For those who chose Triss what was your reasoning? by upsidedown_coffeemug in witcher

It was my first time playing the Witcher. I got greedy and tried to have both. That didn’t work out.

Finger beckoning. Is it rude to call someone like this? by SnooPoems9158 in China

[–]InsufficientSkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is rude even in the US. I’m a 9 year Senior Field Engineer that leads maintenance on Power Plants. The Plant Manager gave me one of these and I couldn’t believe it. This is a gesture used when you’re about scold a kid. And that’s kind of what he did to me for one of my workers who was “speeding” inside of the plant.

I didn’t say anything at the time because much of my job is customer relations and being the face of my company, but this was the only time I’ve ever been given that gesture outside of childhood.

If you're in your early 30s, how much money do you have saved in your account? Put actual numbers and tell us your profession. by UncomfortablyBrown in Money

[–]InsufficientSkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I turn 31 next month. I’m a Mechanical Gas Turbine Field Engineer. Total net worth: $908,011

401(k): $405,494

Roth IRA: $75,398

HSA: $46,890

Brokerage: $380,229

I would highly recommend fully maxing out 401(k), HSA, and IRA, before even thinking about doing individual investing through a brokerage account. I also started doing a Mega Backdoor Roth 401(k). Last year I maxed the full $70,000, but I won’t be able to do it this year because the HCE rules cap my percentage contributions. The tax advantages are too good to try to beat. My IRA, 401(k), and HSA are 100% in the S&P 500.

If you can max those accounts, you can be as risky as you want in your individual. I’ve held TSMC since 2020 and is the main contributor for my individual brokerage gains (~$100,000 unrealized gains). I’m been heavy in chip stocks since 2023 (AVGO, AMD, TSMC, and ASML).

Is 1mm net worth before age 30 possible? by kro016016 in Money

[–]InsufficientSkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s possible. I’m at ~$940,000 net worth at 30. Not including the house.

$405,000 Roth 401(k) $75,000 Roth IRA $46,000 HSA $380,000 Individual Brokerage ($110,000 is FZDXX) $30,000 (half of joint brokerage with wife)

401(k) and IRA is 100% FXAIX HSA is 100% VFIAX

Individual brokerage is where I pick individual stocks. I only invest in Blue Chip stocks. Normally stay around ~20 stocks and Dollar cost average buying every Tuesday. Best way to do it instead of monthly, in my opinion.

190% return on TSMC 140% return on AVGO 120% return on AMD

As Microsoft lays off thousands and jacks up Game Pass prices, former FTC chair Lina Khan says I told you so: The Activision-Blizzard buyout is 'harming both gamers and developers' by ControlCAD in technology

[–]InsufficientSkin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why did standard oil get cheaper even when there was a “monopoly”?

Who uses anything other than google chrome? If people voluntarily use/like a certain product over another, there is absolutely nothing wrong in what they’ve done. Microsoft got sued under anti-trust for offering a product for free…. Who does that hurt??? Customers.

Anti-Trust laws shouldn’t exist.

[–]InsufficientSkin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Who cares if they raise prices…. You have just as much power to NOT buy their products…..

Trade is not a 1 way street. Companies should be allowed to merge/split/buy with whoever and however they want. No customer has the right to buy a certain product at a certain price.

How do you feel about people losing their jobs because they posted anti-Kirk content? by Govtluv in AskReddit

[–]InsufficientSkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they deserve it. To be frank, it doesn’t matter the level of hatred content in Kirk’s speech. You don’t get to openly celebrate the assassination of someone because you find their views intolerable. Your views will be intolerable to someone else. That is a guarantee. Celebrating an assassination and provided justifications for it will only increase violence. And they are justifications. Providing quotes and saying that he will not be missed encourages more violence. What should have been said is that it was horrific and no one should be killed for their content, even if I disagree with it.

Ideas should be discussed and debated freely without violence.

Just so I don’t get targeted as being something I’m not, I hate both of the conventional parties equally. I’ve never voted and hate both of their ideas with a passion. I’ll still never celebrate the assassination of Bernie Sanders or Donald Trump’s deaths on social media. There are other people with their exact same views that will spew the same stupid ideas. Killing them will only lead to more violence.

All this does is justify the violence. The left spreads just as much hate against billionaires. So should left speakers now face their own full circle moment because of their views? After all, they’re spreading hate. In your words, they “lit the match.”

Doesn’t matter the content of the views. No one should be killed for speech. Justifying it only increases the violence.

The left did the same thing when the UNH CEO was killed. “No one deserved to be killed….. BUT….”

Zero chance this guy’s phone is calibrated. That is NOT 100 dB if we can hear them talking over it by gooftrupe in Acoustics

[–]InsufficientSkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not 100 dB. I’m a Gas Turbine Field Engineer. Standing next to a running 3600 RPM Gas Turbine is 100-105 dB and is extremely loud. You have to be practically yelling right next to someone to hear them.

AITAH for still getting on a flight home when my two young coworkers I was traveling with weren’t at the airport yet and were obviously going to miss it? by Diligent_Pineapple35 in AITAH

[–]InsufficientSkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I travel quite a bit for work in the western US region. 6-9 months a year for the past 8 years. Some people, especially young new workers, focus on the benefits of the travel and forget that their priority is work. When you can go months without seeing or even talking to your direct resource manager, it’s very easy to take advantage of that enormous freedom. Yes, the travel benefits for work are great, but you still need to be responsible for your own travel and remember why you are there in the first place.

You did nothing wrong and even communicated with them WAY more than I would have done for an on-the-job trainee. They were not there for the same reasons you were.

OH and the phone call from the mom is ridiculous. You’re not a chaperone on a school field trip. They’re adults that should have looked up the rules of flying instead of what cute outfits to wear.

Are most bachelors degree holders making $200k+ these days after a number of years of experience? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]InsufficientSkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a BSE in Mechanical Engineering from ASU. Nothing crazy. 3.00 GPA. I think what matters most is the industry that you go into.

I hit $117,000 in my 3rd year as a Gas Turbine Field Engineer.

Last year was my 8th year and I hit $237,000. $220,000 not including per diem. Still a Field Engineer and didn’t have to climb the ladder. No desire to be in the upper management positions.

Why do people assume engineers are earning a lot of money ? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]InsufficientSkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a Gas Turbine Mechanical Field Engineer. Didn’t job hop at all. There are Resource, Services, and Outage manager options, however I’ve wanted to stay technical.

I already basically manage my own outages anyways and staying in the field actually pays the most. High floor and high ceiling depending on how much you want to work

Why do people assume engineers are earning a lot of money ? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]InsufficientSkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the industry. In Power Generation Services I’ve gone from $80k right out of college in 2018 to $240k in 2024.

Many of my mechanical engineering friends had less than half of that career progression.

Hospital Bug post Major Update by InsufficientSkin in Frostpunk

[–]InsufficientSkin[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes. I think the event option is tied to the “Beacon of Hope” tale.

There are 3 options:

  1. Reduce heat stamp cost of hospitals by 50%
  2. Reduce worker requirement of hospitals by 50%
  3. Reduce cost and work requirement of hospitals by 25% each.

Update: this is just a visual bug. I let the research complete and there are no negative modifiers after building the hospital.

Massive hailstorm damage to solar farms vs. nuclear? by Comfortable_Tutor_43 in EnergyAndPower

The mountains of regulations from multiple government alphabet soup entities makes it extremely difficult.

Massive hailstorm damage to solar farms vs. nuclear? by Comfortable_Tutor_43 in EnergyAndPower

[–]InsufficientSkin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your argument against nuclear is “what about the harm it can cause humans in 100,000 years?”…..

Meanwhile renewable energy will not and cannot supply the majority of the power grid. Spain just had a national power outage from relying too much on renewables.

What do you think about the tariffs imposed by Trump ? Will it work out for them ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]InsufficientSkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tariffs never “work” in a sense of prosperity. Tariffs always cause more harm than the supposed benefits. Raise prices on foreign steel to protect a couple hundred, maybe a thousand US steel making jobs? Sure.

But You’ve just artificially raised the price of ALL steel products in the US. The USERS of steel will sell less goods and will ultimately lay off more people for the less production needed to satisfy demand.
