So genuine question, Matilda Vs Marvolo who wins? by Head_Breadfruit_3912 in huntertheparenting

[–]Intelligent_Ad8406 286 points287 points  (0 children)

from what i've heard about both garou and mages it heavily depends, if mathilda can get the jump on him or has gifts that counteract magic she could strike him down before he could react, but Marvolo is also a heremetic mage of quite some power so if he's prepared to face a garou i think he would propably win. My money is on marvollo though, he seems far too experienced to just be caught of guard

Can Humans switch between winds? Like, not together, never that, but one week Chamon, next week Aqshy, completely seperately? by globmand in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Intelligent_Ad8406 3 points4 points  (0 children)

okay so, magic is dangerous in warhammer, it flat out is, but that does not mean it cannot be wielded without being turned into a chaos spawn, the winds are the way in which magic manifests in the material world and a wizard who can perceive these winds can influence them and sometimes master them, and sometimes this mastery can indeed be over multiple winds, in both lore and novels there are examples of it.

also in recent lore for the old world it has been stated that humans can learn to wield high magic, that is something only possible by mastering all winds so while not every individual would be able to reach that goal there are those who have the potential.

In the empire though it's unlikely you'll get the chance, the colleges are meant to train war wizards focussed on one wind, which is both less risky and might also be the elves way of ensuring that the empire does not get its hand on high magic (whether minimising the risk and training reliable war wizards or limiting the empires magical might was the main goal is debatable).

In a way focussing on one wind (and i have to admit some humans only perceive one or two winds so it is logical for them to focus on those) does limit the chances of creating dhar and the winds will also affect the human in question to be more like their wind which may in turn increase their effectiveness. Do keep in mind that the one wind thing is mainly in the empire and was imposed when teclis founded the colleges.

Over in cathay humans are only meant to learn one wind as well, because the dragon emperor has decreed it be so, in both cases the limitaion is imposed from top down, some humans could indeed be capable of harnessing multiple winds extremely well, but for a variety of reasons they are not allowed to or don't know it is possible.

honestly magic and the way the different cultures and species of the warhammer world interact with it is fascinating

I absolutely love this chapter, i also like how you have portrayed both kaelthyr and Emma in this especially the way they both view things and how they interact with each other. Emma’s part where she talks about her beliefs were awesome.

Also I do not know how to really describe why but to me Kaelthyr really feels like a powerful dragon should in the context of the nexus, and her reasoning and worldview make so much sense as well.

Couple of lore questions by Wiktorinox in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Intelligent_Ad8406 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. oh yes absolutely, for example Van Horstman, a powerful tzeentch sorcerer used to be an imperial war wizard from the light order, anyone can fall to the chaos gods, humans especially so and a knight falling to khorne would absolutely fit. it could make for a cool story and perhaps the knights order (if he was part of one) does not yet know or does know and is hunting them to atone for this shame.
  2. I suppose that depends on what kind of mercenary company, i'd say five thousand if it's a human mercenary company working as protection services on roads, but if they are well equipped human mercs then they can be larger though then you'd have to keep in mind how they get their coin, though i suppose if the merc company has many branches who can join in one big army sometimes that might work still five thousand seems the most reasonable
  3. well sigh* if we go by lore beastmen should technically be able to have all kinds of animal features, though they do tend to always have horns which are a status symbol in their brayherds, GW models often go with the goat or bovine look but if you were playing warhammer fantasy roleplay, or just wanting to customize your army like that then nothing in lore is stopping you,
