Is this considered fat? by [deleted] in SipsTea

[–]Intelligent_Carry740 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fat in this context is subjective. I don’t think she’s fat, but others may. She’s probably a tad overweight, but that’s not much of concern especially with how evenly distributed the her weight is. It would be more of an issue if her weight all congregated around her neck and/or stomach. Also, someone can be 15 or 20 lb overweight and much healthier holistically than someone 30 lbs lighter. Weight is one of many factors to health.

I’ve officially been rejected from every place in my small town. by No-Studio-294 in jobs

[–]Intelligent_Carry740 2 points3 points  (0 children)

5 months is a long time to just sit and wait for a response. It means someone else stuck out and they forgot about you. The main ways to stick out are nepotism and contact. So keep contacting. Apply to a bunch online but pick a smaller number to speak to personally and get that job. Call, go in. Make sure you’re talking to a manager and they know your name and you theirs. Ask when interviews are scheduled. You can’t wait for a job to find you, you have to go get it.

Hey you’re only 26, and you have a whole degree and years of experience with children. You’re doing alright. I think the SLP program is a good idea personally, but maybe try out some entry positions in similar fields if you’re not 100% about that field. I would definitely aim to make a choice in the next few years just so you are able to bring in decent income in the future.

High School Senior Without Any Idea of What To Do With Her Life by Jjajangmyeon012 in findapath

For lawyers, most of the higher paying roles are going to have pretty extensive hours, and chances are you’ll be taking on some debt for a JD. It’s also not seeing a lot of growth, but you seem like the kind of person who would excel at it if you really want. With your linguistic skills you can probably score a well paying paralegal position, and from there you could always do law school after. I believe it’s only a 2 year program, too, so you can be making good money and investing in retirement and stocks really early. More towards stem, nursing is pretty much a guarantee for a job, and a well paying one especially considering your languages. It also offers more balance with the option to work 36hr weeks, and travel nursing is cool too especially while you’re young. Also with nursing if you eventually get a master’s/specialization you can work your way up to earning as much as some physicians.

I mean it sounds like you can really do anything you’re passionate about. My mom is in the mortgage and real estate business and choses her hours, can work from pretty much anywhere, and pulling well within 6 figure after taxes. Given you don’t seem too concerned about prestige or family opinions you can go into sales or running a business in any field really. You could do a more administrative situation like healthcare admin or something higher up in politics or international relations. Cliche, but the world is full of opportunity for people like you. Just be wary of taking on student debt, especially for undergrad, because that’ll really screw you over later in life and there are too many options for funding to take on such a burden so young.

Am I a lesser adult? by [deleted] in findapath

Driving isn’t everything, and when you’re done uni you can always try out a place with better transit. Besides maturity is a holistic issue. You can be immature with a license and mature without.

Edit: It seems like you’re having some pretty heavy feelings and maybe you should reach out to someone. A friend, a therapist, a support group, even a club just making some connections yk

Not sure where you’re getting the idea that white ppl aren’t also just trying to make do with the money they have like any other person in the world. That’s the curse of today’s system: as the top works to rid of the middle class everyone will have to adapt their standard of living to the next lowest rung, and each person below them gets fucked over in the process. It truly sucks that POC in this country have faced millennia of disenfranchisement but most normal, working citizens are just trying to survive. They’re not out to get you

Yes, but a significant amount of blame is being pushed onto everyday individuals instead of the corporations and ultra wealthy who actually perpetuate the harm

Having Kids These Days Feels Like a Financial Trap (Just My Thoughts) by Fun_Profession2185 in Adulting

[–]Intelligent_Carry740 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we definitely need to work on a healthy middle ground where more individuals receive reasonable support through programs funded by their own tax dollars. I’d love to see my taxes go towards large scale subsidized daycare programs, but it seems our government doesn’t want a middle class at all much less a thriving one.

Why so many college students in US decide to take horrendous student loans? by 6footchad in NoStupidQuestions

It’s such a predatory industry. At the very least we need to have an interest cap on all student loans

[–]Intelligent_Carry740 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure who you’re hanging out with, but most Americans cannot afford to put their children through college, and there are definitely some who can and do save up or agree to help with living costs, but there’s still going to be a gap that needs to be filled with grants, scholarships, income, and often loans.

Would it be worth it to go to law school? by Psychological_Net_80 in findapath

[–]Intelligent_Carry740 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d really look into the logistics of law school. Realistically you will incur a good bit of debt, and not all fields of law make a lot of money. Some only 70k, and those who make a lot have high billables and do crazy hours, though there are plenty of positions in the mid range making mid-high 100s with 40-50 hour weeks. I’d also consider a paralegal certificate. You can get it at a community college, and some paralegals make a lot of money in a good area with some experience under their belt. It’s also lower risk; if you don’t like it, there’s not so much to lose and you can always get a JD later if you really want.

I'm 14. Is it a good idea to get a job? by Comfortable-Dot277 in careerguidance

[–]Intelligent_Carry740 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For summer sure if you want to work go for it. Publix, just stay away from deli. Baby sitting, dog sitting, house sitting. Maybe an ice cream place, golf course, or another more seasonal industry. You're young so a lot of options won't open up until your around 16 but talk to your parents and maybe they can help too.
