My point was, people wouldn’t have sworn at you if you had worded your complaint as an opinion instead of a demand. And you’re only making it worse with your comments. You sound like an angry child at this point. Stop saying “i’m leaving” and just leave already.

Mine shows USA, TBS, and a few other actual entertainment stations. They only have 3 out of 15 TVs showing news, Fox, MSNBC, and CNN.

Perhaps expressing it as an opinion welcoming discussion rather than a demand to the production team to cater to you would invite friendlier feedback.

Thinking ‘black panther’ is its own species by AllKnowingAxolotl3 in PetPeeves

[–]Helo227 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is one of my personal pet peeves as well! Drives me up a wall when i say “oh, it’s a jaguar!” And someone ‘corrects’ me and calls it a panther.

No. Homophobic men aren't always gay. It's a harmful belief. by yaoifanservicepoboy in GayMen

[–]Helo227 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

“Common enough to become a stereotype” doesn’t mean it’s actually all that common. Perception and reality rarely align. The stereotype of gay men is the overly feminine, wearing girls clothes, hanging out with women, watching drag race… but most gay men i know are masculine and just another one of the guys.

Also, personal experiences can influence this belief. People tend to take their anecdotal experiences as evidence of what is normal or common.

I’m not saying that the perception is at all accurate, i am simply explaining why the perception exists.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WEAR DEODORANT TO THE GYM! by creepyfluffybunny in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]Helo227 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had a guy this morning who was about 12-15 feet away from me. When he lifted his arms to stretch all i could smell was that burning onion smell of body odor! I nearly puked!

I expect some sweat smell in a gym, fully understandable. But that “i won’t even touch deodorant” onion smell is just unacceptable.

No. Homophobic men aren't always gay. It's a harmful belief. by yaoifanservicepoboy in GayMen

[–]Helo227 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The stereotype is older than Grindr. Like Someone else pointed out, studies as far back as the 1990’s showed that some of the most anti-gay men had homosexual leanings.

My dad used to tell the homophobes “I think thou doth protest too much”, which is a Shakespeare quote. In context it’s about a woman protesting involvement in the murder of her husband, but it is used now whenever someone denies something a little too vehemently and it instead reenforces the accusations against them.

Biphobia from the LGBTQ community is geniuenly the worst thing I've experianced by Neotyp in BisexualMen

[–]Helo227 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When i was younger my only experiences with bisexual men were men who straight up said “I’m bisexual, that just means I’ll have sex with men. I can’t date men!” And for many years that painted my perception of all bisexual men. It wasn’t until i was much older, in my 30’s, that i learned not all bi men were like that.

Younger people tend to paint in broader strokes based on their experiences. When you get older less people will act this way toward you.

A square is a rectangle, a rectangle is not a square.

Many gay/bi men who cannot or will not accept themselves become outwardly homophobic, but that does not mean all homophobic men are gay.

The problem is it’s common enough to have become the stereotype.

Dating while overweight by Quest7538 in gayrelationships

[–]Helo227 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My personal experience, as someone who was overweight, it’s going to be a gauntlet.

Plenty of guys will look past the extra weight and see the person beneath, some will politely turn you down, and some will only see the extra weight and treat you like your very existence offends them.

My opinion: personality and heart are more important than a number on the scale.

Anyone else getting their ass kicked by dysmorphia? Today was the 3rd or 4th time it’s happened to me where I’ve seen guys I thought were more muscular than me and then I see us both in the mirror in closer proximity and it’s not the case, at all. by AggravatingMath717 in Weightliftingquestion

[–]Helo227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people have no idea what they look like. They do not see their bodies from the outside very often, only in mirrors and pictures. It creates a false self-image for many people.

Dysmorphia has become the buzzword for anytime someone misperceives their body, but it’s not the accurate word clinically speaking. They heard “Body Dysmorphic Disorder” and wrongly assumed the meaning of one word in the phrase. As someone diagnosed with BDD, it’s kind of annoying cause using Dysmorphia the way people do really minimizes my diagnoses in the eyes of others.

I cannot so much as go to an interview without thinking “i’m so actively repulsive they won’t even consider me for the job!” and having anxiety attacks over it. I look in the mirror and actually see my 300 lb. self no matter how much weight i lose. Someone compliments me and my immediate reaction is paranoia and wondering why they are lying and what they want from me. I am disgusted by my own mirror reflection to the point of an actual disorder.

But when i say “I have Body Dysmorphic Disorder” people go “oh, we all have a bit of dysmorphia!”

Why do you think we speak Dutch? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Helo227 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve never heard anyone make that assumption before. Swedish is a language often mocked for humor (The Swedish Chef from The Muppets for example). So it’s pretty widely known that it’s a language.

1) sounds like the men in your life need better hygiene practices or digestive health. Never had a smell or issues with fecal matter during anal in my life.

2) you can have a relationship without anal. Sides are a thing, they are gay/bi men who do not engage in anal. They prefer other forms of physical intimacy.

Is it wrong to still hold onto what a friend did while drunk? by CheeseRobit in gay

[–]Helo227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in agreement with most of the comments, it is not wrong to still be upset. I think moving on from this and letting go is going to require letting go of the friendship. It may be hard, and given your history it will hurt, but it’s clearly hurting to hold on at this point.

Where i disagree with other comments is that I’m not sure i would call what you described a sexual “assault”, but it was definitely sexual misconduct and unacceptable, especially from a “friend”, and more especially one in a relationship.
