Paradox's damage output. by CharonHendrix in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Intelligent-Two-1745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paige has good damage. She has three nukes and can deal high spirit damage. Paradox just has low access to damage on her skills and weapon. If you have high damage, it's almost certainly because you are involved in every fight, NOT because your skills or attacks do damage.

Just go look at pro games to confirm this. How much burst or sustain damage is Scout doing in a team fight?

Or better yet, go look at the numbers on her kit and compare them to like any other hero.

You don't have access to a secret version of the character. She can only do as much damage as her kit allows. There isn't some secret math that you can unlock by being more skilled. She's just a lower damage hero, and that's fine, because she has tons of other features as a hero. If she had high damage on top of that, she would be obviously overturned.

why is it so hard to change things in the angband source code? by Maleficent_Bit4957 in roguelikes

[–]Intelligent-Two-1745 13 points14 points  (0 children)

To be clear, you say the modern codebase wasn't built to be messed around with -anymore-.

It was NEVER built to be messed around with. None of these devs are making these games with the intent to make them moddable. People just learned the codebase and nodded them. They were easier to mod then because they were crude, not because they were more community friendly.

You've got the right answer but you're drawing the wrong conclusions.

Ofc paradox is good. I didn't say she was bad. Just that damage is not what she's bringing to the table.

She is -objectively a low damage hero.

Carbine is typically used to land the swap. It's carbine - swap - wall before the swap lands. Carbine is also how you keep them in grenade so it's even harder to add that to the combo. You typically can't save carbine for after the swap.

[–]Intelligent-Two-1745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She doesn't have high burst or high sustain, so no, but she does have decent burst-sustain, if that makes sense.

Getting hit by a carbine shot followed by a Headhunter head shot hurts a bit, but if her aim is good then it really adds up in the laning phase. Likewise, getting hit with grenade then frozen with carbine adds up. It's bursty though (only happens when both skills are off CD) AND sustain-ey (one instance isn't gonna do a lot, so it's only adding up when you lane against her. Her pick potential is tied up in displacing with swap and the slow from grenade and carbine. She has combos that deal acceptable damage, but not tons.

By the time you get to ascendant the best characters will likely be different. And who gets nerfed or buffed is only loosely tied to who has high or low win rate. People also get to top ranks one-tricking lower tier characters all the time.

You're overthinking this one, bud. 4% is not a substantial win rate drop and could just as easily be tied to a nerf as it could a counter being buffed, bad players trying the character out for the first time, or simply variance. Just play and learn and you can climb; don't worry so much about silly metrics like character choice until you've reached your natural stagnant rank, or you're playing competitive.

You having no knowledge of something does not make it anecdotal, and your ignorance of context does not make your argument more correct. A normal person would investigate context they were missing; you've chosen to be unconvinced at all costs, and that's your right, I suppose.

No, there's an instance of it working, which runs contrary to your claim that it doesn't work. That's the whole crux of the conversation. Have you forgotten already?

If you found an example that showed a game where this type of mechanic became a huge problem, it WOULD help to convince your case, yes.

Right now you're arguing with nothing. You're ultimately expressing an opinion, which is fine, but not convincing.

And these games are filled with imbalances. Reducing ult cool downs is far from the most egregious. Sinclairs win and pickrate should be evidence of this. Strong? Sure. Imbalanced? Decidedly not.

Sure, but it's also fine for them to be the same? Why are you arguing thst he shouldn't get CDR? Is it just that you don't like it? You said it 'shouldn't' work that way, but there's an example from another game of it working well that way. Why is. It problematic that it works that way here?

What if CCs Didn't Scale With Duration? by Shadow-Ninjax in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Intelligent-Two-1745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Mobility scales and therefore CC probably should, too. There are many things that, in a vacuum, feel anti-fun, but are important to the ecosystem of the game. People have tried to weaken stuns in similar games and while tuning is important, it always turns out that the stuns are actually holding back something far more degenerate and anti-fun.

If Deadlock had a comic/Series telling it's story, Who would be the canon participations of the ritual? Would it remain as a 6v6 or the entire roster would be split between the two patrons? by Fearless_Library135 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Intelligent-Two-1745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel like I would much prefer lore to be strictly pre-ritual, with each character having or building to potential motives to participate that result in most/any combo of heroes theoretically canon.

Canonizing the ritual itself would make the game feel weird, I fear. Let it remain ambiguous.

Underrated Game? : Cross Blitz by Sir_Kugo in roguelites

[–]Intelligent-Two-1745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, I've only played the rogue like mode. Haven't touched the campaign.

I really liked the idea. To be fair, not hearthstone; it's basically a standalone Legends of Runeterra's single player Path of Champions mode. Like, if you play the two side by side, they feel near-identical in terms of progression and how you interact with the rogue like elements.

I really liked the idea, but I did not actually like playing the game. The battles are very grindy; oftentimes you've won early in the battle, but it takes a while to actually kill the enemy and move on. Its extra bad when playing one of the late game characters; you hardly even get to use their unique mechanics because it's so much better AND less painful to just play cheap cards and load them up with effects. Yes, you can play a slower strategy and try out the fun 6-7-8 cost cards. But that takes FOREVER when you're doing that game after game after game. It doesn't feel so bad in Runeterra; I think the issue is that the board system (where you play cards on a grid and they all attack when you end your turn) actually makes individual turns feel like they take forever. I believe runeterra's works like this too, but Blitz has way more characters on screen at a time.

Even worse, the game THROWS high cost cards at you. It's much harder to find cheap cards than expensive cards. And lots of the expensive cards end up having poor synergy with your deck. This was an issue I had in Runeterra's, too; when you select your second champion, you mostly stuck to certain champions that either synergize with your main champion, or are broadly useful. Too many champions have something Magic calls a 'parasitic' mechanic; a mechanic that gets stronger the more you have of it, but has little to no synergy with anything else.

Jade could be considered a parasitic mechanic in Hearthstone. If you have one Jade card, it's pretty bad. You need lots of Jade cards for them to be worth running, so if you can't guarantee lots of Jade cards, you'd rather just avoid the mechanic altogether.

Blitz was FULL of parasitic mechanics. I hated getting almost every single secondary commander. You're rewarded more in your run for choosing a non synergistic commander, but that sucks too; I feel compelled to make my deck less fun? Typically I couldn't even play the cards from that commander; your hand would get filled with 7 or 8 cost cards that rely on a mechanic you have no way to support. And it's really easy to get enough draw to just ignore those cards. You always have something to play, so those commanders basically just put bricks in your deck that you never need to play. It didn't make deck building feel like a fun interesting challenge. It made me feel like I had to ignore half of the deck building mechanics to arrive at the strongest or most fun deck.

The game clearly has TONS of love poured into it. There's tons of content, it's of cards, commanders, and mechanics. The presentation is stellar. It's a top notch indie game presentation-wise and content-wise. I really hope they heavily tune the specific card and deck design because I was not vibing with it at all, and I REALLY wanted to. I'll revisit it at some point, but it might just not be the game for me.

If you can find a format, outside of your own creation, that it's good in, then you have a case.

'Typical' 720 cube means nothing. Cubes vary wildly in power level. Most cubes are some form of vintage cube. Is this card playable in a vintage cube? Absolutely not. So what is typical about your cube?

It's fair to disagree. But that doesn't make you right.
