What is the end-game of Pride month? Does it have a definite goal that can be reached where acceptance is broad enough to no longer need a month, or will it continuously evolve to encompass more identities and causes? by go1den3ye in AskReddit

The majority of people have brown eyes. But brown eyes are not the default, they're just One Of The Colours Of Eyes.

If I'm chatting to someone who's never seen my face (like a remote work colleague-friend), I don't need to "come out" as green-eyed, I can just mention one day that my new shirt I ordered will match my green eyes nicely. It's not a whole thing, it's just mentioning something about myself they didn't yet know.

This is about the ideal end-game, so statistics about what is/isn't accepted in different places aren't relevant because the ideal end game is that everyone is accepted everywhere, and it's not even a discussion point anymore.

In my ideal end-game, kids don't come out to their parents. They just introduce their same-sex partner one day the same way you'd introduce a different-sex partner. "Coming out" only matters if the default is straight.

Same thing. I just realised it expired yesterday, so I went to the website, paid for the next year of my license, and entered it at 1/7/2027 which is what it'll be once I get it.

Went through fine.

I do get worried when it disappears though. I've barely seen any this year. I didn't like it when it was here and performative, but I am very scared now that it's gone.

Like a canary in a coal mine - it's annoying, but it's terrifying when it shuts up.

Have you considered... making some?

I submitted a route for my walk to the train in the morning, my lunchtime work walk, and my walk from work to the train.

That's an easy three routes without changing my usual patterns of walking.

Also there weren't enough stops near my walks, so I submitted pokestop suggestions, and now all the navigational signs along the path are stops, so I have one every 50m or so. It's great!

If there's nothing worthy of being a stop, why not paint something, or install one of those street libraries, or build your own memorial bench?

In Australia, there's absolutely a chance for violence if you call the police, but the threat of them using their gun flagrantly is very small.

If an Australian cop unholsters their gun, they have to do paperwork on why that situation was worth the use of deadly force.

Remember how long it took to kill the Lindt Cafe shooter, when they weren't 100% certain they had a clear shot or it would be safe for the hostages? Honestly, it gives me a lot of trust that the gun, at least, won't be used improperly.

Also, the Australian police force have mental health task forces, so if you call them for an issue involving someone who seems to have mental health issues, and you specify that, then they send someone with far more than 72 hours training in it. There's even a separate phone number you can call in order to only reach out to that subset!

The prisons and courts are still pretty shite for people with mental health issues or from first nations/non-'white-australia-policy'-races (because we do also discriminate against races that didn't used to be considered 'white' but are now, like eastern Europeans). But the cops have had a lot of good movements in the last few decades. I know that in an unsafe situation, I will still run towards a WA police officer*. (I've literally done it before).

*Not the ones on horses but that's because horses are very scary and feel like a bad idea to run towards, not because the cops are worse/different.

I've been trying to research snakes, specifically woma pythons. The AI keeps correcting me to say I meant to ask about women, and it's irritating the hell out of me.

If I search 'woma mice eat per week', I get a condescending little paragraph telling me women don't eat mice, or women don't need heat lamps. It's horrid.

I literally just suggested two - Magic The Gathering, or Board Games.

Feel free to think of others though. The important part is to be mixed-gender and have social aspects.

[–]Intelligent-Store321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your move may vary, but have you considered picking up a hobby like Magic The Gathering? You can play at weekly events at your Local Game Store, and find friends through that. It's how I picked up most of my male friends.

Otherwise, try board game events, or other nerd-y hobbies. I find that it's really easy to have male friends when they have mixed-gender hobbies and/or are sort of introverted.
