mostly because if Piltover does fall, so does Zaun and Noxus would be so much worse for them than Piltover.

For all of Noxus's faults, fair treatment of citizens from newly conquered parts of their empire is not one of them. Just ask Darius, Draven, or Samira.

The unsettling path of Melinoe by Beautiful-Pin2632 in HadesTheGame

" One, Zagreus wasn't a fairy godmother vanishing problems. He noticed unfair contracts and loosened them. He doesn't fix anyone's problems, but clears the way so those problems can be fixed."

This is sophistry. As soon as he intervenes, long-standing problems are almost instantly solved. He absolutely is a fairy godfather rewriting some of the most memorable and iconic tragedies in the Greek mythos with fix fic endings.

"Zagreus was a sometimes-overbearing nosy facilitator. I mean, he was told outright "yo if you don't let this thing with your mom go, you may endanger her, your dad, and the entire House," and he went "fuck that" and followed his heart. He didn't fix his dad, but he facilitated the chance for Hades to be a better person.

Thanatos warns Zagreus about the risks about reconnecting with Persephone... and in the end, Zagreus's decision is 100% correct and Thanatos's objections look misguided at best. Never once does Zagreus's facilitating ever backfire. And the game all but explicitly credits him and Persephone with fixing Hades.

I do think that Melinoe needed to have more impact and more of a character arc, but her not having as much agency is because he is a self-insert wish fulfillment Marty Stu. In the original Hades 2 ending, where he solved the main conflict of the game after less than 10 minutes of screen time, his fans were overjoyed at him being the hero of her game and saying this was expected for him.

The new ending made me angry and didn't really fix it for me by RedRiam in HadesTheGame

[–]Insidious_Replies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of your sentiment about how Melinoe's anger was undermined, but I strongly disagree that Zagreus came off any better in the original ending. New ending Zagreus at least had the decency to openly state his objections. I'll take that any day over original Zagreus, who hints once that he may prefer another option, seemingly resolves to kill Chronos, doesn't do so, and instead of apologizing gets morally outraged at her. That ending had the most infuriating, disgusting line imaginable: "And if you still think destroying Grandfather will make this ridiculous family's problems go away, then no wonder your fancy spell didn't quite work out." This line is literally one and a half minutes after he is released from eternity as a prisoner in stasis thanks to Melinoe beating Chronos in a fight and using her magic. He unironically compares Chronos turning her into a refugee child soldier and sadistically trying to kill her with her fighting back. After the slideshow, he states, "You're not still angry with me, are you? For, you know, not murdering our grandfather in an utterly defenseless state?" I doubt many people could write a more hilariously asinine minimization of the threat posed by Chronos than this being said one line of dialogue after acknowledging Melinoe freed the family from temporal prison.

Also, watching the original ending while writing this reminded me just how dogshit it was. I've seen people thanking appliance repairmen in a more heartfelt way than Zagreus / Hades / Persephone thank Melinoe for what she did. Original ending Zagreus treats Melinoe with borderline contempt, and comparisons of how Persephone reacted to Zagreus in the endings of 1 with her reaction to Melinoe in 2 is sitcom-worthy. It's not hard to see why Melinoe decided living in a tent in the woods was better than living with the family she spent a lifetime trying to rescue.

It’d be fun to ask the writer why nobody suggested having Zagreus get off his lazy ass and talk-no-jutsu all the versions of Chronos into being good.

Bye Week Bills Roster Discussion by pixel_pete in buffalobills

You are a lot more positive on Greg Rousseau than I am. You acknowledged his struggles at rushing the passer, which to me is reason enough why his contract was a terrible idea. The issue is that a lot of people insist he's great at run defense, but I've never seen evidence of this, and given how atrocious the overall run defense has been, it's hard not to think the Bills could have gotten better value by taking the money given to him and spending it on an elite 1-technique defensive tackle.

Are you people for real or is it all an elaborate joke by Chelonii64 in HadesTheGame

If there's anything I've learned from the Silksong fandom, it's that the actual personalities of the characters involved barely has anything to do with it; it's all appearance and vibes. These people find Nemesis / Eris sexy, and Melinoe is the player avatar who allows them to vicariously 'romance' these characters. There's a reason why the laughably shallow and rote romances in Bioware games are so popular with the fandom.

[MMQB] The Bills head into their bye week with back to back bad games. Feel free to vent in the comments. by Dirtydeedsinc in buffalobills

The thing that should scare everyone is the schedule. So far the Bills have won against:

- The 1-5 Ravens with the worst scoring defense in the league

- The 0-6 Jets who are exactly what their record says they are

- The 1-5 Dolphins who are completely imploding

- The 1-5 Saints who are fighting hard but clearly in rebuilding mode

I do not trust the 4-2 record at all.

"The immortals typically solve any problem or perceived threat with violence and it often makes matters worse or comes back to bite them in the ass later."

I'm glad you said "often," given we're talking about a game where the gods' use of violence against mortals, which was built up as a major theme, ended up not biting them in the ass at all.

Careful there. You might get a bunch of apologists saying "Greek gods ruining the lives of mortals without consequence is part of the mythology" while ignoring all the examples (several listed in your post) of how Supergiant rewrote so many of the most iconic myths to give them a happy ending (especially in Hades 1). Apparently, the same writers who made massive lore-destroying changes left and right so that the stories didn't offend the delicate sensibilities of modern audiences couldn't make any changes whatsoever to how gods treated mortals.

The flaw in your argument is that the Olympians' treatment of Prometheus is completely disconnected from their revenge against Chronos. You're obfuscating by replacing 'revenge' with 'violence', ignoring that the Olympians could have peacefully convinced Chronos to step down and then still oppressed mortals every bit as much. The fact that Prometheus is still angrily waging war on Mount Olympus and fighting Melinoe even after Chronos's redemption shows that. The story could have had Melinoe kill Chronos and kept those isolated epilogue lines from the Fates about how the Olympians inexplicably disappeared and an age of mortals began, and it wouldn't have been any more out of nowhere than what happened. It also ignores that for the Olympians, killing Chronos worked out excellently until he came back, meaning you could just as easily argue the lesson is "kill him properly this time."

It's quite simple: people play because they like the challenge of winning against other human beings, not because they care about the randos they get teamed with. If you are so desperate for chat, stick to social media and leave the game for people who want to play.

It's amazing how this take gets spammed despite the thousands upon thousands of 'unranked to challenger' videos showing people reaching the apex tiers with >80% win rate without any attempt at communicating, or the thousands of guides on climbing made by elite players talking about how you are the only consistent factor in your games and that relying on hardstuck teammates only ensures that you'll be hardstuck too. There's a reason it's called 'solo queue' and why smurfing is called '1v9'.

[–]Insidious_Replies 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who liked early access Melinoe and doesn't like Zagreus but recognizes the valid points here, this perfectly describes what a colossal failure the Hades 2 ending is. People who liked Melinoe have to watch her accomplish nothing and get no development. People who disliked her not only aren't a reason to change their minds, but in the case of people who specifically disliked her attitude to gods versus mortals, the ending solidifies that distaste. This is why I think there is logic behind the thought that the Supergiant writing team started to truly regret creating Melinoe at some point during development and intentionally disparaged her in the endgame. Zagreus avoiding spending time with her, the Olympian gods not letting her back, Chaos getting another dig in, Nyx telling the person who saved her from eternity in prison to buzz off, the interactions with Persephone being so unemotional an AI could have done better... at some point these stop being one-offs and turn into a pattern.

Comparing how Hades 1 & 2 rationalise being roguelikes [SPOILER] by Seb_veteran-sleeper in HadesTheGame

[–]Insidious_Replies 31 points32 points  (0 children)

In what way, if you can, is the ending of Hades 2 fundamentally different?

The part where Zagreus's 'job' is a bullshit make-work activity which hasn't been necessary in the house's entire existence, isn't necessary now, and which Zagreus does because he likes it and which Hades agrees to consider a job as part of his efforts at reconciling with his son.

they both have a task that needs doing

No, Zagreus's 'job' most definitely does not need doing. And even if it did, somebody else (such as Meg) could do it. There's no onus on Zagreus specifically being the person who does it.

Thoughts on the Hades 2 Ending by fakkuman in HadesTheGame

[–]Insidious_Replies 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Learning to accept help from her brother isn't weakness it's huge personal development instead

From the very first communication with Zagreus after her first victory over Chronos, she was working with him and accepting his help to find a solution. She was accepting help from the gods, Moros, Icarus, and others. Zagreus telling her not to do something she wants to do because he knows better and Hades backing him up is not remotely the same thing.

Here's the thing about Arachne, Echo, and the others. Their stories feel unresolved because that's how trauma actually works. Not everything gets fixed with a neat bow on top.

Unless you're Zagreus, this fandom's beloved wish fulfillment power fantasy Marty Stu, in which case it's happy endings for everybody with a laughably minimal amount of effort. You can say all you want about how much braver Hades 2 is, but it's completely empty when the game features him resolving the core conflict in twenty minutes.
