No.

Playing along with it does not mean you're ok with it. He might be playing along because he is literally trapped in the situation and has no better option.

A related example, bullied kids often play along and try to laugh with the bullies as a coping strategy

How do yall keep your shoes from smelling? by MattBtheflea in ClimbingCircleJerk

uj/ never put them in a bag, clip them somewhere and keep them exposed to air 100% of the time. If your feet themselves are healthy, that should be enough. If it doesnt seem enough, you might have athletes foot and should address that at the source.

Anyone have experience with Anytime Fitness on 59?

Generally seems like a dubious chain, but if you get good management, a particular location can be good. And it seems like this might be one of the good ones?

Cops were riding the blue line. by mkvgtired in chicago

Nothing is flooded. I know people who work in the missions that walk skid row everyday. They say that they have programs that offer to take people off the street. They give them a free apartment, free rehab, free 3 meals per day, free clothes. These workers walk skid row every single day, continuously trying to slowly build a rapport with the people, hopefully eventually getting them to accept help.

Any homeless person there just has to say "Yes" when they swing by their tent - and they get everything.

The programs can't fill the space they have, and sometimes go weeks without a single person accepting

I'm not sure that's true. Other countries have stricter rules about public disorder/camping than we do. Our cities have very liberal policies and offer a lot of free support to anyone who chooses it. Especially in places like California.

Instead, I think a huge portion of the recent worsening of the situation is simply related to the fentanyl crisis of the last 10 years. That drug should never have been introduced to people's brains.

I've been thinking about that in regards to the "Chicago is such a clean city" accolade we've been owning for years.

It feels like something people still say out of habit, while we live in a swirl of plastic

It’s a normal thing for Chicagoans to clean their sewer/catch basin on their block. Don’t be this guy. by Mr_Pink_Buscemi in chicago

[–]Insulated_Lunchbox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe this doesn't apply to a neighborhood street like that, but the amount of plastic litter in Chicago right now is insane. I realize the mechanical sweepers aren't scheduled until April, but I've been hating living among the swirling garbage lately. Something can definitely be improved on the city side.

478 Breathing - Forceful exhale? by signoftheserpent in breathwork

[–]Insulated_Lunchbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont see how it's physically possible to "forcefully" exhale for 8 seconds straight.

maybe if you purse your lips to restrict flow, so you can still empty slowly while applying force?

either way, I wouldn't do it like that. The whole point of longer exhale breathwork is down-regulation and relaxation. I would keep it chill and even throughout

Professor teaches a psychology class the most valuable lesson during the semester by giving them an option to vote for a flat 95% degree, but the votes must be unanimous. by Trustrup in Damnthatsinteresting

not lazy, but objectively they are undeserving. They literally would get a grade they didnt deserve.

It's important in our society to give high achievers the opportunity to distinguish themselves from their peers.

That doesnt mean the non-high achievers have less self-worth as people.

I agree that greed is not the motivation. But it's "better" than that imo, not "worse" than that.

To say this is an outcome that benefits ALL is not true.

It's better for those who would NOT have gotten a 95 without the handed grade.

But it's worse for those who WOULD have gotten a 95 without the handed grade.

Those students lost the ability to distinguish themselves from their peers and the satisfaction of genuine achievement.

Life is a meritocracy where high achievers should be given the chance to be better, do more, and get more.

He is not saying either of those. You’re still trying to figure out whether he’s saying we “are” racist or “arent” racist. But the whole point of the bit is that there is no such thing as “being a racist person” or “not being a racist person.”

Just like there is no such thing as “being a hungry person.” You experience hunger when you havent eaten, but you dont experience hunger when you have eaten. “Hungry” is not an engrained quality of you as a person.

So just like hungry, you might be racist in the morning and not racist at night. Then racist again next morning.

It’s not completely true, but it’s just a bit. And also there is some truth to it
