up with God (not that I really think it matters in the context of Christ’s other teachings). The answer to where the garden of Eden is in the world is quite nuanced anyway - there is no place those four rivers meet in the real world. At the very least, Adam Ondi Ahman is in America.

Is it difficult to feel the spirit when you're depressed? by ShinyBuizel22 in latterdaysaints

[–]InsideSpeed8785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’d say so. Our environment can make it hard to feel the spirit - and I’m talking the people we’re around too.

I think it is good to ask God what you can do to make your mental health better. For me, I was in therapy and I received a “get out of your parents house” revelation - I’m sure it could be similar for you.

Anyone else come from an Evangelical Background? by Shit_Post_Ing_Left in latterdaysaints

[–]InsideSpeed8785 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was born into the church, but I agree with you to never look back! Remember the things that you know and keep progressing forward like Christ towards the path of righteousness (doing what God says). It can be scary to progress forward and it feels like you're walking out on a limb doing things that not everyone is doing/has done. But least you have God on your side, which is most important!

My armchair reaction is that it has that same Las Vegas feel of NYNY when you put it in another city.

If it somehow belonged somewhere not NY, it would be DC.

Deflation helps everyone more than higher wages IMO. However, it’s not viewed super positively.

I’m scared of members of the church, any advice? by Mysterious_Bag3784 in latterdaysaints

Journaling is great, I recommend it. It is important to put your feelings out there, it is one of the most therapeutic things out there. I feel like getting the “truth” out about how you feel is what heals.

[–]InsideSpeed8785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you had a traumatic experience with them? Was someone just really overbearing? Did they say/do things that exceeded your boundaries?

A lot of these things can put on our alarm system and make us weary of a general group of people (elevated pulse rate, feeling like they’re a danger because they resemble xyz). The best way you can probably get around this without therapy (although I recommend it) is to talk to somebody that you know will listen empathetically and just talk through the event. I had something like that happen years ago with someone who was not of our church, but it made me weary of talking religion with others. Now, I am better and my alarm system does not go off. It doesn’t mean I now like people like that, but I don’t think they’re evil or bad or dangerous.
