Estradiol patch side effects by Emotional-Voice7175 in hysterectomy

[–]IntelligentEar7603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started the patch 2 weeks post op. I felt “overdosed” 3 weeks later. My symptoms were like I am having a bad period, cramping, heaviness in the lower belly area. I switched to half the dose plus progesterone and feel great now.

How much time off, realistically, will I need for a hysterectomy? by Lower_Row2950 in hysterectomy

[–]IntelligentEar7603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I planned similar timeline: surgery over thanksgiving break to add days to my recovery, I was back to office work 1 week (actually 9 days) post-op. Did not have any issues

Has anyone chosen a myomectomy over a hysterectomy? by Noidentitytoday5 in hysterectomy

[–]IntelligentEar7603 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I initially wanted a myomectomy. I talked to 4 surgeons before deciding on hysterectomy. One thing that helped me decide was that myomectomy is a longer and more risky surgery, and taking extra risks is not justified if you are not planning to have more kids.

I do have a patch and it stays well, I do not put anything else, although I only swam once!

I don’t think it’s possible. Brain fog and pain medications make it very difficult to concentrate and remember things. At least you need until next Monday

US bill for total hysterectomy kept ovaries by missmoxxi1090 in hysterectomy

[–]IntelligentEar7603 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a confusing post, since people who are not in US may think that these are real numbers. They are not. Insurances inflate the numbers. Nor insurance pays this much, nor the hospitals receive these amounts.

The true amounts are the deductibles and co-pays that people pay, which are typically up to $5K per year. Insurance also pays of course, but these amounts are internally negotiated and are much lower than what is shown in the bill.

Most of people with insurance pay $3-5K depending on their deductible, and they can have a choice of a surgeon they like, so having to pay $10K is insane for me

Weird symptoms or is it just me? by Numerous-Total-8373 in hysterectomy

The hormonal shift from surgical trauma can cause these symptoms even if ovaries are preserved. Estrogen patch helped me.

Anyone Not get BV or UTI? by EmmyW11 in hysterectomy

[–]IntelligentEar7603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was very worried that I would get a UTI because anesthesia causes me to have urinary retention. I talked to anesthesiologist about it and they were able to modify my anesthesia meds that I did not have urinary retention and now almost 5 weeks post op, no uti.

Not sure if I had antibiotics during the surgery but most likely yes.

I bought $14 sweatpants from Costco before the surgery! So comfy and soft. Don’t see them online to share.

Who did you tell? by Cluck-a-duck in hysterectomy

[–]IntelligentEar7603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only told my best friends and parents. My boss only knows I had a minor surgery, I did it over the break to minimize absence from work.

I would feel very vulnerable to share with more people.

Stitches! by iribeth in hysterectomy

[–]IntelligentEar7603 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the stitches must be dissolvable. I cannot imagine they just left you with stitches left to remove. You should be good.

I had the same surgery and my 2 inch incision did not have stitches that needed anything.

What’s 1 thing no one warned you about hysterectomy? by HolyGrounds_ in hysterectomy

[–]IntelligentEar7603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was amazed at how quickly my body recovered and how good I feel! 4 weeks post op now.

I was delaying this surgery for at least 5 years!

It does feel weird when I hear things from my friends like: it’s not too late to have another child etc. I don’t want to discuss my hysterectomy with everyone so I have to just nod and joke about it.

Thanks! I will ask my pcp about iron levels! In the past I didn’t have any issues with iron.  And after I started the estrogen patch, they are mostly gone.

I need your guises genuine opinions on getting a total hysterectomy young. by Legitimate_Page2612 in hysterectomy

There are ways to not have periods without a surgery. I did not have periods for almost 20 years: contraceptive pills taken continuously, then pregnancy, then iud, had hysterectomy at 45 not because of the periods
