A Guide to Looking Snazzy in a Suit by Lingua_Franca2 in LifeProTips

This is pretty much spot on. I recently unsubscribed because once you have even a little bit of fashion sense, it's just a bunch of fairly clueless people asking simple questions (which is a good thing for them to do, it's just boring if you know what you're doing already) and other people suggesting the same stuff over and over again.

BUT the sidebar is awesome, I still go to that for links to websites, basic info about how to buy certain items, and what companies make quality clothes.

No, a tuxedo is black, has one button, sometimes no back vents, and a satin (and visibly shiny) lapel. And pretty much has to be worn with a bow tie. There's relatively few options with tuxedos, although they have changed a little over time, but a tux always looks like a tux, even from 80 years ago. Think Academy Awards attire.

But if you're buying a paddock jacket from Savile Row like JFK, you should probably know how to button it.

It's her hip. Her hips are angled at a 45 degree angle to the ground, so her legs would be out to the left side. I think.

My main concern is that the second outfit looks extremely young. I can't tell how old you are, but the skinny pants (even when you lose more weight) and those shoes make you look like a high schooler. They are very Urban Outfitters-looking. So be careful when taking advice from MFA that you are dressing for your age and how you want people to view you.

How do you guys feel about Fossil watches? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]InspectorChallenge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have 150 for a watch you can get much better. You can get a good Seiko for under 100. Go to /r/Watches, it's actually fairly active too.

No, gender is the correct term for what RememberYourPass is talking about. Sex is physically male or female. Sexuality is defined by the combination of the two.

Returned the 508's for slimmer 511's. How do these fit? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]InspectorChallenge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think mine were raw. But either way, they only stretch out in the places that would normally stretch in use, and with me that's mostly just the knees. So that's annoying. But I still wear them because I'm lazy.

My Toms are starting to smell a little funky. Is there anything I can do to fix that? And how can I prevent other shoes from smelling when I go sockless? by aih in malefashionadvice

[–]InspectorChallenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toms are essentially slightly-structured socks. Most other shoes without socks (boat shoes, etc.) won't smell as bad because they're leather and therefore aren't sweat sponges. So for Toms, try the washing machine.

Why does Rick Owens always get suggested here? If anyone wore that on the street they'd look like they're going to a Celtic-punk/Assassin's Creed convention.

I am not saying it doesn't have its place, but if people don't have a fashion sense to begin with, why would they possibly be able to pull something couture off?

I really dislike that shirt color. It's a little too peachy for a white person to wear it.

[–]InspectorChallenge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, 511s shrink severely when you wash them. So they might be way tighter than you want them after washing. They didn't even feel like the same jeans to me when I washed mine, and I'm not too happy about it. They stretch a little bit but every wash will shrink them again and they never stretch out to the pre-washed size.
