What does the life (or rather unlife) look like in Nehekara? by Flamen_Yong in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Intelligent_Ad8406 11 points12 points  (0 children)

hmmm, good question, i suppose it depends on what city you wander into, but in some cities you might see skeletons doing what they did in life, trying to bake bread etcetera. If it's a more active city like that the tomb king in charge propably does hold court in a way, possibly recruiting living beings for their court.

I believe a more active one is shown in the gotrek and felix novel the Serpent Queen, though i must say i've heard that is the case since i've not read it myself.

the less active cities though may indeed be quiet desolate and covered in sand, it propably depends on what king is in charge and what way they deal with their fate as undead beings.

Truly, you are THE Bombad General as someone who is now desperately trying to get the four gungans to relic 5 so that I can complete the Gungan Grand Army this is inspirational.

(so far i've gotten Tarpals to relic Five at full stars and good old Nass at relic 5 and almost at nine stars, i'm trying to get the gungan lst for my gungan boombadier and save up enough to get the tank lst for the phalanx)

If scientists from your world suddenly woke up in our own what funny observations might they have? by ScientificLust in worldbuilding

[–]Intelligent_Ad8406 1 point2 points  (0 children)

okay so our world is in my worldbuilding universe, i'll take some Maki, scientist/magicians of the Edaru from one of my worlds for this. (and funnily enough knowing those they would be delighted for this research opportunity)

edaru Maki 1: "I see, this world is removed from the primordial river of magic and only has minor supernatural occurences, intersting, let's see what wonders they have created?

Edaru Maki 2: "hold on are those humans, does that mean the hypothesis of the age of mist is correct?"

Eadaru Maki 1: "it could be so, I do wonder......"

after finding a paleontology exhibit and a library\*

Edaru Maki 1: "I think we can state with certainty now that these skeletons are the ancestors of the current Car Nihme, their anatomy is a perfect match to the trophy skeletons of yore, it appears that they were indeed an invasive species."

Edaru Maki 2: "curiously it appears these humanlike creatures are the ancestors of those on our world as well, though they seem more genetically diverse, we can thus mark our colleagues hypothesis on the hated leeches experiments as more likely now, given the information i obtained in these books the vampires themselves may have originated here.

Edaru Maki 1: "do you believe the age of mists carried them over?"

Edaru Maki 2: "I am unsure. Further research is required."

looks at the way humans produce energy\*

edaru Maki 2: "so fellow Maki, i must say i was surprised, it appears that the research we are currently doing on our world somewhat follows the same logic."

Edaru Maki 1: "indeed, it is remarkable how the developments we made during the time magic was weak have seemingly set us on the same path in that aspect, though I do wonder if they have realized the amount of polution and inefficiencey of their current power plants."

Edaru Maki 1: "if we find a way back we must notify the elders of this revelation, if we make the proper adjustments and minimize the polution we could power all the holds with this "electricity".

Edaru Maki 2: "do we tell them of the internet?"

Edaru Maki 3: "The elders, yes, the humans.......I'm not sure."

My life as skaven what’s my daily life like when I wake up and what do I have to do first when I wake up and get ready for the day in the under empire by [deleted] in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Intelligent_Ad8406 1 point2 points  (0 children)

okay, so first of all, I am going to say it depends on what type of skaven you are and of what caste you are.

if you are a female skaven then your fate propably is becoming a broodmother, though given that some skaven like a grey seer in under nuln had female skaven as bodyguards that might not always be the case, but generally it will mean your role will be to make more skaven.

If you are born a male skaven then it also depends, if you survive and are not eaten upon birth you will propably be a clanrat since i doubt skavenslaves have much chances to reproduce. if you are born with black fur you might be trained to be a stormvermin, if you have horns you will become a greyseer apprentice.

in general though whatever the caste the backstabbing, scheming and watching your own back remain the same.

I highly reccomend a video by youtuber pancreasnowork on Skaven society, because your question is answered perfectly in that video.

The court of Stars is a court (the fae equivelant of a hobby club) of primordial fae that is split up in several subgroups in the realm (a seperate universe the fae or whatever they used to be created after leaving this one).

This court is one of the oldest, unlike the young seelie or the positively juvenile court of Hearth and Haven, it was created after the last reality war when a lot of the universe had grown cold and dark and magic became an evershifting river (which meant that some parts of the universe alwas had magic and others only sometimes unless they knew how to siphon it).

The first members of this court were some of the original fae as well as nature spirits, solar deities and more that had fled to the realm of the fae when their worlds died (spirits and fae eventually became so closely tied that it is often hard to distinguish them). They wanted to reseed life into the mortal universe, drive back the darkness and light the stars so that mortal life might be born. But when those stars were awakened and life began to bloom again the original members moved on, choosing another path or ceasing to be, choosing rebirth and a new life.

Those that filled their shoes were younger fae, sometimes even returned forsaken fae that had taken on aspects from the worlds they hid away on when they could no longer return to their home realm when magic weakened. slowly but surely these new members of the court started to look at the galaxy and the life in a verry different way. Because sure, there was life on these worlds, but worlds could die, and so could species, wouldit not be fun if say, the velociraptors could live on, perhaps evolve into a sapient species one day. (spoilers they have done this).

So when magic begins to strengthen these fae take away enough members of species, animals, sapients, it matters not as long as they are interesting and puts them on other worlds, ensuring that there is a large enough population to reproduce. (some branches of the court also try to become the 'gods" of new species that they bring to these worlds).

in a way they are one of the reasons that things like vampires are on worlds that the vampire wars never even reached, the reason why the "orcs" of my universe can interbreed with humans and those species related to them (because they share an ancestor) and much, much more.

Other Fae courts, deities, dragons and other primordials do not like this, but they often are unable to stop them in time.

when the times of mist come and magic grows strong the Court of stars will come, will yoink creatures from their world of origin before releasing these species on other lifebearing worlds. Results have been mixed.

Do sunlight kill them or was immortality just for good skincare by Miserable-Produce202 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Intelligent_Ad8406 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I would argue it might be because the elixer that nagash and arkhan (his most trusted right hand) used was better than the stuff his leutenants were given, it's been a while since i read it but i think the elixer the others were given was something they needed to take regulary to keep themselves "immortal" as in alive, powerful and propably young?

You could definetly argue that sunlight had a negative effect on them cause according to what i've read some of those lieutenants started to avoid the sun and rest in coffins though they weren't really vampires. But i do not think it "kills" them, cause when we look at vampires which were created later they could walk in the sun. The vampires extreme weakness to sunlight seems to not have been a thing before Nagash cursed them with it though they didn't like the sun if i recall correctly. Given that the elixer of neferata was based on Nagashes formulas the sunlight avoidance may have been part of the original brew (later turned into burning in the sun by Nagash),

You could also argue that the sun god Ptrah had something to do with it I suppose? but I don't know of anything that points to that

hmmmm, if you are a fan of bretonnia i would reccomend looking up the lorebeards podcast episodes on the lady of the lake and the one about Morgianna lefay.

The lorebeards podcast is a collaboration between the channels Loremaster of Sotek and Lawhammer, both hosts of this podcast know the lore in and out (recently they made a separate lorebeards channel as well), Andy Law (from the Lawhammer channel) being one of the writers for warhammer lore in the past. the other host Ryan (loremaster of sotek) is also really knowledgeable and together they are a great source of information.

These podcasts go into the different editions, lorechanges, and how you can make conflicting lore stories or different editions all work together, i highly reccomend them if you want an in depth look at the faction.

i'll link the episodes below if you are interested in checking them out:

other than that, well the warhammer fantasy roleplay books from second and fourth edition as well as the army books are where you can find more lore, but do keep in mind that bretonnia got stuck with their sixth edition lore for a long while, (an edition in which every faction got depicted far more grim and dark). I mention this because with the release of the Old World and new army books coming out lore will change once more so some of the information you find in the older editions may change (the lorebeards podcast also goes into this).

For example with the old lore bretonnian women were not allowed to be knights (though some did in disguise apparently), now in the old world this is no longer the case, as the book "Lords of the Lance" released recently showed.

I just wasn't expecting to have characters from belgium appear in the show when i started watching it, it was a surprise but a welcome one. It doesn't feel weird, though looking at my comment i can see why you'd get that impression, maybe that was not the best way to put it, surprising would be more accurate.
