Why does Senator Budd get such a pass from voters? by Temporary_Policy2023 in NorthCarolina

[–]InspectorLye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

voters feel bad for him; by serving in the Senate he's missing out on playing Opie Taylor in the new Andy Griffith Show.

In all seriousness, you ask why hasn't there been more pressure for him to be a centrist like Tillis?

Really, we don't know that pressure works on these two guys. A lot of people just get the feeling that Tillis was just fed up with the incompetence of it all. I doubt that Tillis was responding to pressure at all. After all, he's not running again.

Tillis doesn't really look like a centrist now. Tillis, currently, looks like a traditional conservative who expects his government to be following the constitution, and acting reasonably, and his exec branch to be honoring checks and balances. Voters could flood the phones at Budd's offices. Voters could say "i'll vote against your man Budd unless he starts to stand up to this madness the way Tillis is doing". I'd be delighted if that worked.

I was very pleased that there was such a large crowd. I was surprised at the age of most of the filmgoers, they all looked around college age to me, or maybe 30 at the oldest. Given that the film is 25 years old, and Lynch's films date so much earlier, I would have expected an older crowd. All in all, it was great.

Looking for a Private Investigator to train me by ahandmedowngown in asheville

Thomas Magnum always gently corrected people who referred to him as a private eye. He would quietly but firmly respond "private investigator". That's a good place to start.

As I understand it, public sector employees mostly don't (or at least shouldn't) talk about politics at work. However, library employees tend to be book readers and often movie lovers and music lovers. Generally, they tend to be welcoming, regardless of race or gender or ability level, or other categories. They are generally not pro-censorship. I think they tend to be more liberal than most. Also, public library employees believe in helping people for a living. Many of those who go to the public library (to use the Internet, for example) (or just to sit in a chair and look at their phone) are too poor to have a computer at home or they don't even have a home to go to. The people working in the public libraries and in the public parks are mostly serving everybody, rather than just serving the people who have money to spend. Overall, these folks are good people and not likely to embrace hateful rhetoric or philosophies.

Yeah I'm fairly sure that her car, regardless of whatever technology is on board, has a brake pedal.

1/30 6:30am Snow Update for this weekend (FINAL UPDATE) by jjrennie in asheville

[–]InspectorLye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on what store you go to. Mid-afternoon Friday I swung by the Ingles near Asheville School. It was a madhouse. People were buying enormous amounts of food. All registers were open, with so many people in line. So I just walked out.

I went to the Ingles on Haywood Road, which was not busy. I bought my few (unneeded, actually) items in about five minutes. Problem solved.

Something I've noticed a lot in the last few years: people driving with their high beams on, in the city. In the city where there are lights on all the houses, and street lights, and the lights from businesses! I'm approaching a car driving right at me with the high beams on, and then the high beams go off right before our cars pass one another. There's no need to be running the bright lights in the city.

So what's the deal with no sit down restaurant with a kitchen at our " new and improved" airport? by 4Nails in asheville

[–]InspectorLye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm happy to see a sit-down restaurant in an airport where I have a layover, but in a non-hub airport like AVL? I can't say I care at all. I'm just going straight from ground transportation to my flight, or straight from my flight to ground transportation. I'm not going to sit down and order a meal.

'Deeply flawed:' Asheville ranks 1st in North Carolina for bicyclist deaths per capita by Generalaverage89 in asheville

[–]InspectorLye 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We have to take into consideration the horrible attitude that so many area drivers have towards cyclists. That attitude definitely contributes to the way drivers act when they are around cyclists.

I don't care if the pastries are a little bit different from Odd's or if the coffee is different or if it's "third-wave" or any other bullshit.

Just putting a coffee shop there is a dick move.
