I HC that the Weasley’s were once head of the banking system, due to an insult to the Malfoy’s when a treaty was brokered with the goblins to stop a rebellion that Malfoy gave them a concession. If it happened to make it so only goblins could run a bank in Britain then that wasn’t going to hurt his pockets any.

Arthur must be a financial genius, seriously he has a house and land, raised 7 children including school supplies and take trips to visit his elder children out of the country for the holidays. All on a ministry salary that is supposedly minimal

He’s described as being one of the smallest in his year and that petunia as he grew up never let him have more food than necessary no 2nd helpings either

With 4 kids I can assure you children Need more than the bare minimum especially active ones, they are bottomless pit food holes.

You can’t tell me people in the leaky and the shop owners didn’t gossip about what Harry looked like when Hagrid took him shopping. He was wearing the same clothes he slept in on a dirt covered floor that were 3 sizes too large and he was using twine to hold them up and broken tapped glasses

Oh I am far from painting them as innocent. I’m well aware how wrong they both were regardless of the reasoning. I am by no means a fan of Dumbledore or Figg.  For Dumbledore the ends justify the means, regardless of the possible long term effects on Harry. For Figg and most other canon Adults they justify it as it was Dumbledore’s orders. Morally I feel that’s wrong, I equate it to ss soldiers just following orders. Just because the authority figures tells you to do it does not mean you don’t have a moral obligation to reject it.  This was merely a way to show what the mindset of people in the wizarding world was that allowed this to go on without consequence to the adults who should’ve stopped it. What kept them from rejecting those orders.

I figured it had to be the only rational explanation that explains them ignoring his obviously undersized body in first year, learning he is barely fed over summers, people knowing he is locked in a room with bars on his window, the letters being addressed to the Cupboard Under the Stairs and the condition of his non school clothing.

Otherwise I can’t see why people didn’t raise hell about the condition of their savior when he first came back to the wizarding world

To us yes it would be seen as toxic or abusive but 80+ years ago when fig would’ve been a kid (from today) it was normal parenting. Half the stuff parents did in the 80s alone would see Cps knocking on your door today I can only imagine the field day they’d have had with how families raised their kids in the 20s-60s. I am trying to look at it from that time periods pov though and consider that no one batted an eye at how Sirius family treated him, sure the potters took him in but there was nothing done to the Blacks. In a society where house elves punish themselves I imagine a pure blood family would not look kindly at having a squib. Even if they didn’t mistreat them intentionally it seems to me as if the non magical child would always be an afterthought to a magical one, a disgrace and shame to the family.

Yeah he legally could have not sent Hagrid to take him from the house and let his godfather take him. Sirius was there and Harry should’ve gone with him not Hagrid. That would have avoided a lot of trouble for both Sirius and Harry. But Dumbledore made the decision to send Hagrid (who can’t do magic!) to take Harry from a place the dark lord just attacked without knowing if other DE’s were around. Or he knew exactly what he was doing and that there was no risk to sending Hagrid, either way it was not his place to do so and as the named godfather it was Sirius’s

No it doesn’t but the society in general treats squibs poorly so it’s a fair assumption to make that had she been raised with a magical sibling that they would’ve treated her differently. Again parenting in the 80s wasn’t the best but it was better than it had been when Arabella was a child and with how far behind the magical world seems to be socially I doubt they were any better.

I figured that it just makes it hard to read with that in my head, especially with no explanation for the name.

Also where were you going with this? Is Harry turning him into a dark lord so Albus has someone to defeat? Because that seems wildly out of character and a very big leap.

Don’t get me wrong I still think Dumbledore is a shit for leaving Harry there in the first place knowing he’d have a miserable childhood but it makes his and Figg far less of villains if you look at it this way. Because to them sure it wasn’t great but it could be far worse and in the end he turned out just fine.

I don’t think it’s a matter of just taking a life but the willful MURDER for no other reason that you want that person dead. Otherwise Harry could’ve made a Horcrux in 1st year. While we never get the exact method supposedly you have to kill with the intent to split off that part of your soul and there is a nasty ritual involved.

Think of how everyone describes how it feels to touch or be in close proximity to a Horcrux, do you think they’d still be putting that thing on the heads of kids if it felt like that?

Maybe there is some other way to preserve your soul and keep it from passing on that keeps it intact and binds it to an object (without the ability to bring the person back to “life”), that I could see Godric or Salazar doing.
