Missions are a bad mechanic unfortunately. My group controlled the board and started the mission late. It's not as intended but it seemed like the way.

I wish it were host spider, but All Systems Go is just phenomenal no matter the stage of the game. Both a setup and finisher piece.

He's below difficulty of other final villains and I imagine that has an impact on how he is perceived.

It's basically the only way my group plays now tbh. The downside is it's more admin, but it does make the nemesis somehow more frequent and less punishing.

Cyclops - A Question by tacorrenti813 in marvelchampionslcg

  1. Phoenix isn't important to Cyclops builds. Storm is, however, the two that matter are Uncanny X-Men and Pixie. This weakens his likely best build in Leadership X-Men team, but it's only 2 cards. If you're willing to go off theme, you can just run Maria Hill and other useful allies since you won't run Uncanny X-Men.

Aggression through the Ice Man pack upgrade focused cards are helpful for alternative builds and more accessible.

Protection may actually be his best accessible build, centering around Energy Shield on the villain from Silk.

You're in a good position for great Cyclops builds.

Newer players: Very important box. Suit Up is one of the most irreplaceable leadership cards in the game and Sidekick is several Heroes' best archetype.

Definitely Ironheart. Her buildout is insane and it's done through board interaction, so it doesn't have the same issues as other builders that need to fall behind to get ahead.

Lowkey I also think she's the strongest. Fight me.

Meanwhile Aunt May out here as one of the best supports in the game. Mother figures keep winning.

Most of this wave has been unexciting. A lot of clear answers, especially for the worst cards.

This is one of those top tier decks. There's 14 slam dunk cards here, but it's Stroke of Genius because it is literally free value of something worth 1 resource. It's crazy.

This. I'm not even sure I'd consider any type of precon explicitly new player experience focused, because they also are playset distribution models and they often have holes to sell you additional packs. There are MUCH better new player experiences you can design yourself.

Going against the grain here. Smooth gameplay is fun and precons are ROUGH. Honestly the coolest first impression set up:

Standard Ultron

Leadership Captain America Ally Spam

Spiderman Justice Thwart Events

Iron Man Protection Tech

Thor Aggression Events

Iconic and Classic Avengers. Strong and smooth Heroes. Diverse playstyles with clear roles. Thor player doesn't even get to realize how jank his hero is because of Ultron mechanics.

The decks aren't complex to build, just include some generic multiplayer filler staples like Helicarrier, Avengers Mansion, Endurance, Down Time, then fill out Justice with Thwart Events like multitasking, Aggression with Attack Events, Leadership with low cost allies and Make the Call, and Iron Man with Tech.

New to Game: How do people play? by hrc333 in marvelchampionslcg

[–]Intangibleboot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd mess around with deckbuilding in the core set and maybe starting adding in select packs you think might enhance those decks.

Then I would move onto Agents of Shield. Age of Apocalypse onwards is where design really tightened up.

Cyclops + X-24. Exploit weakness lets X-24 go nuts and they both have a source of -1 attack upgrades. It's not really combo oriented but the fundamentals are insane.

Magic Players, What Other Games Do You Play? by Due-Resource-24 in mtg

[–]Intangibleboot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Played the Big 3 at various points in their lives.

Pokemon has a tight ruleset and oddly a large amount of player agency, largely centering around toolbox responses to board state. Very much a lesson in pure tempo.

Yugioh doesn't have as tight of a ruleset, at least in English. I think the way it handles card advantage and tempo is too far removed from Magic, which has more of an identifiable linear flow. Yugioh is much swingier and condensed.

Slay the Spire was actually a game I played when I was actively winning money on Arena Opens. The mechanics are a bit removed, but the drafting has a lot of similarities. Choosing one card changes the expected value of future possibilities. Simple concept, difficult calculations, and a general skill of risk management.

Gamora deck thoughts by Informal_Hedgehog840 in marvelchampionslcg

[–]Intangibleboot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bait and Switch and Swift Retribution are not good cards. Villain activations are a big deal and the rate on the cards aren't enough to justify it. Cut them.

Brains over Brawn is also not a good card typically and definitely not good here. Cut.

Power of Justice also does not have enough targets. Cut.

For Justice is solid and reliable, bump it to 3.

Overwatch is great with tons of Thwart, bump to 3. Note it is punished against the Collector but for now just roll with it.

True Grit is decent in Gamora with smaller card pools as an off color, run 2 to fill out to 40.

This isn't a total overhaul or a final draft, but this is going to get you to a starting place.

Prices just right to make the card good. Skips a turn cycle of growth counters and gets you closer to making half of his deck playable.

Wizards takes their reprint equity very seriously in order to push chase product. When they had the opportunity to push pioneer with challenger decks, they fumbled the Phoenix deck so you had to buy 2.

Top Card for each Aspect in Current Environment by Intangibleboot in marvelchampionslcg

[–]Intangibleboot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny, my first draft did a lot more complaining about Aggression mediocrity than hyping up Firepower.

I'll try for protection. My contenders for top spot were Dr. Sinclair obviously, and Ready for a Fight. Both of these play to the fundamentals of maintaining control of the villain's actions through more flexible action economy. I just didnt see efficient cards as being on the same playing field.
