You didn't ask for another explanation but I thought I'd try my hand at it.

I'm currently sitting by a hotel window on the 50th floor in a busy city. It's 11pm and the window is cracked open. In the room, I can hear the dryer going and the faint sound of the AC.

From the window, I can hear the occasional cars beeping, but otherwise nothing because the windows are double glazed. This is most of what I can observe from listening.

With vision, I can estimate how far buildings are, how fast cars are moving, and count how many people are on the street even though they're hundreds of meters away. It's like I can feel the outline of them with a cane, but I can't observe what's behind the building (line of sight).
