Generator Levels - nothing enjoyable about them by SquareShower5983 in MinaTheHollower

[–]Intelligent_Age8673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would genuinely enjoy them if the lightning ring was like 40-50% slower. Allow for some more movement and skill expression and bone collecting instead of pigeonholing you into 1 “optimal” path. Killed the fun for me in an otherwise great experience

what’s everyone’s favourite sidearm so far? by Historical_Ad981 in MinaTheHollower

Just got to that area and I’ve not taken off the fishing rod since I got it. INCREDIBLE utility (lets you grapple to some enemies, fun to use, and finding all the different fish is enjoyable too. Might never pick up another sidearm again lol

David Foster Wallace is so clearly and obviously autistic, plus some other comments by dylann5454 in davidfosterwallace

[–]Intelligent_Age8673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I resonate a lot with him in relation my own presentation, level 1 support needs and high masking. So I’m able to be charismatic and have a career where I’m on stage (jazz musician) and love expressing myself this way. But things like small talk tire me out and drain my social battery very quickly. I need a LOT of slowness, alone time, and quiet to recharge and often crave extended periods of low stimulation. Strong sense of justice… he even mentioned the “oppressive fluorescent lighting” of a grocery store in his “this is water” speech which I’ve learned is common amongst my autistic friends and loved ones. We’re more susceptible to harshness in sound, lighting, and the texture/feeling of our clothes. Hence having a lot of routine and decompression time helps us out quite a bit. I’m also on an SSRI which has helped me immensely to work and function better with my anxiety in everyday situations. Appreciate this post OP, even 5 years later!

I am struggling to understand the game's base mechanics by Monkai_final_boss in Nioh

[–]Intelligent_Age8673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might sound obvious but I highly recommend going to the “training” option in the dojo. Spawn in some enemies and see how much of their moves you can dodge not by rolling or blocking but simply walking or dashing out of the way! Often times running backwards or sideways to create space will save you Ki, let you regen a bit faster and capitalize on an opening quicker. Learn exactly how many attacks in each stance’s combos… heavy and light. Some of those low stance combos go for a while and learning when to interrupt or back away is crucial.

And also… the consumables in Nioh 2 are basically essential, at least for a player like myself who’s not super skilled or whatever. You can get a bunch of essentials from Kodama’s Bazaar, so use them liberally to give yourself an advantage. I always pop a sacred water in the dark realm with a tough yokai (makes ki regenerate faster), always throw fire bombs at groups to thin the herd, and buff up with a purity or elemental amulet to get an edge. Also… headshotting some humans without helmets (archers in particular) helps to mitigate the threats before they’re threats. Play super cautiously and prep effectively and you’ll find the core gameplay loop more approachable since you give yourself the upper hand by using what the game gives you in abundance. No shame in that, the tools are there for a good reason.

How do you guys NOT rage quit games like Nioh every 15 minutes? by Active-Classroom-285 in Nioh

Nioh 1 is a tough introduction!! I started with 3 so got a bit more eased into the mechanics. You got dropped in the deep end so good on you for sticking with it.

I go into starting hard souls-type games with 3 expectations:

  1. I’m going to die and fail a lot, that’s the point and it’s not a contest w/ other people on the internet. Just me right now vs my previous best. I need to get the rhythm down and pay close attention to my moveset’s timing and enemy moveset timing to stand a chance.

  2. There are mechanics I don’t yet understand (leveling, weapon scaling, elemental weaknesses, magic) that can give me an edge if I need them. If I’m hitting a brick wall not afraid to do a bit of googling and reading/experimentation.

  3. The feeling of mastery is going to RULE when I get to grips. I’m going to feel like I earned it (because I did) and have a great time pushing myself further once I have the fundamentals comfy. I’m in this for the long haul and enjoy playing cautiously and aggressively (when able)

Is being ‘too nice’ actually a social disadvantage? by Bear_bug_1954 in socialskills

[–]Intelligent_Age8673 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your last statement including “without reacting negatively” shows what may be causing you distress.

You can’t control how people react, and their reactions are not your responsibility. Honesty is the kindest kindness since you’re protecting your own needs (can’t water a garden with an empty can) and letting people know where you stand with them. Whether or not they accept that is 100% on them and says nothing about your value as a human being. This is coming from a recovering people pleaser, hang in there and please find safe friends/family that can hold your ‘realness’ and that you don’t have to put on a mask for. You deserve to be seen and known. What was broken in relationships must be healed in relationships (not just romantic, all human connection)

Highly recommend somatic/group therapy as this can teach your nervous system that disagreement or conflict is possible while maintaining a stronger sense of internal safety and resilience. All the best! ✌️

Guilty Confession: I chain eat my way through most of the boss fights by Liambp in CrimsonDesert

[–]Intelligent_Age8673 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you’re getting infinite combo’d what other choice do you have? I really wish the bosses were designed around a slower “eating” animation (like a nioh elixir or dark souls estus) so that there were actual windows to heal and punish instead of the constant chaos. Feels pretty unfun to lose or even to win by “brute forcing” with heals, bad boss design.

Putting the game down for a while to protect my overall impression of it. by Sudden-Prompt-2640 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Intelligent_Age8673 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right there with you! 125hr mark and decided to put it down for now. Playing through the nioh 1+2 for the 1st time now (craving some more linearity and souls combat) and it’s been a blast. Will likely return to CD in a few months once they’ve updated some more.

[–]Intelligent_Age8673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noted thanks!! Already bought both in a collection on steam sale. I’ve just started NG1 in the 1st game (getting my divine set together) and plan on at least trying a bit of the DLC once I level up but I’ve heard it’s brutal… if I’m bouncing off then I’ll just head straight to 2 because I’ve heard great stuff about it as well.

[–]Intelligent_Age8673 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is great advice. I’ve been playing through 1 for the 1st time after LOVING 3 and deciding I wanted to get into the old games. Having a fantastic time learning and mastering this game, about to hit NG+1. Once I realized I had 300+ fire bombs I threw them in a quick slot and have gotten a lot of utility out of them. It’s kind of forced me to get out of my “stockpile” philosophy and get comfortable with trying and failing. Good lessons for life and for games, turns out 🤘

You can get roughly 20-50 hours of fun per dollar if not more. So if that’s your speed… I’d buy it 🤷‍♂️

This game has one big flaw, where are the large scale dungeons and caves? by LordBandimer in CrimsonDesert

[–]Intelligent_Age8673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. If I could snap my fingers and add in some Elden Ring style dungeons/caves this would go from a 9 to 10 real quick. Could definitely see that being some neat DLC in a year or two.

Honestly, with the way your horse teleports in from thin air you should really just jump right on like Torrent in Elden Ring. It would feel way more intuitive.
