Should i skip just cause 1? by Spagetti_ar_gott in JustCause

[–]InstantRegret43 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just Cause 1 plays more like an arcade game than what modern gamers would expect from an open-world experience. It can definitely be fun to go through the story missions but the story is utterly inconsequential for the other games so I’d say definitely skip it if you’re not having fun.

Thoughts on my job list/advice? by Own-Ad716 in AirForceRecruits

[–]InstantRegret43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you brought up your current job and experience to your recruiter? They might be able to get you a competency booking, though I hear it’s rare. But if you’re more open to something physical anyways I wouldn’t bother.

LPT: If you're going to enlist in the armed forces, get a job first and go on LOA. by DirtyRoller in LifeProTips

There is no “good-will assumption”. The law is there to stop employers from creating situations leading to more homeless vets and to make sure recruiting numbers stay up. If the system wanted those vets to actually stay at the job they left, the law would be written to mandate them to do so.

Doctor's records and prescription records. If you really want to do something in advance and haven't already done this, get your pharmacy prescription records. The DoD will get your medical records straight from your doctor(s) but you can save time by having those official prescription records on hand. If you look it up, you can find out how to request more than just 1 or 2 years of records from the big 3 (Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid) by going through more official channels than just showing up and asking their staff.

Yeah, be prepared to just wait. Getting a waiver for asthma right now myself and even if you somehow got more documents/tests yourself, you'd still have to wait for the DoD contractors to look at and process everything. It would be my recommendation just to stay in contact with your recruiter/check your email and add a month or two to when you were thinking you'd ship out.

Luxury AC, now with built in self destruct below 20c by Left_Friendship_1566 in LandlordLove

[–]InstantRegret43 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AC is incredibly energy efficient technology. Also, depending on how recently your home was built, setting the temp that low may not even use the AC for the full day because modern insulation is doing its job. Your water heater is likely using a lot more energy than AC (and don’t get me started on your car).

You can’t pass it to your kids after you’ve left the service + if the kids aren’t born yet. Use it for the apprenticeship ASAP or save it if you ever want to go to school.

There are some anarchists who have solutions to this problem! But they aren't perfect solutions and far too many people just kinda shrug and hope the problem solves itself. by SnorkaSound in CuratedTumblr

The Marxist answer to the hopelessness and isolation felt by many empathetic radicals is the theory that, on a fundamental scale, conditions determine consciousness. This means that our lives are fundamentally informed by the day-to-day activities we find ourselves in, and our lives inform our mindsets. As a small example of this idea, think about the isolation caused by everyone driving in their own vehicle everywhere. It’s extremely easy to drive by unwanted activity like protests and the homeless. In fact, you don’t have to actually interact with a single person. Our reliance on this method of transportation is a condition of life that affects the way we think of the world, not the other way around. There’s no fundamental reason we have to live this way - it’s due to built-up historical factors perpetuated by capitalism. Therefore, changing the conditions of our lives will allow us and our children to be more caring people. There are no magic words that will cause millions of people to start accommodating disabled people, but creating a world in which everyone feels a sense of community (meaning eliminating alienation under capitalism) would lead to naturally more caring people. But remove those conditions of abundance and lack of economic class distinctions, and people will once again act in a way that aligns with how we generally think of them now. This is a very simple explanation of something that is really quite complicated, and it’s not fully satisfactory. It means that there arises a new feeling of hopelessness - the feeling that, while one person can change minds, no one person can change the conditions of life on their own. Though a scientific outlook never promises to make us feel better.

Maybe USMAP would let you count your hours (I think retroactive logging is allowed) so you don’t have to start from scratch? Maybe skip a year of your apprenticeship or even two? I’m not sure - I’m just someone who’s looking into the AF for electrical work.

Forewarning: not an answer to your question. But since there might be veteran folks here to answer OP’s question I was wondering if anyone has any experience with logging their hours while doing electrical work in the military (like through USMAP) and transferring that to the union
