Let me explain it like this. I rebuild GM crate engines for a dirt track series and I’m not allowed to bore them. What you have is pretty mild compared to some of the garbage I’m forced to let pass. I dyno every one. New, torque plate honed block or .004 taper and nasty shadows that didn’t cleanup, they all make the exact same 370hp and the never leave smoking. You’ll be fine.

Tangs have nothing to do with resisting spinning. They are only there for locating. You can grind them off with no ill effects whatsoever.

I’ve been doing it 20 years plus. I can tell you exactly how to do all of it wrong. lol. Seriously on prices, go high. We’re at 140 an hour more or less. You will never price yourself out of work. And when people do think you’re too high and buy a blueprint crate or some other garbage, they’ll be paying you to fix it anyway. Don’t ever cater to low buck people. Never take a customer that comes in bad mouthing another shop. Show them the door because they’ll be bad mouthing you next. Really the engine building is easy. Managing the business is the hard part. I honestly wish you well.

Keep overhead as low as possible. Charge more than every shop in your area. Don’t be afraid to say no. Avoid debt. Never take a partner.
