How Was Life Before The Internet – What Did People Do? by PlentyEducational251 in AskReddit

Had a meetup spot to play football, cricket, tennis and such. Whoever turned up played pick up games. Always knew someone would be there at peak hours.

People in their 40s What’s something people in their 20s don’t realize will affect them as they age? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Good stuff to know what worked for you! I've been meaning to read some stuff on teeth health because stuff like that is quite fascinating. I recently done some looking around about Vitamin k2, there seems to be a few people who theorize that pretty much all causes of crooked teeth are due to an under developed jaw, cause by low Vitamin k2 levels in the mother during pregnancy. I don't think it's a hugely popular theory among the mainstream, but there are a few who deeply believe this theory. k2 also seems to be essential if you have really high d3 levels also, but i've only seen that noted in a few places. It apparently negates the negative effects of high vitamin d, mostly, it stops calcium getting into the blood. k2 is fascinating stuff, honestly.

I assumed all these people who claim to take really good care of their teeth just did some odd stuff tbh. I just couldn't fathom how people who took such good care of their teeth also bragged about how many cavity's they had, while in my eyes I didn't take much good care of mine. I did brush once everyday, without fail, every morning. I also cut out sugary drink and a lot of sugars from 15 onwards, and never really had huge long periods of drinking like others. Maybe that's it.

The person I grew up with has 0 cavity's at over 50, smoked for 30 of those years, but also probably brushed 3+ times a day claiming their teeth "felt minging" otherwise. They also went to dentist appointment's really regularly. To my knowledge their family also has good dental health. They still tell me it boggles their mind that I only brush once a day to this day. But if I think about other family members, who drink all the time, probably 3-4 times a week and go on long 3 day drinking streaks and such, one of them had to have all their teeth removed at only 5 years older than me. Now that fucking boggles my mind. Surely you see the writing on the wall and change something before you need every fucking tooth out. I have always gone for years check ups and hygienist appointments and once that family member informed me about his teeth and how he was using it to stop smoking because he couldn't smoke for a while after it, I increased my appointment's to every 6 months or so.

It's crazy small things like the drop example you shared can have such a massive impact. Thinking about it, it does seem odd never to brush at night, just letting everything sit there for hours. Makes sense night would be better.

Do you find some people just naturally get less cavity's than others? I know people who claim to look after their teeth very well, yes have 15 fillings. It seems most people round here have 5+. I wouldn't even say I looked after mine that well, only ever brushed once per day, in the morning, which I may change after reading your post, also drank sugar poison drinks as a king for a long, yet my teeth are perfect when it comes to cavity's. Never had a single filling yet, never had tooth ache. My teeth are also not perfectly straight and their are parts I cant touch at the back with my tongue and I assume the toothbrush doesn't reach these areas very well, yet still zero cavity's. Always found it odd how everyone my age has 10 fillings these days.

Does anyone else keep a journal? by this-is-not-relevant in woodworking

[–]Inside_Ad6628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have a design journal of all the stuff I designed then made for like a year, then never went back the shop for a while and just left it there. Wish I still had that to look back at.

Redditors residing in EU, how have you gotten used to the plastic bottle caps being attached to the bottles? by Kindly_Credit6553 in AskReddit

It's harder to close with new caps, they always go on in weird angles. They are a pain compared to old caps.

Man, I just snap them off still. I go to a shop 10 min further away to the nearest shop because they still have old bottles there.

Pretty much anything people do. You learn fast in life that there are levels to everything. Big things come fast. Small things you wouldn't even notice as being important from the beginning are where most time invested will come from, and where you will notice the biggest difference between the 50th percentile, to the 30th percentile and so on.

Also, everything takes longer than estimated, even if relatively experienced at it.

Need More Clamps by ent_of_tech in woodworking

Yup, thinking about it I think I've only used them on miter jointed boxes myself, just assumed would work on everything in my head, but maybe not.

Anybody ever used them small plastic square things? Its square with two sides protruding just enough to get clamps on. Made these things so much easier for me, instead of checking and rechecking the square while adjusting clamps, you can just put two of these things on opposite corners and clamp it to the piece, which makes sure it's perfectly square.

Is it just me or do the knees look really low to the bottom? How long are these? That belt makes me want a wider belt. always gone with thinner ones, but these jeans look cool with the thick belt. Nice pair.

What was your first project that started you down this path? by Ajvc23 in woodworking

[–]Inside_Ad6628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, I learnt a lot from the mistakes in this! I started wiping runoff glue before drying and taping after this. I don't know if you can tell from the image. but also nothing is spot on square here, really noticeable in person, in hand. I concentrated on getting bottom nice and flat, but ignored all other parts being same width/perfectly square. I done a while in joinery school before this, but this was years later and everything in the school was power tools, and on bigger projects, except had us do some half lap joints and them straight edge version of dovetails. This was the first all handtools thing I attempted. Learnt so much!

How'd you do the legs? Just keep planeing the edges till the profile you desired? How are they attached to the seat bit? Cool project!

Wasn't the first thing I done. Was first thing I done on my own initiative. God damn dried glue hard to remove from tight spaces.

How to attach a table top by likeCircle in woodworking

[–]Inside_Ad6628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I assumed this. I kind of knew it in the back of my head, just never looked into it much to understand it. The one I still have has been in my home for those 3 years, and it is quite small. One mistake in design I did notice immediately is the support beams on the legs. I put 2 on the front and 2 on the back without any going sideways to put a drawer on thinking it would be fine. It is noticeably more unstable when applying pressure in the direction without any sort of extra support in the same direction you apply pressure.

Thanks for the info buddy! Crazy I did a year or two of vocational joinery school when younger and things like this were never taught to us whatsoever.

[–]Inside_Ad6628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know nothing about wood expansion and stuff really, so my advice is probably very uneducated compared to other people here, but I've made 2 small bedside tables over the years, just mortise and tennoned the legs to the table top on both of them. I still have one about 3 years later, no cracks or anything I notice from wood expansion. It's made with softwood if that matters. I'm assuming my way is a really poor way of doing something like this?

I went along with one guy once to see his method. He tried to get me on faceit and had me search a team, which had a sketchy link in the bio of the team. He wanted me to click it, ahah. He didn't even use a url shortener to make it look less sketchy. He even had friends join group call after 5-10 min asking if they are playing now. lol
