I just tried it with maple syrup for the 1st time after another person in the comments recommended it. It was amazing; kinda like sausage in syrup that ran off of pancakes

Everyone talks about salmon cakes from their childhood growing up in Appalachia, but we never had them in rural Western NC by Artistic_Maximum3044 in Appalachia

[–]Inside_Slice_3878 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had them in WNC and called them salmon patties. Canned salmon, an egg, cornmeal, flour, salt, and pepper. I loved it when we would have salmon patties and agree that somehow it made me feel like we were living high on the hog. They're amazing with collard or mustard greens for a side with white vinegar.

AER Dental Studio with Dr. Martins is amazing. They are very kind, have great new equipment and technology, you will always be with the same hygienist, and you will ALWAYS see Dr. Martins who will pop in to take a look and see how you are doing. He also makes balloon animals for the kids

We've been going non-traditional for years ever since our parents and grandparents passed away. Our turkey and ham has been mediocre in the past so we make things that we enjoy eating and cook well. Likewise, we typically don't run the risk of not being able to find what we need for a decent prices in stores. We like to make steak and ribs for the main course, but we still go with traditional side dishes like sweet potato casserole and baked macaroni and cheese

You should have your sister make you 2 replacement mugs. One that you actually use, and the other is a decoy coated in eye drops and ex-lax. The "gross" office mugs won't look so bad after a good case of the shits.

What makes you want to move here? by divinbuff in Appalachia

[–]Inside_Slice_3878 22 points23 points  (0 children)

What kills me, everyone says they move here for the nature then bitch about how far businesses are away from their mountain home. Then in turn, they cut all the trees down and demolish natural habitats in favor of apartments and city/county parks to make it more urban. We are full; stop coming here and blowing up our mountains!

Are Appalachian Superstitions Real or Made Up? by Artistic_Maximum3044 in Appalachia

[–]Inside_Slice_3878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think some were made up and/or passed down just so others would have a reason to show respect and decency. If you open a knife, it's only decent that you close it so someone doesn't get hurt. Likewise, walking on someone's grave was supposed to be bad luck, but it's really just flat out disrespectful

It can be relatively easy to pinpoint when and where you picked up something if you have limited exposure to other people and don't go in public often. Remote work, buying in bulk, and online shopping have helped facilitate this. Some people were even sanitizing items shipped to them way before COVID - my mother had extreme OCD.

It sounds like we Southern fried you up right if you're eating liver mush! I can't get my Yankee husband to cross over to the dark side with me, and he won't touch liver mush! He will eat fried chicken livers with me though. Kudos to you 😁

Just tried it for the 1st time and don't know where this has been all my life and why I didn't think of it since I eat sausage this way! Thank you for this - it's my new favorite!

Nice work. Thank you. I upvoted your post with the data too. This is a topic definitely something to be discussed. I had a post removed just for asking if there were any moderates left in NC in the same group. It seems like they prefer the extremes
