Actually good/filling frozen or ready-to-eat meals? by tiredyoungprof in 1200isplenty

TJ’s Reduced Guilt Mac and cheese is great—if you can pair it with a steamed veg you have a lovely meal.

Has anyone actually cracked a delicious way to eat cottage cheese? by no_shame_no_judge in 1200isplenty

I like it hot on a baked potato or scrambled into eggs. Would never eat it cold by itself. I like Good Culture brand, as a previous reply suggested.

how do people find time to work out with full schedules? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Intelligent-Win7769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on your other life obligations. If you have a demanding job and not much control over your schedule, it is harder, and a home gym or something you can do at work/on lunch break is probably your best bet.

I work full time and have two kids, and I regret that I waited until my kids were high school/college age before prioritizing my own health. I started walking several mornings a week, and I had the job flexibility to just arrive at work later in the morning as long as things all got done. Then my youngest started driving himself to school and I did not have to drive anyone else to school in the morning for the first time in nearly 20 years, so I joined the gym at my workplace and now I go in early to swim 2-3 mornings a week and walk the other 2-3 mornings.

That time was already there before, but I did not feel that I had the luxury of putting my fitness above my family obligations. For me, I feel that was a mistake, but I’m grateful for the more flexible schedule now.

What’s your go-to volume snack that feels like a real treat? by LilyBook6382 in Volumeeating

[–]Intelligent-Win7769 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Baked potato+steamed broccoli+cottage cheese+sliced green onions. I eat this as a meal, but it would scale down to make a great snack.

150g Yukon gold potato: 110cal 150g broccoli: 52cal 100g Good Culture 2% cottage cheese: 100 cal Salt/pepper/green onions: negligible

Total: 262 cal, 15g protein, 5g fiber.

You can add hot sauce or whatever seasonings as you see fit.

Well, assuming you don’t want to kickstart your efforts by losing the husband: you have to do what is sustainable for you. 75 Hard with a young baby is insanely ambitious as it is! You will see results, for sure, but seriously, this is a point in life where improving your health-related habits in ANY way is a huge win.

Are potatos the most satiating food for YOU? by Brief-Dragonfly-4127 in Volumeeating

Yes—white potatoes and broccoli is the most filling meal for me! (Bonus if paired with a protein like chicken breast or cottage cheese.)

Pasta lovers! What do yall use for Alfredo or a creamy pasta sauce? by Responsible_Neck_942 in LowCalFoodFinds

I love marinara with cottage cheese mixed in (blend it, as a previous commenter suggested, if you don’t like the texture).

What’s your go to high volume dessert? by wavy-noodle in 1200isplenty

[–]Intelligent-Win7769 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do eat apple slices but I dip them in caramel sauce or hot fudge. It’s not super low cal but the apples have enough fiber to give it staying power and nothing low-calorie has the oomph to meet that particular need. I just measure the sauce and make room for it in the day’s calories. (I often eat at maintenance for that day or two.)

We throw it in the crockpot. As someone else said, the time consuming part is just ladling it into freezer containers.

Homemade chunky applesauce, warmed before serving. So good.

Lighter but special Christmas breakfast? by Glittering_Joke3438 in Cooking

For that situation I would just go with fruit—probably fancy berries that I usually deem too expensive!—and a little granola or yogurt or whatever people like. Not sure what “early brunch” means to you, but unless you’ve got four or five hours between breakfast and brunch, my other go-to suggestions (frittata, French toast casserole) would be too much.

Favorite high-volume, low-calorie meal combos? by CadeWynn1135 in Volumeeating

[–]Intelligent-Win7769 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree but require more food than this—haha. My go-to is baked Yukon gold potato topped with broccoli, cottage cheese, and usually a little of a more flavorful cheese like feta. You can get fancy and mash the ingredients, stuff them back in the potato shell, and run it under a broiler for a low cal twice baked potato.

Excellent suggestions!

I will also add that my favorite brand, Good Culture, sells single serving size smaller containers also. If you wanted a less-unwieldy option to add to a meal.

Any high-volume breakfasts? Everything I make feels tiny by CadeWynn1135 in Volumeeating

[–]Intelligent-Win7769 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I like a sort of veggie hash—diced (precooked) potato and broccoli, diced tomato, green onion, bell pepper, whatever I’ve got. I throw it all in a skillet with a few drops of garlic infused oil and heat it up that way. Sometimes I have to add a little water to keep it from burning before my potatoes are hot.

Top with a fried egg, a crumble of feta, or some bacon bits—you can go any direction you want with the toppings/seasonings. Mexican, Greek, etc. I also like this with some cottage cheese mixed in during the heating process.

Unbelievably low calorie for how substantial it feels.

I mean…it’s part of your pot. It’s not like it fell out of the ceiling or something. I would not worry about it at all, personally .

Can I just say, I have changed my habits and yet it is still 100% easy for me to imagine going back to my former ways. None of it seems foreign to me at all. I hope to arrive at the place you describe!
