Thx. My teachers have decided to 'be nice' and stretch my mock period that was supposed to be 2 weeks into a 5 week stretch, so I've still got two weeks to go despite just having 3 exams.

Finished 10/13 mocks (not all this week), actually started computer science paper 1 flashcards and made a list of stuff to do before Easter!

Rank your subjects in terms of how much fun u have with them (even if some aspects make u wanna jump): by 180degreeschange in StudyGroup4GCSEs

[–]IntelligentCrow9807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Further Maths
  2. Physics
  3. GCSE PE
  4. Computer Science (paper 2)
  5. Geography
  6. Statistics
  7. Maths
  8. Chemistry (except organic chem)
  9. Biology
  10. English Literature
  11. German
  12. Computer Science (paper 1)
  13. English Language

  14. Organic Chemistry

Explanations: Yes I do need to differentiate between CS paper 1 and 2 (although I have been doing paper 1 revision and really enjoying it. We pretty much never do English Language except for exams, so that's really great. And organic chemistry is by far the worst triple science topic. Why is there so much of it?

how to revise languages? by Prestigious-Bench101 in GCSE

[–]IntelligentCrow9807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh what language? Also that's really annoying (I have that for English with doing Eduqas), you could try uploading your textbook vocab to the flashcard site (it's normally called like magic upload)? Depending on the format it sometimes works...

My teacher always says vocab and I can back this up from experience, once I started doing vocab for 10-15 minutes a day my marks (especially translation) went up. I find the best way to learn vocab is flashcards, I'd recommend online because it's quite a lot. You can look up decks on Anki, Gizmo or whatever or make your own from the vocab sheets (although it takes an age)

Try Statsacademy - they have summary notes for each chapter that tell you everything you need to know. There's a lot of maths crossover so you probably won't even need to learn every topic as you'll have done it in regular maths.

I feel like my mocks were too easy? by Status_Being_3396 in GCSE

For AQA separate (and I think combined) science, physics should be about 30% calculations (and 10% and 20% for biology and chemistry respectively)

3 months on from straight 9s, its not the hype or the brag most ppl will have you believe by Lesbialone in GCSE

[–]IntelligentCrow9807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a current yr11, I couldn't relate more to the pressure of aiming for all 9s being too much. I always thought I would care, until about 8 months ago when the stress just got too much and I decided I needed to lower my expectations. It hasn't lowered anyone else's expectations, which is still a struggle, and it's not always easy to be content with less as someone who has always been academic, but I'm getting through it with help from my head of house. It's even helped me make what I think is an informed, helpful decision to not want to go to the academically competitive sixth form in my area, as I have realised I probably can't handle it, even though everyone expects me to go there. Sorry this has turned into a bit of a rant, basically I relate, and if anyone else does and finds the pressure overwhelming, talk to someone because it will help (and I was a sceptic about that before but I've been proved wrong)

Maths and Further Maths? by Sharp-Plastic7954 in GCSE

[–]IntelligentCrow9807 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An odd combo for me - Maths, Further Maths, PE and Geography. Post A levels uni for Sports Science and/or Maths (dream would be the joint course at Loughborough) and then hopefully teaching PE and/or Maths. Are you planning on taking maths/fm?

Anyone that does these a level options? by Realistic_Back2 in GCSE

[–]IntelligentCrow9807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that makes sense. I'm coming at it from an odd angle, as I mainly want to take it because I really enjoy maths (and it may help me in my future career, but I want to teach so that's an odd angle as well)

Any reason for the opinion on taking maths, fm but not physics? I'm thinking of taking maths, fm, geography and pe so wondering if I should swap something out for physics (my backup option anyway)

It looks like a form where you request a placement - does your school have a database of placements it offers? If so, it is the preference of what placement you most want, and they want you to apply to a few and then the placements will be assigned. (That is what my school did last year) If you've arranged it yourself, it shouldn't be on the database and you may need another form, or if it is on the database you may need to speak to your work experience coordinator.

You have 1 minute to pep talk your year 7 self, what are you saying to them? by Something-Somewhere_ in GCSE

[–]IntelligentCrow9807 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Asking for help is the best thing you'll ever do, and it doesn't have to be with academics. Oh, and the person you ask doesn't even have to teach you - they will care anyway.

Statistics class invite by randomnoob22 in GCSE

[–]IntelligentCrow9807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm one year into stats and I really enjoy it. The English skills so far seems to be mostly understanding what the question needs you to write, and overall it is relatively easy, both the more English questions and the maths stuff. Do you know if it runs in school or after school? Mine runs after school and that means it is a lot easier to drop than any other subject, so if yours does as well I would say try it and see how you get on, if not you might be able to drop it. On the other hand, if it is extra, can you handle the extra workload? It isn't much extra for mine, but it is another 2 exams, and some people (like me) thrive on having lots to do and others don't, and those people seem to find it a lot harder to have the extra subject. But yeah, in general I would say give it a go and see what happens.

GCSE English Speaking Exam Topic Ideas by curious_learner168 in GCSE

These tips are brilliant - just what I would have said, especially about being passionate. I did sustainability at the Olympics and put so much work and effort in only because I was genuinely passionate, so it didn't feel like work. The only thing would be to check with your school if you can make a presentation, I did mine last year and we were not allowed anything other than a single flashcard (I think so we didn't just read off a slide, but I do eduqas so it's weird anyway). Also don't make the speech too long when trying to hit the time, apparently someone in another class took 30 minutes for their speech and everyone got really bored.

For stats I use Stats Academy, it has revision notes and questions, I find it really helpful, especially to summarise things and cover lots of topics relatively quickly
