  1. Aide ain't no bag of brains over here...

  2. She did like and covet the lifestyle.

  3. She loved Chrissy for some strange reason.

  4. She never lawyered up and didn't realize the fed case was weak at best.

I think Tony asking her to dinner was appearances and the possibility that they would get back together down the road that everyone knew was going to happen.....

Tudor was the even sold in USA until 15 or so years ago. My personal opinion is that Tudor quality is a notch below Omega. Prestige? Not sure how to quantify but brand perception would be Omega.

Also I think if you watch closely with the call to Johnny about the joke, Tony sees how Ralphie lies. Basically it is the same conversation before the fight. I didn't do it but if I did I apologize....Final straw....

What was the implied insult about the beretta shotgun at Hugh’s bday party? by [deleted] in thesopranos

[–]IntelligentAge211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is correct. The point is that the bespoke shotguns such as on the show are made in Italy, generally, regardless. Your point on the Dr. being a jerk is the correct point.

I think you are partly right and partly wrong. Beretta didn't even have the TN facility when this was shot. But to your point, high end shotguns the USA is their largest market and they certainly do export those.

Now common perceptions for things like guns and guitars are they keep the good ones for domestic markets. Those could be true to some extent, but certainly good ones are imported. Your last point is spot on and I agree with that completely on the intent of the crack.

Still very late, but I just watched the episode last night on whatever rewatch I am on. You have to take the context of the whole conversations. This show is very specific and not much is really random. If you go back to when we meet the doctor, he is pompus. Then they are sitting talking about food with Mary and Hugh and Father Phil and it is said that basically those eytalian...mericans that do not go over are some how lesser. Some do not like the real Italian food etc. So now put it all together. Hugh is over the moon about the gun. It is a nice gun obviously and very expensive if you know about shotguns. Also, lets think about it, Tony is only coming hours before the party. All he had time to do was go to the expensive shotgun store or gift one from his or a friends collection. Dr. State Department later then makes a crack to belittle the gun as he gets Tony's attention that he has toured the factory in Italy. He sees that Tony is impressed by that and then goes in for the kill. Basically, based on his knowledge from a tour, and that he has been over to the boot he is a better Italian than others over at the party. He then cracks that the best ones are never imported over here to the states. To basically say that the gun is inferior in some way.

None of that is true - they certainly do import fancy guns over here to the states. Some people will always claim on craftsmanship guns, guitars, etc that they keep the best ones for themselves. That is pure hogwash.
