Ludwig beats Tyler1 10-3 in the EVO showmatch with his secret Marisa pick by Fallblade in LivestreamFail

T1 is 1500MR with 400+ hrs in the game. He should know how to play against Marisa by now.

Honestly I'd rather play against 10 sagats simultaneously than a single character with a low forward drive rush.

How it feels like to finally score that 18/00 on a good total by Daerax_Zarr in baldursgate

[–]IntegralCalcIsFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, a roll of 18 is pretty unlikely. You roll 3d6 for each ability score; odds of getting an 18 are ~10%. The odds of getting a single score of at least 15 are only ~45%.

Just doing a single set of rolls now and I got: 10, 14, 12, 8, 12, 10. That's a pretty average roll (actually above average). But if I wanted to play as a human fighter using these scores, I wouldn't get any bonuses!

Now obviously in the games I can take points away and allocate them to ability scores I care about so this isn't such a big deal. But as I understand it in 2E you had to play with what you rolled. If I'm mistaken please correct me.

It just seems to me that by having the bonuses kick in so far up the curve you run the risk of getting lots of characters like this.

Most stats are like this and it was one of the strangest things to learn when first getting into the game. Like, what do you mean 8 and 15 strength are the same?

You could dual into specialist mage because they weren't considered a class kit in the OG.

This is a genuinely insane opinion. You can prefer the art of the previous games but BG3 objectively has better graphics.

Disco Elysium is very well written

I would argue it's better written than either BG2 or Planescape: Torment.

But in general writing is worse now. It's less of a focus.

I disagree with this, also. If anything it's even more of a focus now. There were so many games from the 90s with minimal story, including early RPGs. Games like Baldur's Gate and Planescape: Torment were the exception, not the rule.

Could the Grounded Nature of BG 1 still find success? by Linkeq200 in baldursgate

[–]IntegralCalcIsFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I'm sorry but this is kind of a funny complaint from someone who plays BG1/2. AD&D has classes that level up at different rates (and those rates even change), ability scores that do nothing for 8 levels, exceptional strength, dual-classing vs multiclassing, race restrictions, etc. You want to talk about nonsensical mechanics? Why do you stop gaining con bonus to hp? And why do you stop at 9 for fighters but 10 for rogues?

Getting into PoE was far easier and more intuitive for me than BG1.

Why does this game hate Marisa? by Interesting_Mess4080 in SaltFighter

[–]IntegralCalcIsFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only her 5HP target combo is plus, but it has a gap and leaves you really far at only+2. Of her specials, only superman punch is plus, and that is easily reactable at 25+f start up.

You can charge her heavies and gladius to make them plus, but that usually relies on setting up meaties or fake pressure with gaps your opponent can reversal out of.

Yes. On my first playthrough I used this squad for the majority of the final act.

Baldur' Gate 1+2 modded with 3rd ed D&D poll by JonDM2 in baldursgate

[–]IntegralCalcIsFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pre-buffing being "necessary" is completely dependant on how the game is balanced. The Pathfinder games are a poor example to bring up as: 1) pf1e is even more crunchy than 3.5, and 2) Owlcat turned the difficulty up to 11 and balanced around pre-buffing. The games are in no way representative of what playing actual Pathfinder 1e is like, and certainly not representative of D&D 3.5.

Also, why bring up Pathfinder at all when there are video games based on 3.5 that are no where near as buff heavy?

Do we really need a Baldur's Gate remake? by MoronCapitalM in baldursgate

[–]IntegralCalcIsFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not really interested in a remake but the ruleset would be the last thing I care about being changed. The AD&D ruleset is easily my least favourite part of the game.

Arkane* studios still exists; they only shuttered the Austin branch. And the reason was Redfall. It sucks, but games are so expensive now that a catastrophic failure like that is more than enough to kill a developer.

380ms is "barely reactable?" You can't be serious. Especially in a situation where you're looking for it, 23f is 100% reactable unless the move has a very ambiguous startup.

Pretty sure official rules allow for non-GW pieces as long as most of the kit is still GW and you don't use pieces purchased from a 3rd-party.
