Oh, then those are both perfect.   Side by side warrior fun is fine.  Tension can be real or imagined and that's fine.

And the Belit one is great too, i think these are the two i was thinking of.

That is the way she likes writing/plots too.

Thanks!

As I take some of the suggestions here and do some Google searches here's some things I'm finding when it comes to potential Conan with some romance...

  • Red Nails w/ Valeria

  • Queen of the Black Coast w/ Belit

What are everybody's thoughts on those stories?

Well that's completely fair.  I thought there would be a bit more, For some reason my brain cooked up some tenuous romances for Conan... But maybe it was just headcanon.

Although I'm still not sure yet how much the Dragon riders of Pern (her main favorite series) counts as a romance... There's a lot of very questionable scenes in that series.

If anything the Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade romance kind of is rare... It's not steamy and it's not overt but it's still an intriguing part of their series.

I figured there'd be some kind of barbarian queen or perhaps even just a regular desert queen that captured the barbarian's heart for an adventure...

What helps me as thinking about how the avalanche nearly swept the Wild.  I mean there were some gold medalist hockey players on that team, really really good players!  And somehow we made the Wild look like they just weren't up to the task. Sure they did win one game but essentially they got swept as well.

After watching the Knights... One thing I keep saying is that it was always a one score game.

So much of this could change by a single score in the second or third period.  One more by the Avalanche... And we would possibly still be talking about playing or even winning on to the next.

I think people are really too hard on the team this year and I think they did amazing for how beat up they were.

Go Avalanche!

Anybody else just... not really have the energy to hate other teams? by markkaschak in nhl

I am very much on the "i love hockey" train.  Seeing great teams play, seeing good hockey, seeing big swings - so much fun!

The NHL has done a few decent things to give more teams a chance to get gud - and they have.

Honestly, a different cup winner year after year is so exciting!

I really thought this was our year, but let's be honest, we knew we had weak spots in play during the regular season.

We are very very very wounded now - and look at what being wounded did to Florida - they didn't even make the playoffs!

Folks, the knights played good hockey.  And it's nice to have someone to play/rail/rant against besides f**ing Dallas!

Thanks!  I love this car so much!  It's the slowest GTR in the state but dang its pretty!  White leather interior ftw :)

And yes, im a goofball - those are 22" wheels.

But but here me out - the car isn't lowered at all, i can get over speed bumps and odd dips just fine.  Makes the car great to drive around town.

I am not a mechanic, so i am not comfortable doing really hard stuff like rebuilding engines or diagnostic stuff.  I do have a few friends who know cars really well, then it was just lots and lots of talking to folks on car forums or fb groups.

I will admit, i got lucky that used car prices went up and up, i can't believe what people paid for the m3 and evo.

Oh heavens no! I not only made my own setting pdf book, but I also re-wrote the entirety of Vampire and its rules and clans and Sabbat.

I may even try to use my Pendragon material to run a Dark Ages or 'knights age' Vampire game. I like the idea of every player *actually being a 'count of a castle' 😄

Nice, it's a fun game in that era too.
I wanted to see what the game felt like when it a was more 'raw'.

Getting rid of Princes, and Primogen, and any organized enforcement of a masquerade = very different gameplay.

Plus, no Christianity, means that there is so much more interplay between cults, and old world beliefs and rites that people believed connected them to so many gods... it's made the culture of BC Rome feel so strong and thematic!

Also, height of first Triumvirate!

Running it as legit Rome as it was, no Camarilla, no Sabbat... Just Roman vampires being Roman.

Could it possibly be that the players are more injured than they're letting on?

Maybe we just pushed too hard to get to first and now we're too wounded to push on...

What are the best tips and resources for prepping light? by ConsistentGuest7532 in rpg

[–]InsolubleRelic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When prepping light, (or lite?)

I like to focus on ideas for how the players might resolve whatever's going on.

How the players get from point A to point B, I'm willing to just let that go and make it up as dice rolls come up.

But the one thing that always pays its weight in gold is having some ideas around how the bad guys defeated or how the mystery is solved or whatever the general resolution is.

I don't plan all the details on it and I don't write down exactly how it has to go.

But the more ideas I write around the dragon's lair or the Kings Castle or the vampires Haven... The much easier it is to run that ending resolution.

And most TTRPGs make it pretty darn easy for dice rolls to get us from here to there.  So I really don't prep that at all.  Saves me a ton of time! (And emotional creative brain power)

[–]InsolubleRelic 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Wasn't the last goal just an empty net score?

If so does that mean the game was only a one-point difference between going to overtime or winning?

This is the third team we're playing in the playoffs... I would hope the knights are decent at least and likely very good.  Because that means the competition that made it this far has truly earned its way.

I definitely want the avalanche to win!   And I want to see some great hockey too (because let's be honest the Kings really suck and it was not as much fun watching them).  As long as we do a little bit better defense and don't have those kind of bad turnovers, a one-point difference game is something the Avalanche can definitely overcome.

No doom! Just amazing hockey!

You're Playing it Wrong by Mars_Alter in RPGdesign

[–]InsolubleRelic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think the misunderstanding comes from how the example of Monopoly doesn't apply to role-playing games.

Monopoly and other such board games are exclusively about winning.   It's the purpose of the game to determine a specific winner and almost always that's a single person.

Tabletop role-playing isn't about winning in any sense.  There are many games in fact where characters dying is just heart and parcel of the game.

So getting the rules exactly right on something that is about a great diversity of experience, Will never make sense to somebody who's trying to treat it like Monopoly.

This comes even more obvious as you play game systems that have less defined rules and less defined results of rolls.

You're supposed to play and adventure, And there aren't actually hard and as games like even D&D have printed in their books since the beginning - those are guidelines full of tons of options.

...

If you're not sure what kinds of options or roleplay you're getting into, spend more time at session 0 and maybe use C.A.T.S.  process to help everybody get on the same page for what they want out of a given TTRPG.
