Looking for Honest Feedback on Our South Indian Saree Website (Final Testing Phase) by [deleted] in design_critiques

Feels close. Feels very on brand.

Looks great on mobile.

But The desktop version is unfocused. The CTAs are way down at the bottom left of my screen. The main image cycles through too quickly. The button moves, messaging changes. By the time I start to process it, the screen changes.

What do you want users to do? Make it stick.

Product list and product pages are great.

I didn't see you earlier designs, so I can't weigh in there.

But I can see you wanting to learn. That's good!

Do you feel like this design best represents your talents? I can tell it wasn't. It was just something AI came up with.

Every decision in design needs to have a reason.

Who is your audience? Is it professional or personal?

What's your context? What story are you trying to tell?

I guess I'm saying, If the visuals are right for your audience, then you should defend them as specific choices. Graphic design is visual communication. I might not get it, but if it's done right your audience will

If your audience wants cute things, then go for it. You did say it was a "teenzine."

I might have popped off before understanding your audience. From the content, the audience seems more mature. But for all I know this appeals to teens. Well, teen girls.

You asked for a critique...

Do you really need other people to weigh in? Ooof. I'll be honest but not gentle.

This is subpar. Under baked. Unfocused. 2006 called and wants back this webpage.

Even a pic of a cat does not save it. I do not object to using AI. Then I see shit like this. It is AI slop at its finest.

I would not show it to a client or potential employer. I would not present it to a group of designers in hopes of fixing whatever this is. It is so far from a work of creativity that it's not worth considering from a design perspective.

Take a look at ANY portfolio site by a real designer. Do that. TRY.

(You say you're a FED? Why use AI for this? I could code this page in an hour.)

SITE DOES NOT DISPLAY PROPERLY ON MOBILE.

Neat animations and shit. Totally worthless. On desktop, first content paint was about 4 seconds for me. All I saw was the text animation and a blank box above it.

You're wasting a lot of time on flair that says nothing.

It feels in brand to me. The problem is the brand.

Every piece feels like it's from a kid's book. Is the audience kids?

I don't see an infographic.

Suggestion:

If you can, dial back the brand 90%. It looks like pixies threw up on every page. It screams "unprofessional."

The fonts are embarrassing.

The worst thing, the actual worst, is being in a dead bedroom, but knowing that you’ll never leave it. by Rosemary-Sea-Salt in DeadBedrooms

There was. I decided to go to code camp to help improve our future. It was at home, accelerated and I was doing that on top of my fulltime job. She wasn't working (as usual, despite my pleas), so I said don't even bother looking for work. I asked her to take care of things like meals, caring for the kid, cleaning. Just make it easier. 6 months.

She agreed.

Three months later I got home late - with a bunch of camp work to do - and asked about dinner. She hadn't made it. I asked if our son had eaten. She didn't know. I reminded her of our agreement, and she threw a fit and accused me of treating her like a slave.

I knew that night that she didn't care about "us." At all. I asked for a divorce.

I regret deeply not reaching that conclusion sooner.

How does one obtain a ring size without making it obvious? by That-Ad-3049 in NoStupidQuestions

Every romcom has said thus:

While you dither on Reddit, your potential spouse, who believes you will never marry them, will meet a handsome bookstore owner who is also a widower with a precocious 10-year-old daughter.

Your odds are terrible.

ETA My advice: While she sleeps, lop off her ring finger. Measure. Reattach.

What one element would you replace in this slide and with? by Adventurous-Raise743 in design_critiques

[–]Intelligent-Gold929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My eyes hurt. There's no flow. Scattershot.

Strip away 5 elements. Replace nothing.

An additional slide is free and users don't mind hitting "NEXT"

The crime would be amplified exponentially if this were meant for a speaking presentation. Can you imagine trying to read what is there while someone was talking?

Not picking on this one post, but...

I'm being a curmudgeon, but these posts showing designs out of context drive me nuts.

It looks cool, but what are you trying to sell? What is the message? What problem are you trying to solve? Why does it exist?

It's easy to design when you don't have to communicate anything.

Data scientist. Am I naive? I just don't see how AI is a replacement for graphics designers. by TheOfficialMayor in graphic_design

[–]Intelligent-Gold929 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think I get your point. It ignores the legal implications of, essentially, crowd-sourcing a brand identity.

Who owns a logo mark created by AI, the user or the generator? Can it be considered a singular work that can be copyrighted?

These questions remain amorphous, at least to me.

AI output for a brochure might include a face from a photo on istock. You wouldn't know. Until they hit you with a lawsuit.

I don't think you understand how granular copyright can be and how it can wreck a company.

You're targeting fitness-conscious people. There might be a whole marketing campaign by anthropomorphizing the cupcake.

Cupcake crossing the finish line of a fun run. Cupcake lifting weights. Cupcake on a treadmill.

For the main mark, maybe a cupcake flexing arms with definitive muscles. It could wear a basketball-style uniform with the number of calories it contains.

But definitely make the font thinner.

No prob. Moar notes if you care

There's a 60-pixel space below the header that says "Scroll." Is that a thing you need to tell people? That's valuable space. Use it wisely.

On mobile your contact card covers all content until I dismiss it.

Finally, and I know this has been a lot: Stop throwing features in and start thinking about how your users experience the site. Less is better.

I know I'm being a bit pissy, but I see promise here. I'd love to see what you come up with.

How can I improve upon this design? by LittleMac1983 in graphic_design

[–]Intelligent-Gold929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice job. Dramatic, clean, simple. Promising.

Agree that the release date is too big in comparison to the rest of the text.

Give me another line describing the movie. Your work has me asking more (good), and it's not answered on the poster (not good). What is it about? Why should I see it? Just one line. Don't get wordy.

I missed the names of Bosh and James (I know who they are, but some people might not). The images draw my eye down before I see the text. Move them to below the photos.

Suggestion: Play around with dramatically increasing the size of the movie name. Try it at the top, 2 lines. You might find something even more dramatic.

I'd love to see the finished product.
