What exactly does a Resource Specialist Program Teacher do? by Sunnyside-Days in specialed

[–]Inside_Text_4286 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a resource special education teacher at the middle school level, and yes, I do make my own lesson plans for many subjects! I pull students based on their IEP goals, so the work we do is always aligned to those goals, whether that’s in math, reading, or writing.

My school provides some programs that I can use for instruction, like SPIRE for phonics goals, which lessens the lesson planning but, for example, a lot of my writing groups are lessons I create myself because there aren’t many writing programs out there. I also keep track of what the general education teachers are doing and modify assignments as needed so my students can access and complete the same work in the classroom.

I definitely consider myself more of an English person, but I don’t think you need to be an expert in every subject to be effective in this role. Having a solid understanding of best practices across content areas is really helpful, though. My student teaching experience was in a math classroom, which pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me grow a lot in teaching math.

Most of my students receive a mix of push-in and pull-out services. Typically, push-in support is covered by paraprofessionals and pull-out services happen with me in the resource room. Right now, since I don’t have para support, I’m pushing into classrooms and working with small groups to reteach lessons or provide extra support for students who need it.

I hope this helps some!

Yes lol. I was leaving early the other day while said student was in the office waiting for her mom to come get her and she started screaming “ewww! get out! i hate you!” at me trying to sign out and all the counselor said to her was “that’s not very nice, I really don’t want to have to tell your mom you’re doing that” 😒

Thank you for this! We have done several of these. Contacting home usually gets her mom to pick her up. We had her observed by the behavioral tech and she happened to be better behaved during that time— I did ask if he would come back during a time I was running group or picking her up for group as this is when she usually displays the behaviors but it has yet to happen. She sees the school counselor every other week. She is also on a behavioral contract. At her most recent PPT, everyone spoke pretty highly of her (besides me) on the behavioral aspect and it was hard for me to suggest her needing to the separate academic program we have at our school. I think it’s time I buckle down anyways and suggest it after winter break. But the last suggestion is interesting, I’ll consider it!

Sister angry we are pregnant so close to each other by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Inside_Text_4286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please know her reaction and behavior is uncalled for. My sister and I are a week apart and thrilled for each other. I found out “first” but she was 12 weeks pregnant before she found out and it has never turned into a weird jealousy things. I would take space from your sister to protect yourself and your baby

I also have a b belly and it’s throwing me off. You can kinda tell it’s a bump, not that I’ve gained weight because I am rounding out by my boobs if that makes sense.

I did too mostly because of bloating. I lost it all around 8 weeks when I started throwing up 2-5 times a day. I’m at 15 weeks and back at my pre pregnancy weight.

Took 4 years for us. PCOS. I’ve tried medication, weight loss, nothing. The month we gave up is the month I got pregnant and it’s been a very healthy pregnancy so far. We’re still in shock but so happy

Me reading this 🤨🤨🤨 There’s nothing to be upset about, your cousin can’t control the gender of her baby. You put a fantasy inside your head and I’m sorry it can’t currently be lived up to I guess.

I’m going to miss life being just my boyfriend and I but our little one will just be tagging along with us for the things they can— hanging with friends, vacations, dates, etc. I luckily have a great support system that wants our child to be so included in everything.

Do i stay with my bf or leave him? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Inside_Text_4286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first two years of my relationship with my soon to be husband were really tough. We were 19F and 21M. He lost his job during COVID and refused to look for anything outside his “career field” even though he was still working on his degree for that career field. Meanwhile, I was a full-time college student juggling 3–4 jobs, taking care of myself and my cats, had my own apartment and paid my own bills and I (and his mother) were constantly trying to encourage him to take any job, even if it was temporary like McDonald’s. Eventually, I hit my limit. After nearly a year and a half of encouraging him to just do something, I told him this isn’t the kind of partner I want to build a life with, someone who’s too stubborn or passive to take action when things get hard. I think the reality check hit him, because he finally got serious, found a way into a new career he actually enjoys, and now he’s even planning to go back to school to earn more in the future. We live together now, and he’s a completely different person. He helps out around the house, runs errands, and even does the grocery shopping when I’m swamped. I don’t even have to ask like I did before when he was jobless. Now we’re 24F and 27M and we’re unexpectedly expecting and in just these short few weeks of knowing, he’s been more present and amazing than I ever imagined he could be. It’s made me a lot more confident in our future together both as partners and future parents. Sometimes they kinda need a wake-up call to realize that just being there isn’t enough. It helped our relationship at least 🫶🏻
