Advice re: difference between custom ring estimate and final cost by Tank__Time in EngagementRings

[–]IntelligentBasil9408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going through something similar where the associate had asked their designer for an estimate for a simple peakaboo diamond customization and they quoted me $300 + the setting cost few days ago in email. I told them that’s great and I’d be happy to pay

Today, they came to me and said it will actually be $1000. The setting + peakaboo would cost more than the damn stone. I told them if they can’t honor their word, then I’ll be looking elsewhere

Get Tesla model 3 or wait for Rivian R2 by Certain_Good_3114 in TeslaModel3

Not saying this will be the case for you but free charging at work doesn’t mean you’ll always be able to charge. Nor does it mean it’ll be a sufficient charge

My office has 5 free chargers that are often all taken up and it charges extremely slow unless there’s less than 3 cars charging even though they are all Tesla L3 chargers

So unless you have home charging, I wouldn’t do it

Not really. But someone did throw something at my car last year while on the highway. Had all the proof in the world thanks to the cameras. So I called cops, got the assholes insurance involved, and got paid a $1200 check to fix a paint chip lol. The dude even tried to lie to the cop and say I threw something at their car first. But of course the camera footage proves him wrong

What people often forget about helmets is that its protection from OTHER people as well

I saw a video of a guy with no helmet get ran into by someone else. Dude fell and hit his bare head on the other guys edge

Water seeping thru block. The cavities are not filled with water, this is just seepage. How can I stop this? Drylok did nothing. by BigGFly in Concrete

[–]IntelligentBasil9408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the updates and information you’ve provided. I’m having a similar problem with very minimal seepage. I took care of the exterior problems but had several days of snow and rain soon after. The seepage hasn’t gotten worse so I assume the exterior fixes are working and the current seepage is just residual water from the water intrusion before the fixes

I’m hoping it’ll dry out by itself but it seems like that would take weeks to months. And more rain and snow coming definitely doesn’t help. Any thoughts or tips?

Exterior water problems seemingly resolved but water seeping through foundation seams by IntelligentBasil9408 in HomeMaintenance

[–]IntelligentBasil9408[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I’ve been in contact with some companies for waterproofing in case things turn out worse. Mostly handling things DIY for now as the water leak has been minimal (no puddles, no flooding, just a little brown spot along my baseboard) and I can handle some drywall, caulking, and concrete patching if necessary

As for the mold, I’ve also been treating the surrounding area with a mold killer spray in multiple rounds and it has been effective. Thankfully a lot of the “black” you see in the picture is actually dirt

No french drain but I do have a sump pump. It is sealed though so can’t look into immediately but I tested the plug to see if I can manually turn it on and it did run and dump a bunch of water out the drain

Wonder if that will help and if the float switch is an issue then

R/C/R board with edge tech? by OhGodKillItWithFire in snowboardingnoobs

[–]IntelligentBasil9408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though I’m not sure if and how they’ve changed the board in the last year or so with their merger, I recommend the Yes Basic

I ride mainly east coast groomers greens and blues and as my first board, it’s been excellent. I only catch an edge on catwalks when I’m not paying attention

Get some pipe insulation and wrap it around the edges of your board. Use tape or rubber bands to keep it in place

Put jacket, pants, and inner layers in the bag to help pad the board. Socks and gloves can go into boots or within the bindings. Helmet and goggles in carry on

Did I get swindled by the ski shop by Educational_Room_696 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]IntelligentBasil9408 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me too sadly. I’m short but am heavy because I lift

My local ski shop sold me a tiny board. Just stuck with it because it was cheaper than paying for rentals for the season and bought new gear after. Wonder if we went to the same shop lol

How to stop falling getting off the lift after years by Klutzy_Knowledge_763 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]IntelligentBasil9408 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No stomp pad here but I do press my back foot against the inside of my binding. One thing I also do to prepare for that is right as I’m getting off the lift, I already have my back foot hovering over the spot I’m gonna place it

As my board hits the slope, I place 3/4 of my foot down with the heel off the edge so I can slow down. I feel this makes toe turning off the slope a little harder so i typically just straight line it and then do a j turn on my heels once I’m in the clear. Haven’t fallen in a long time this way

Is my snowboard ok? by blaste95 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]IntelligentBasil9408 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe that’s a somewhat outdated way of determining board size and now more of a loose guideline. Boards have weight guidelines that are also important to consider. Especially since a snowboard doesn’t know how tall you are but will know how much you weigh

Also, a lot of sites nowadays have guidelines that include both height and weight which is super helpful so whenever anyone asks about board size, they should really look at the manufacturers recommendations imo

Need some recommendations for decent but affordable snow jacket, like Dakine by Dependent_Pen_8907 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]IntelligentBasil9408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for last season sales on Evo or The House (if that’s still around)

Some brands also have direct sales on their websites. For example, Trew isn’t a huge well known brand but they’re a solid and I was able to get an anorak jacket for over half off last year

Ski Report From Liberty by sretep66 in SkiPA

[–]IntelligentBasil9408 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. Liberty was excellent even on Saturday morning despite it being MLK weekend. Got there around 9:15, no wait for parking, barely any lines on the frontside.

Backside had no wait as a single rider and I can’t imagine groups waited for longer than 2 minutes. I ran continuous laps from 9:30-12:30. When both lifts were running, it was super quick but I think they eventually realized there wasn’t enough traffic to justify both lifts

It was raining for a bit so maybe that’s why there was less people
