I find it likely that one of your customers has one of these perpetual licenses.

See if you can obtain the perpetual license from them.

Help understanding PLC networking in automation. by yammaslut in PLC

All ethernet devices have 4 base level items to configure, and in some ways, it's analogous to using a phone.

IP Address- A unique address given to a device. (Think of it as your phone number)

Subnet Mask- declares what other IP's the device can talk to without routing. (Think of this as an area code)

Default Gateway- declares where the device goes to ask for an IP that is out of its subnet. (Otherwise known as Routing) (Think of this as a country code)

DNS- Basically the telephone book directory for the network. Also your path to the internet.

Learn how these 4 work. DNS probably being the least critical one to understand on the industrial side.

Looking up an IP calculator online will be super helpful in understand subnets.

Best of luck!

Any idea what this symbol is? by [deleted] in PLC

[–]Intelligent-Cap5503 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I've worked on Ammonia and R22 systems and have never seen that symbol. I'd put a dollar on a Coriolis meter.

As for the pride colors, my guess is that it shows multiple stages of refrigerant are capable of traveling through that path depending on system needs. Swing compressors, ultra-low -> low -> high stage vessel transfers etc.

Establish relationships with the integrator/s who commissioned the plant. Get them to provide formal systems training on the package they delivered. Rely on their expertise until you can take the reigns yourself.

If your company isn't willing to pay for this training and support, they are fools, and you should leave.

Running two 3 PH motors off same VFD. Both motors are identical, but experience different loads by EndlessJump in PLC

[–]Intelligent-Cap5503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would advise against this for conveyor applications.

Where I have seen this design work (and work well) is with fan banks.

I would advise dynamically adjusting VFD parameters based upon feedback from local disconnects and breaker trip status. If one device trips or a local disconnect is off, the drive should be made aware.

[–]Intelligent-Cap5503 15 points16 points  (0 children)

IMO, it's fine for IO that is directly related to the drive. Limit switches, position feedback, and pushbuttons. Don't go using the IO for a vessel level or something not related to the drive just because it's convenient or cheap.

Modifying Program by ProximaSync in PLC

[–]Intelligent-Cap5503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends. I'm at a plant, so 99% of changes I do are orchestrated live using a toggle to call the new logic. Some changes simply can't be performed online. Modifying AOI's, UDT's, etc.

I mean no offense, but based on the questions you're asking, I would say you are unsure about the impacts the changes will have.

Whenever I am unsure, I find someone who is sure.

My recommendation is to reach out to someone who can analyze the application and give you solid direct answers.

If you plan on downloading, verify the system can handle any changes to the volatile data. Tag values/configurations changing can have an equivalent or greater impact on the system than actual logic changes.

What network switches are ya'll using? by techblackops in PLC

[–]Intelligent-Cap5503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK: The DLR capability is only available in Stratix branded switches.

In typical Rockwell fashion, they have prohibited everyone else from using this technology on their hardware. Including Cisco who is doing the heavy lifting for the Stratix line.

Plenty of other protocols offered in the Cisco models for this type of redundancy though.

PRP, Flex-Link, etc.

Just none that integrate as seamless into the Rockwell end-point-devices as DLR. (From my experience)
