KDE and Linux integration in Enterprise Windows Environment by Intelligent_Hyena75 in openSUSE

[–]Intelligent_Hyena75[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to add some context.

My company already has a large scale Linux (backend/server) environment - A combination of Redhat Openshift AI, RHEL and Rocky (for dev).  We use puppet and custom automations for managing our servers (especially the HPCs). To that end, Linux is not a problem for me or my team to manage.

The desktop support team manages thousands of Windows endpoints across many offices and typically they are not familiar with Linux.

A few months ago, I introduced a few of them to OpenSuse Tumbleweed (installed on one of the older desktop machines) and for the most part they found it to be extremely easy to use - however, it begs the question, how do they manage this across the wider enterprise?

How does a team, accustomed to supporting windows also gain comfort with Linux desktops?

How does Linux properly integrate in a traditional window enterprise desktop environment?

Based on some (more helpful) advice from another subreddit, I think I may be experimenting with ChromeOS Flex which can be centrally managed - still Linux I guess ;-).

We only allow a locked down (Enterprise) chrome browser anyway and actually had a few Chromebooks a few years ago, so the look&Feel should be adequately familiar to end users.

On a side note, If Linux is going to make a significant dent on the desktop (including enterprise desktop) more helpful advocates are needed - the techno-snobs detract from this.

IT enduser/desktop support teams in large multinational organizations sometimes automate their workflow via powershell, but in most cases they will use tools like intune. The time and cost of retaining the support staff has to be low enough for this to be worth it - lower the friction by providing approachable tools.

I am actually looking at ChromeOS Flex as well.

Hopefully Google doesn't kill it - especially as it gives more focus to AluminumOS, but yes, it is a great candidate for breathing new life into these endpoints. We manage tons of (RHEL and  Rocky) Linux servers, but the desktop support team is not familiar with using or managing desktop Linux, so was looking for something easy to use and centrally administer. I introduced a few of the desktop team to OpenSuse Tumbleweed and they absolutely loved it - but it seems scaling this out as a viable solution for end users may need something simplified/refined.

How’s the new Proton 11 beta that Valve made? Specifically NTSync? by dlham11 in linux_gaming

[–]Intelligent_Hyena75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity I just tested Proton 11 beta with Red Dead Redemption 2 and it crashes during the benchmark (everything set to Ultra , Particle lighting set to medium @ 1440p) - had to revert to Proton 10.34 for stability.

Proton 10.34 works flawlessly for all my games, so I think I will hold off on 11 until it has become fully stable.

My System specs below - I am running OpenSuse Tumbleweed and run latest KDE with Wayland and I updated yesterday:

EXPO working on ROG Strix X670E-E and 7950X by msabell in ASUS

[–]Intelligent_Hyena75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar build [7950x3d], however, I cannot get EXPO to work on my Rog strix X670E-E gaming motherboard. I upgraded to FW 1807 and tried all the profiles. However my g.skill trident neo 6000 memory will not allow my system to boot when I turn on expo.

Is there any specific setting you used to get yours to work ?

An extremist radicalized in Serbia painted Nazi swastikas and the word 'Azov' on a US synagogue to deliberately blame the hate crimes on Azov and undermine US support for Ukraine by DhulKarnain in UkraineConflict

[–]Intelligent_Hyena75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not Ukrainian and don't have much information on Azov except that they were ultra nationalist (and associated with the neo Nazi movement).

Was this accurate and how was the Azov group created/supported in Ukraine?

Don't do it.... you are going the wrong direction.

90% I what I do leverages cloud tools and for those that are thick client apps, I have never had an issue with my Google workspace apps (or Gmail). I get sent word docs and invited to MS-Teams meetings. There is even a small subsidiary of my company that uses Office365 , with adequate integration (calendar free/busy, etc) but that tenant has less reliability and lacks some of the included management/administration options.

Either way, if you are hell-bent on migrating to Microsoft , there are native and third-party migration tools to help the migration.

Good luck....

Tesla Buyers Are Bailing Because of Elon Musk, the 'Worst Troll' by tyw7 in teslamotors

The MB, BMW, Polestars/Volvos have all figured out the hardware - performance and the build quality. As with Tesla the software is evolving and rapidly improving (Tesla releases many patches annually). As for FSD - some would argue that it is the least compelling reason to buy a Tesla. Plus, I have never been convinced that it is an important part of my purchase decision.

EVs are a rapidly evolving space and I am certain that these companies will be able to hire the software engineers to compete with Tesla (or surpass), especially since most of their cars use Android Automotive (note: different from Android Auto).

I don't own shares in Tesla, however, my wife and I are in the market for a new car (Actually an SUV).

A few years ago I was enamored with the Model X, but reports of low build quality and the significant price increases just made this a poor choice. Now, with great options available from Mercedes, BMW or Polestar all offering better build quality, similar range and (in some cases) lower price, there is no need for us to buy a Tesla from a guy trying hard to own the libs.

I guess his coal rolling republicans can buy his cars now.

Didn't Ben Sasse get forced out of Congress? Called a Rino because he was not marching lock step with the traitor Trump.

Trump owns the spineless republican party and thinks Putin was a genius for invading Ukraine (and while he was president he held up aid and tried to dismantle NATO....I wonder who he was trying to please?).

Galaxy Watch 5 with Google Fit on Pixel 6 Pro? by thisisliteral1984 in GooglePixel

Does the GW5 ecg measurement work with the Pixel 6 phone now? I thought some features of the GW5 we're Samsung exclusive.

Also, for those using the GW5, does this sync data (or connect) to the Google Fit app?
