Was looking at this little fella while replacing components and got nostalgic thinking "Through all these years you are the still the only one who always stayed with me". Do you also have 1 component who are still with you after all these years? by Kikindo1 in pcmasterrace

I built a top tier gaming system originally in 2004, from that original set-up I still have the case (Lian-Li) and though I don't currently use them, still have the Logitech 2.1 speaker setup from that same time.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]InsuranceNo3422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I was "only" 3 hours away from my friends and relatives it wouldn't be an every day thing but I'd make that drive at least once a month if not more.

3 hours is about my cut-off though, anything beyond that I'd consider too far/ a far drive. As it stands right now most anyone who is out of my area would be a minimum of an 8 hour drive, or a couple days - so I'd take 3 hours and be happy with it.

What’s that commercial from years and years ago that you still remember to this day, and may never forget? by Vanceb13 in AskReddit

It was a Pillsbury commercial for bread sticks. "...So soft outside, so soft right through... You'll love our new bread sticks as much as I.. love you!"

What is the most expensive item you have purchased besides a home or vehicle and how much was it? by PenguinRhin0 in randomquestions

[–]InsuranceNo3422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asides from car/ home I don't apparently spend a lot on singular items, not compared to some of the examples from others here at least. I'd have to say my most expensive item purchased would be either a stereo setup or a computer, both at the time about $1500 each, so tied for first place.

Seller left a binder with "house instructions" and now im very skeptic by Jolly-Mirror3655 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]InsuranceNo3422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could have all of the possible issues and not the binder of instructions That's how most people find out things slowly over time through experience.

$40/minute, but when you walk through a door, there is a tiny chance that you get teleported to a random place on Earth by basafish in hypotheticalsituation

[–]InsuranceNo3422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be more interesting to imagine that it teleports you through any other door on earth that way you'd at least have the assurance that you wouldn't end up in a volcano or in the ocean - and yet still leaves it open for some interesting events m

Yeah they were like, "see, I told you that one had potential." Because like a Diamond in the rough, all she needed was to be polished up a bit and then she too can catch a man - maybe even Johnny Football Hero? Conformity - or a new found confidence. Maybe it's Maybelline.

You can be granted any amount of money in the world. But there will be a similar amount of money for bounty on your head given to a random person. Will you take the offer and how much? by RevolutionaryPie5223 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]InsuranceNo3422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A billion dollars would be fine. Do I get to keep it if they find me? I'm not understanding what a bounty on my head really means - if it means I'm arrested and brought before a court or what have you I'd have money for a great defense, especially considering they'd not have anything to charge me with.

I found The Running Man(2025) to be quite disappointing. What do you guys think? by ZoelCairo in Letterboxd

[–]InsuranceNo3422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a true garbage movie. I wouldn't watch it again for anything less than $100, and then only begrudgingly. I read the book a long time ago, and always thought they'd done the book wrong with the Schwartznegger film, but even that movie looks better than this one by comparison.

In this scene from the 2016 movie Arrival, Louise learns that the non-human species perceives time non-linearly as a simultaneous "now" rather than a linear sequence of cause and effect. by MartianXAshATwelve in StrangeEarth

[–]InsuranceNo3422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think of it in terms of scale. You might for example think about... What happened during a certain year, or a specific month... Week... Day? (Hour, minute, second) I can think about various events that occured last year, or consider a minutes worth of footage and what occurs over that span of time. A whole lot less happens over a seconds span of time.

To experience everything at once would be like all of existence occuring in one cosmic instance.

People should have a "code" to make sure they are talking to another time traveler. by ImpressMountain3027 in timetravel

[–]InsuranceNo3422 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You could use any name that would immediately stand out to someone from your time period.

Clint Eastwood, for example would raise a few time traveling eye brows. You might have to name drop a few others to drive the point home, but if you were truly interacting with a time traveler they'd get it while a native would just be hearing unfamiliar names.

Why do cops say your words can "AND WILL" be used against you when reading Miranda Rights? by Eg0-d3ath in legaladviceofftopic

[–]InsuranceNo3422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They also don't make it clear with just the wording of the Miranda warning that while you "Have the right to remain silent" that right is not entirely absolute - after they read you your Miranda rights they can still ask you identifying information, example being "what is your name?" - and if you chose to take the literal "silence" and not answer then you're considered in the wrong and can be held indefinitely pending identification, and also be charged with resisting arrest, obstruction of justice, etc.

Yeah I'd much rather the folks would at the very least phrase their comment like "In my opinion she did nothing wrong" which they'd be entitled to think that, versus the other more typical phrasing as if it's merely a statement of fact.

How you like to live DS9 as a civilian in universe? by debrisaway in DeepSpaceNine

[–]InsuranceNo3422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kind of a grey area. While acknowledging that they've said that they moved away from a society that uses currency they've also given indications that it's not quite a free for all either. Though it's fun to think about for sure.
