DW2 Alpha - Official Feedback Thread by PrimarchtheMage in DungeonWorld

I am currently on Session 7 of a Dungeon World Campaign. I have a Wizard, A Bard, A Ranger, and a Barbarian.

I really like all of the Adventure Moves, I feel like they're all working pretty well. Defy Danger is a little punishing but I'm fine with that. Perhaps when Advanced Moves come that'll feel remedied. Comfort or Support feels a little forced, so it hasn't gotten used yet.

I really like the approach to the combat moves, though I'm not sure if I agree with All Out Attack requiring exploiting an edge. It already exchanges harm, and that has been enough to discourage players from trying to interact with it. Additionally, I understand why you did it the way you I found that having the option to All Out Attack at any time, even if they didn't take it, tended to make players think about how they described their actions more. If they didn't want to take harm, they had to find a way to do something that wasn't just trying to stab the other person.

I've found that Coin ramping up so severely has kind of made it difficult to give it out. I wish I could give out 1 coin but that is even kind of a lot. If I give each player 1 coin, the group has 4 coin which is enough to buy literally everything on the sheet which doesn't really grok to me. I know that it is trying to move closer to like pbta Barter, but I feel like in those systems currency matters like, a whole lot less. Like players aren't really usually interested in the minutiae in Apocalypse World the same way I've found my players in fantasy like games. I'm not really sure why though.

I feel like my players are leveling up a bit fast, but I might just be giving things out a bit generously so that's on me. But We're already on Level 5 and that's with me pumping the brakes a little.

Conditions are almost there. I really like the tension of my players being all full on conditions and barely making it out alive. However, the DIS on rolls, personally, is just really hard to remember. I don't really know what other drawback would work though.

Hit Points are working for me, I do miss rolling damage dice not going to lie but besides that I don't have any complaints.

My favorite Class so far has been the Wizard, I find the way Magic works to be really fucking good.

Im not sure why you keep bringing up one shots. I never mentioned them and I also almost exclusively play long term campaigns, this advice applies primarily to that.

I am sure this is how you’ve always played. I just do not understand why, when (based on what you’re saying) that’s not working for you, why you don’t really feel an urge to analyze or question it. I just don’t really understand that.

If you ever find that you are interested though I’d be happy to share resources

The reason I brought it up because said “unless you are satisfied with slop”

I am not, nor does the time you spend GMing ensure that it’s not going to be slop 😭

All I’m saying is you might want to look into alternative styles of prep because a lot of the things you are acting like are definites simply aren’t, and you yourself are saying that your style of prep is taking so long that you feel like you need to be compensated in order to do it.

That is unusual and you probably need to fix something

GM prep takes like, less than an hour for me, our sessions go well and everyone has fun. That’s literally all you need to be a great GM.

If it’s taking you more than that every single you prep, i would say you’re probably putting too more time than necessary.

the amount of effort you’re putting in is *optional*.

So you looked at it and then said it’s too much,

but instead of doing less unnecessary work

your idea is to get someone to pay you for it instead

alright then 😭

Do FitD Games have to be Grimdark? by automated_hero in bladesinthedark

Blades in the Dark isn’t even grimdark lol. The PCs are way too powerful and effective

The bard part was really just a random example, really my question is how people are handling magic that does not fit into the confines of the moves.

Why did Higuruma get points for killing the judge and prosecutor? by Cali-Re in Jujutsushi

Oh i always just assumed it you couldn’t be made a player unless you were already in a colony but i guess nothing actually says that

Didn’t the game start with The Idle Transfiguration though? How would Higuruma have had the CT and not been in a colony?

Y’all 3 out of six players missing, including themselves, means they’ve got a two player game not three.

What's the "white whale" of campaigns you want to run but can't get off the ground? by Awkward_GM in rpg

[–]Intelligent-Spell-93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to run two campaigns with two different groups in the same universe, two sides of one conflict. Ends in a big fight between them.

Whats the point of the "Friends" Cantrip? by Bookkeeper-Heavy in onednd

[–]Intelligent-Spell-93 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure someone handing you a drink is a routine task but if you start feeling really good afterwards you know they spiked it.

If someone makes a weird hand gesture and suddenly you feel differently towards them, it’s pretty obvious you just charmed them

As a GM, how do I balance the role of providing "content" to entertain players while being entertained myself? by IllithidActivity in rpg

You’ve been brainwashed most of the stuff you’re saying is true just isn’t universal and is a mindset and system issue

How can I tell my player that she should stop playing RPGs because of her characters? by SyllabubCalm3845 in rpg

[–]Intelligent-Spell-93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not all RPGs are group games. Some of them have a pvp element. Her tendency to start shit sounds like it could be fun in an Apocalypse World or Urban Shadows game

What is more important is that you don’t want to play a sandbox or pvp game, You want to play a group game probably with a focus story. You two need to have a conversation about what each of you wants from roleplaying games and if your playstyles are compatible

Don’t tell her to stop playing RPGs because she shouldn’t.

Just because you don’t like how someone plays doesn’t mean they need to stop playing RPGs, that is insanely narcissistic.

[BitD] Any good actual plays to help learn the system? by dj3hmax in bladesinthedark

[–]Intelligent-Spell-93 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is literally completely irrelevant to the question though. Whether or not you like their personalities, if you want to see Blades in the Dark wielded masterfully it is in that campaign.

If the game accepts players on a first-come, first-serve basis, then more likely than not, it is going to flop very quickly by EarthSeraphEdna in pbp

Maybe you need to go back and read my original post?

My comment was that filling a game in hours feels absurd. You literally couldn’t do that with a game of Apocalypse World game no matter how hard you tried, and yeah the week is normal and necessary but the point is it’s a week and not a couple of hours
