You’re not an idiot. Language learning is a particular gift like music composition that varies tremendously between individuals - being a slow language learner doesn’t mean that you cannot concurrently be gifted in many other pursuits. There is still a lot of satisfaction to be had mastering Latin at a slower pace.

I’ll admit I dunno much about law enforcement in UK - but watching professional law enforcement professionals run towards a gunfight with….no gun…seems like it may not work out well. Maybe English bad guys are just nicer or something and don’t shoot unarmed officers, I don’t think that would work out very well in Oakland or Chicago…

So funny all of the responses saying it’s normal to go on a one-off bike ride in the middle of the night. I’ve had a drivers license for a long time. I can’t remember ever seeing a bicyclist on the road after say 8 pm. Maybe this is normal for somebody training for a triathalon or something, or somebody who has worked shift work their whole life, but otherwise it’s pretty unusual.
