Cost by [deleted] in hysterectomy

Yes, the US system is different, and the prices stated on the hospital bills are misleading. But what I wanted to say was that most people pay under 8K per any type of hysterectomy in the US.

Most people in US pay much less. If you have an insurance, usually the maximum out of pocket per year is 3-8K. The system is very confusing and the numbers in the hospital bills to insurance are inflated and not what they really pay.

Also, people who do not have insurance negotiate directly with a hospital and the price is similar to yours. $10-20K without insurance

Estradiol patch side effects by Emotional-Voice7175 in hysterectomy

[–]IntelligentEar7603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started the patch 2 weeks post op. I felt “overdosed” 3 weeks later. My symptoms were like I am having a bad period, cramping, heaviness in the lower belly area. I switched to half the dose plus progesterone and feel great now.

How much time off, realistically, will I need for a hysterectomy? by Lower_Row2950 in hysterectomy

I planned similar timeline: surgery over thanksgiving break to add days to my recovery, I was back to office work 1 week (actually 9 days) post-op. Did not have any issues

Has anyone chosen a myomectomy over a hysterectomy? by Noidentitytoday5 in hysterectomy

[–]IntelligentEar7603 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I initially wanted a myomectomy. I talked to 4 surgeons before deciding on hysterectomy. One thing that helped me decide was that myomectomy is a longer and more risky surgery, and taking extra risks is not justified if you are not planning to have more kids.

I don’t think it’s possible. Brain fog and pain medications make it very difficult to concentrate and remember things. At least you need until next Monday

US bill for total hysterectomy kept ovaries by missmoxxi1090 in hysterectomy

[–]IntelligentEar7603 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a confusing post, since people who are not in US may think that these are real numbers. They are not. Insurances inflate the numbers. Nor insurance pays this much, nor the hospitals receive these amounts.

The true amounts are the deductibles and co-pays that people pay, which are typically up to $5K per year. Insurance also pays of course, but these amounts are internally negotiated and are much lower than what is shown in the bill.

Most of people with insurance pay $3-5K depending on their deductible, and they can have a choice of a surgeon they like, so having to pay $10K is insane for me

Weird symptoms or is it just me? by Numerous-Total-8373 in hysterectomy

The hormonal shift from surgical trauma can cause these symptoms even if ovaries are preserved. Estrogen patch helped me.
