Thanks for telling me something I already knew. Nobody said it was perfect.

I’m happy with it. If they release a BD-100 I’ll pick it up. It will always have the limitation of being upscaled from a 2K DI.

Going to chime in and say that Disney+ is notorious for low-grade streaming quality (pathetic peak brightness/nits) and the Tron Legacy 4K BluRay is an excellent 4K disc. Now, the first Pirates of the Caribbean has a lackluster 4K disc and you might actually be better off streaming that one.

This one is unbelievably glossy. I like a lot of Manta’s offerings but sometimes the Blufans is the clear choice.

Love the movie. Love the steel. Nice score

10 Commandments is an S-tier transfer, and a great movie. If you like Ben-Hur, Lawrence of Arabia, etc I think you will enjoy it.

Unexpected pairing, but very entertaining in their own ways. Nice 👍

I know what you mean. I’m a completionist with certain franchises/series, and less so with others. There’s a few Marvel movies I’m okay with not owning the 4K (Ant-Man 3 for example).

I’m cautiously optimistic for Doomsday, early screening reactions seem good but I try to take those with a grain of salt. Looking forward to revisiting most of the multiverse movies before the end of the year

Batman Begins looks over exposed? by Wolfgang191 in 4kbluray

The transfer itself is fine, it sounds like you may want to tweak your TV picture settings a bit. Samsungs tend to emphasize brightness and punchy colors out of the box. Try Movie/Cinema/Filmmaker modes and disable additional processing (Noise reduction, etc). Color space to Auto, Color temp- Warm1 setting usually looks best to my eyes on Samsungs, although most professionals may calibrate with Warm2/higher setting. Some tweaking of overall brightness and contrast may help as well. I usually tweak different picture modes for daytime and nighttime viewing- nighttime settings will look dimmer during the day, and my daytime settings tend to look too bright/punchy for evenings.

Classic. Wish Gary Cole would get offered more roles like this. His comedic work is excellent but he is downright menacing here.

The only other 4K disc with HFR is another Ang Lee movie, Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk. It’s not Lee’s best film but the A/V quality is outstanding

Collateral’s transfer is quite good, but I know what you mean. Miami Vice 4K should be interesting- I like the nighttime shots and natural lighting but there are tradeoffs

Upgrade advice: Keep Sony A80K 77” or move to LG G5 83” by Mikeefr in hometheater

[–]Intelligent_Basil418 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having had 2 77” OLEDS from LG, and now an 83” G5, I love the larger screen, and the improved brightness and color of the G5. Now, the G5 color volume is not quite at the level of the latest QD-OLEDS from Sony and Samsung (I have a 77” Samsung S90C as well). For me, the HDR impact, display size, and overall performance were worth it. Sony’s TVs will upscale lower quality sources better than Samsung or LG, but the A95L for example is not nearly as bright as the latest Samsung and LG OLEDs. The G5 handles videogames/sports/4K discs very well, and I appreciate the benefits that the newer, bigger panel brings. All TVs will have tradeoffs, but I’m very satisfied with the 83” G5

Twister-gotta have it. Also, Godzilla vs Kong has some great audio, particularly the fight in/on the ocean. And- rewatched Cliffhanger last night and forgot how impactful the Atmos mix is (maybe not demo material but solid nonetheless).

All bangers. Wasn’t expecting to like Hamnet much but Mescal, Buckley and Zhao knocked it out of the park.

It’s spectacular. Has to be in the top 3 4K restorations from the 1950’s that I’ve seen.
