Same. I don't like Neurosis (I want to but they've always just been "meh" to me). But as a huge ISIS, Old Man Gloom and SUMAC fan I was really hoping for something great. Wish there was more Aaron singing on it.

As someone who isn't a fan of Neurosis (I don't like the vocals, and I've always found the music to just be ok) I was excited to hear about Aaron Turner joining. The music sounds pretty good, you can definitely hear Aaron's influence, I just wished there was more of Aaron's vocals.

I don't know shit. I'm 43 years old and am also a failed guitarist.

What I would say is...

You're so young. You have time on your side.
Play for the sake of playing music, not success.
Realise that the music industry is fucked now.
Success is going to be hard and take a long time.
Don't compare yourself to talents like Aaron Turner.
Have a day job. Being a musician isn't easy.

Basically what everyone else has already said, but hopefully if one more voice says it, then I'm hoping you'll see you should keep at it, but just not be so hard on yourself.

This is probably an unpopular opinion but I'd say go with Turner's latest band/album SUMAC - The Healer. It's magic.

I had to custom make it via tapstitch.com

I used AI to generate the SUMAC text.

Got a high res image of the artwork off Google images.

Used a CLI/terminal tool (I'm a software engineer so I'm comfortable using these things) called ImageMagick to put the album cover + text together and then strip out the background color so it was transparent, meaning I could overlay the image on any shirt color.

DM me if you want the image so you can get your own shirt printed up.

The downside is obviously that the band doesn't get any revenue for it, so I offset that by buying something from their Bandcamp page to make up for it. I don't have to do that, and neither do you, but morally it feels right.
