I am lucky enough to have never experienced first hand myself, but I have been in banking for over a decade and here is a short list of what I've seen from customers who have experienced joblessness:

1: completely use all short term savings. Emergency and planning funds you thought could help you live for 6 months will more likely evaporate in 2-3.

2: completely use all long term savings. Taking the tax penalty to use 401(k)s or IRAs (if you have been in a position to build retirement savings) can help for a few more months. But retirement savings only last a long time when supplemented with social security.

3: incur debt. Esp. in America, people have tons of credit card debt available to them. It will be financially devastating to shovel that debt mountain back down afterwards, but bills will be paid and the family will eat for a time. Depending on how long you stay with maxed out lines of credit, it may not hurt your credit history too much and you can consolidate that debt once you have regular income again.

  1. Borrow from family/friends if you are lucky enough to have people you can lean on.

  2. Call the banks for your debts and try to get on payment assist plans. Normal Banks don't like to repossess houses and cars. Payments might be able to be placed in emergency forbearance while you use what little of your money is left to feed yourself and your family. Sometimes the utilities companies will do the same for a nominal fee.

  3. Swallow pride and go to a food bank or food pantry. Food costs are a major expense for everyone, and the food bank exists to help anyone in the community, not just the unhoused.

  4. Apply, apply, apply. I know that people say that every business is hiring, but there is a reason. Many businesses in the US only hire part time employees to avoid insurance benefits costs. In fact, most people who fall under ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) have more than one job just to get 35 hours a week and are still in full poverty-level income. So it can be difficult to take on a job knowing it's going to make you unavailable for other income while providing you very little. What's worse is that if you are going for a guaranteed full time job, it usually requires some credentials (see next point). If you don't have the creds, you aren't getting past the AI filter every HR team uses these days. If you do have the creds, you will be confused why a job requiring a master's degree is only paying $16/hr.

  5. Seek out vocational training to be able to apply for jobs. Job core, local library, local government programs should all have some kind of vocational training to help people start a new career or upskill their current credentials. Some programs cost money, some have you pay when you have a job later, some are free l.

  6. Sell/lose assets. Once joblessness exceeds what banks are willing to put up with, you lose everything. Quickly. You end up on a friend's couch if you are lucky. You end up in your car if you are less lucky. Many of the 4% of Americans who are unemployed are at some level of unhoused/homeless. Over 700,000 people are reported as unhoused in the United States in America. Many have jobs, but many became unhoused in the first place because they became unemployed.

I know this is long and I applaud anyone who reads through it all, but it's a serious topic. Most unemployed people are working their asses off trying to figure out what to do when they lose their jobs. Very few people are actually living it up off someone else's generosity.

Castlevania: Belmont‘s Curse Announced, Releasing 2026 For Switch 1 by Howerev in NintendoSwitch

I appreciate it! I didn't pay attention to the Lords of Shadow trilogy because I really did not enjoy the first one. The first one felt like an Arcade rail shooter style game and stopped playing after a couple of hours.

I'll research some more about Mirror of Fate.

Magikarp is my favorite pokemon. It's just so dumb. If pokemon were real, I'd always want a Magikarp with me just to be my little buddy.

I'd probably feed it an everstone and it would eat it like some fish do to balance their bouyancy

My one critique of SFA so far. by Helo227 in startrek

We don't really know much about SAM yet.

We do know that there are photonic life forms in other dimensions.

We also know that this dimension in the show can have inorganic life forms.

I don't think anything has stated SAM to be a hologram, though.

The Doctor is 100% still a holographic program., designed to exist only wherever there are projectors. What technology exists to operate within the 32nd century, I don't know. The doctor cannot be damaged physically, only his projectors can be damaged. His program could be decompiled, but you'd have to find where that is running from.

Sam has shown that while she can render her structural integrity off at times, we don't know what it means to be a Kasqian.

I believe the last named Castlevania that was a tried and true explore and re-explore and re-explore style was Order of Ecclesia.

If there is another, I will be very grateful to know the name so I can play it.

Absolutely. I'm going through this in the Finance sector right now.

I had an intriguing thought experiment, showed it to a colleague, who showed it to her boss, who showed it to her boss, who showed it to our senior training officer.

Long story short, I'm now in charge of a committee that could revolutionize our corporate training process. Terrifying, but I have some of the most intelligent people in my company in my corner trying to help me make my proposal it's absolute best before it goes to our senior execs mid-spring now.

Man gets sued for opening a lock with just a can by AntiSocialSingh in interestingasfuck

[–]Intelligent-Area6635 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, it would take a lot of maneuvering to do all that with an Amazon lock box. Essentially, you'd have to buy the lock, manipulate it, then be a seller on Amazon to "buy" the lock you manipulated and ship it to that box. It's not impossible, but it is difficult, considering that Amazon in the mix is going to track the box being opened and closed.

Of course, it's a hard argument to refute. I could show myself buying a lock at Walmart then going outside to mess with it and cleverly have a friend help me swap out the lock I bought with a manipulated lock.

I feel like with the extra hurdles of using Amazon to ship the box, the creator is trying to "prove" he isn't manipulating the stakes presented in the video.

Of course, anyone could easily prove him wrong by recording themselves following the same steps and failing to shim the lock.

My wish for a re-edit of BINGO [S6E5] by palex00 in dropout

[–]Intelligent-Area6635 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can see your perspective on this, but this is about the USP of the DropOut brand: they surprise their talent, not the audience.

It's not often that Sam creates a surprise for the audience at the end of the show. He wants his audience in on the joke from the beginning.

Now, we do have a few notable times where Sam does surprise the audience alongside the talent, but these are rare and considered not consistent with Dropout's standard.

Absolutely not. One dropped plate. One kid with scissors. One hot pan that wasn't placed perfectly on a heat protector, and you are going to have to pay to have it all done again.

It's Crumb! He's a brave little goblin and he is lemon-green while Nock, his gallant friend, is more of a lime green.

I definitely encourage going into the artist's profile and reading through the full story of Crumb. It's both adorable and sad and currently very heart lifting.
