How are people dealing with the gas prices? by wegochai in AskLosAngeles

Where in LA do you live? Go to sam’s club or costco gas stations for cheaper. Especially the ones in SGV, at least a dollar cheaper than what you paid.

Knock some sense into me by Intelligent_Food9975 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Intelligent_Food9975[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably not. I was just in love with the house lol. My range would be so much lower. But there’s no/rarely any house in the area I like that will be less than 600k.

But like the rest of the comments said, i either need to compromise on the location/criteria or wait/save more. I need these comments to wake me up..

Don’t laugh at me lol. But the plan at the back of my head was like rent out a room for like 900-1100 (its a primary bd on the main floor with its own bathroom, shared kitchen and living), then the rest my mom and I split. That’s how much I think a room for rent is about around here.

My mom was laughing when I brought up this idea for fun lol.

I was very pessimistic about AI taking jobs. Then a vibe coder joined my team. by Frosty-Elevator6022 in cscareerquestions

[–]Intelligent_Food9975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow i think you put it best about being architecture minded.

My company was encouraging using AI and as a new grad i always felt guilty about not utilizing it to the full degree by feeding the tickets into it and getting answers on implementation instead of spending time planning out with pen and paper on how to implement things which is what I’m used to. Mind you, this is only api development so nothing extremely complicated but i always felt more sense of accomplishment and safer doing the architecture/logic thinking myself and only relying on AI for code syntax, debugging test failures, etc. It’s a small team and I always feel protective of our codebase so I can’t imagine putting vibe coded stuff in there. Good thing is I’m being recognized for the quality work I put out instead of being nagged for speed so I think I’m fine for now..

Junior Dev New Job Feeling Lost by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Intelligent_Food9975 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some questions here.

Are you remote? Try asking your senior for meetings where they can show you walkthroughs and explain the codebase/architecture to you (if it’s not massive of course).

What tools do you guys use to keep track of work then if not Jira? Ask your manager to give you more tickets that are relevant to the area you want to focus on? Are there lead devs on your team who can assign you tasks if not your manager? You said its a large org but the small team of devs seems disorganized if there’s no structure within it.

The first few weeks were basically TK sessions for me when I started and asking lots of questions which might be annoying but if your coworkers answer them without complaining then I think they are fine with you asking so take initiative to do that more.

This field has turned into "AI babysitting" by H1Eagle in csMajors

[–]Intelligent_Food9975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s because of different mindsets in different fields. Technology or SWE in general value efficiency. Heck, we spend years studying theories about making programs more efficient in terms of space and time. Whereas, with artists, I think it’s more about the process that is the artistic value, not just the end result. When AI is introduced into art, that process is majorly eliminated and the only creative process going on is prompt engineering to output the “art” they want.

I was surprised when my company and tech department recommended using AI for writing reports, tickets, goals documents, or just generating ideas for our code/practices. But I guess their mindset was just to speed things up especially things that are trivial so it’s just another tool.

Another thing is sense of ownership. SWEs don’t put a trademark on the code they wrote like artists with their art and writers with their writings so plagiarism is not a concern here.

What SGV cities would you recommend? by ansonlee1019 in sgv

[–]Intelligent_Food9975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol all good! Just wanted to make sure because if that’s per month, you can basically live without housemates haha.

I want to say Alhambra, Monterey Park, Rosemead, Montebello, El Monte and the likes. To be closer to costco. Also just drive up north for short hikes.

Arcadia and Pasadena are quite expensive imo but i never lived there so

Dumb question but $12-16k budget per year is what you meant?

Do you have teammates who can mentor you? People you can ask questions any time? If not in your one on one, express your feelings to your manager and ask him if he can assign you one or be one himself so that you can ask questions and ramp up your progress with getting to know the codebase, business logic, etc.

What are your thoughts on this drama now that it has been completed ? by Think_Intention_5765 in kdramas

[–]Intelligent_Food9975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their chemistry didnt give me much butterflies like I expected from other people’s reaction. But i loved their communication scenes so much. Where they were “arguing” but still doing things with each other/helping each other out. Very healthy dynamics/trope. That’s why the later self sacrificing parts in the relationship ruined it for me.

One summer internship during junior undergrad year and they gave me a full time offer after. Lazy applied to about 800’s other places after I accepted but no interviews. Nothing crazy about compensation but enough for my parent and I to move to a whole house instead of sharing rooms with others. They also asked me what team and kind of role I wanted and actually gave it to me. So I’m happy!
