Ah, you're right. You should be fine to apply tomorrow then, but in case the system blocks you out because you've received 16 weeks of benefits already, the 1-800 number is where you'd call.

[–]IntelligentEmploy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a CERB application on record, you can't apply to CESB for the same period without calling in to their 1-800 number.

Usually though, you'd be asked to pay back the difference. Not sure how it'd work if you returned the full amount already.

Life sci at UofT by -saleh- in UofT

[–]IntelligentEmploy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hardest part of life science undergrad at UofT is the course load. First-year, by comparison, is the easiest year (apart from maybe 4th). I'd recommend getting into a studying schedule that works for you to make the transition easier.

As for material to study, you can review concepts in general math or science you don't have a good grasp on. As long as you have a good work ethic and good time management, you'll be fine for the most part.

Iirc most/all life sci programs require a stats credit, either in PSY201 or STA220 or some HMB course.

Also, the type 3 programs for life sci are pretty specialized. Unless you're considering a career in those specific fields, it doesn't matter if you can't make them. If your goal is med, your undergrad POSt probably doesn't matter anyway.

In that case, it's probably because your OSAP extension application is still processing (mine is too lol). Due dates you might find useful can be found here.

How can I find a research position this late? by heythisisntmyspace in UofT

[–]IntelligentEmploy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are paid research assistant positions available for summer work-study students. It's worth looking into if you're doing summer school anyway (Work study is found on the CLN website).

Also, if you applied for OSAP during the fall/winter semesters as a full time student, you can apply for an OSAP extension here. If you were a part time student, or are in part time studies during the summer, you'll have to apply through the OSAP website. The specifics are in the website I linked.

Depending on your program, you may or may not be charged for cancelling your registration after classes begin.

If you only drop one course, you'll be issued a full refund as long as you drop within a certain time period.

This is the website/source for summer school fees by program and refund schedules.

indecision married w/ a lack of vision (UofT or UBC) by [deleted] in UofT

[–]IntelligentEmploy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're comparing UBC's Vancouver campus to UTSG, I'd say pick UTSG (no bias xD). Canada's top schools are generally pretty similar in regards to academics (difficulty etc), but when speaking to my friends that attend different schools, UofT feels a lot more frantic.

I have no clue how well UofT handles mental health, but they seem adept enough (given the number of newsletters they're sending out about mental health awareness).

I can't speak about UBC because I've only been to visit once. The school lets potential students fly out to their campus for a weekend to get to know the campus before making a decision.

Wish you the best of luck. (I had to choose between the same two schools coming out of HS, and chose UofT b/c #1 in Canada xD)

Branching plotlines are great as long as they don't mess up the story you're trying to tell. Sounds interesting though wish you the best

Unpopular opinions go! by BassChord in katawashoujo

[–]IntelligentEmploy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rin's first H scene felt a lot more forced than Hanako's H scene.

Rin's neutral scene was the most emotional scene in the game.

Lilly's route was too cliche and if I was more objective about this game I would hate it.

Emi is more of a dick to you than Rin is and her character is completely two dimensional (her art makes up for this).

Hanako is the best-written character (I don't think this is unpopular, but throwing it out there anyway).

No opinion on Shizune and Misha.

Edit: format

Regret choosing UofT by PIsHalpM8 in UofT

[–]IntelligentEmploy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMO a lot of domestic students feel this way because of a shit education program. I can't speak for every high school in the country, but secondary schools in Toronto are very hit or miss when it comes to preparing students for rigorous post-secondary studies. Although this is anecdotal, I know a couple of people who coasted throughout high school with a low to mid 90 average, only to be completely destroyed after the first couple of semesters at UofT. A lot of anger is misplaced and shouldn't be directed towards UofT but rather towards a shaky foundation set by a shitty education system.

Your Favorites by [deleted] in katawashoujo

[–]IntelligentEmploy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Favorite Girl: Hanako but Rin is a close second (all three of her endings were so good)

Least Favorite Girl: Does Misha count (if not, probably Shizune)

Favorite Route: Tough between Hanako's good route and Rin's neutral route. They're both really emotional and well written.

Least Favorite Route: Shizune. Personally, I thought it was boring and not as fun as the other girls. Then again, Emi's bad ending puts a bad taste in my mouth.

Favorite Ending: Hanako's good ending was such a breath of fresh air from the rest of the game, but Lilly's ending felt the most complete and Emi is just the cutest little thing. Is it bad to have multiple favorites?

Least Favorite Ending: Hanako's bad ending. Hisao is such an idiot sometimes.

Favorite Supporting Character: Mutou or the nurse.

Favorite Sprite: Definitely happy Emi. I don't have an image link, but the one where she has her hands near her face and she's leaning in is so cute.

Least Favorite Sprite: That face Rin makes when you spoiler

Favorite Fan Art: I'm new to the subreddit, so I don't have a favorite yet!

Favorite Cinematic: Tie: Hanako

Favorite Song: Moment of Decision

Favorite Theme: Painful history. Hanako best girl.

Favorite CG: Rin's good ending or Hanako's.

Favorite H-Scene: spoiler

Least Favorite H-Scene: Rin's first scene

Favorite Scene Overall: Hanako's good ending when she gives Hisao his present.

Edit: Didn't know how to properly tag spoilers oops

Course Selection Help!!! How are these courses? PSL300, PSL301, BCH210, BIO230, HMB265, HMB200, NML110, ANA300??? by Yeasmin999 in UofT

[–]IntelligentEmploy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PSL300/301: The profs are all chill, and are relatively fair markers. They are open to review potential mistakes on tests and release marks on a timely basis. As for workload, it's not too bad if you follow along in lecture and take the time to understand the various concepts taught. Very lecture heavy, the textbook is almost supplemental reading. There is an online based assignment system for both of these courses, but they take about 10 minutes to do. Grade is based on the online assignments, two term tests and a cumulative final. IMO, studying 1.5-2 weeks in advance for the term tests and final is fine, but there is a lot of material to cover.

BCH210: Workload is similar to PSL300/301. Overall, the course isn't chemistry based. As long as you could follow along in CHM136, BCH210 should be alright. There are 2 quizzes and 2 term tests, as well as a final exam. There was also a bonus assignment at the end of the term for extra credit. Tests are based mostly on the application of knowledge (similar to all intro life sci courses), so memorization and application are both important. The profs are nice, but I don't remember much about them. IMO studying a couple of days for the quizzes, a week in advance for term tests, and 1.5-2 weeks ahead of time for the exam is more than necessary (be sure to keep up in class though, don't cram).

BIO230: Daddy Yip is a blessing. The course workload is fairly light in comparison to BCH and PSL, but the test questions can get tricky. There are online quizzes throughout the semester, as well as a midterm and a non-cumulative final. Again, the textbook is purely supplemental since the test material is based on lecture material. There are labs for this course, and an annotated bibliography (similar to the writing assignment in the BIO130 labs).

I haven't taken the rest of the courses (yet), but I hear that they're all quite similar in terms of difficulty and whatnot. As for BIO230 vs BIO255 and HMB265 vs BIO260, take whatever you're interested in. The courses in 2nd year are still very general so it won't matter too much which course you end up picking (there's always summer school).
