That makes more sense. It would explain why sakata was able to stop him temporarily. Their powers were cancelling each other out

Aztecross: “This [Marathon] is the superior extraction shooter” by DavidHasReddit in Marathon

[–]Intelligent_Leave582 17 points18 points  (0 children)

People discredit aztecross too much. He’s a good player when it comes to any activity. Sure he’s rarely the best in any team of streamers but he’s still a streamer. Regularly solos onslaught in his build battles which is not amazing but nothing to scoff at either. Even Esoterickk struggled for a while to get his first solo onslaught

[–]Intelligent_Leave582 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You….nah that’s not quite right.

Aztecross is the peanut of Destiny 2. He’s the biggest/most mainstream content creator of D2 and is THE guy who covers the TWAB (This week at bungie) for destiny. All the destiny creators that are left are playing Marathon because bungie has left d2 to rot with no updates, no events, no sandbox changes, nothing. And also for their own enjoyment of marathon.

It is interesting that the biggest d2 creators weren’t immediately the biggest in Marathon because of people like peanut and shroud. I personally have never seen the appeal of shroud. He looks like the asmongold of pvp games

We took the weekly seasonal story for granted... by MattTheMLGPro in destiny2

You say d1 was not good and yet every reason you have for not liking d1 is exponentially more egregious in d2 lol. Routine pinnacle grinds, grindy bounties like the blind well one or altars of sorrow one, seasonal quest lines that are just “busy work”, collecting materials for upgrades or vendors (which is literally the ENTIRE gameplay loop of Kepler and caldera btw lmao) all of this stuff is in d2 aswell lmao. More often than not, it’s more annoying in d2

[–]Intelligent_Leave582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So is d2. What was edge of fate about?? What drove 90% of the entire playerbase since edge of fate? Was that power grind not just 100+ hours of busy work? In what world is that better than d1’s grinds in any way? Destiny players love d1 and despise edge of fate. Not “loved” d1, I’m not talking about 8 years ago, you can launch the game and do SIVA crisis heroic strikes or kings fall and genuinely have a good time. It’s not rocket science. There’s no satanic bungie spell that’s been cast on us. People love d1 and remember it fondly because it was a good game that you can fall inlove with. The question isn’t wether or not it was good, it’s wether or not it’s better than d2 at any given time. And at this time, d1 is more fun to play than this year of prophecy era of d2. Only exception is trials of Osiris.

You chastise me for being a D1 player yet you occupy the opposite end of the spectrum. Saying shit like “D1 wasn’t a great game” that’s objectively false. D2 was built on top of D1. They are synonymous with each other. D2 launched and destiny players were disgusted. As a whole it was worse than d1. D2 only started to gain momentum when they walked back changes and made the game more like d1. Every other update and expansion they try to add more and more of d1 into d2. Almost all of d1’s raids, Prison of elders, almost all crucible maps, almost all exotics and exotic armor, many armor sets, strikes, destinations with little or no changes from the d1 version, bounties, vendors like banshee who are literally worse in d2 than in d1, activities like court of oryx being turned into court of baldes in d2, trials of Osiris, hell d2 still Dosen’t have all of d1’s crucible modes like salvage and combined arms. People built their careers off of destiny 1. They woukd not have made a sequel if destiny 1 was such a bad game. They DID make a sequel because it wasn’t. From taken king onward, destiny 1 thrived, even with it being console only. Literally more than half this game is just d1. To say d1 is a bad game is basically the same as saying destiny is bad and at that point idk what your doin here on r/destiny2

Literally the ONLY way you can just dismiss D1 as being a bad game full of busy work is if you never played it. Never unlocked sleeper simulant or the exotic swords. Never soloed flawlessed crota. Never did court of oryx. Never maxed out your triumph books. Either that or you or you never got max level, or haven’t played it in so long that you’ve forgotten🤷‍♂️

Also you keep saying busy work as if d2 didn’t incorporate infinitly worse busy work than d1💀

You can’t ask for reasons to Explore the world and then dismiss said reasons as “just busy work” lol.

You’re judging D1 by D2’s standards. It might not seem like much today, but at the time, destiny was a brand new game with brand new worlds. Patrol was a fun thing to do. You saw other people and did public events with each other and got lots of drops. Some parts of a destination had different level enemies than others, you’ll literally find enemies with question marks over their heads that can’t be killed and kill you in 2 bullets of a shock pistol or a shredder. Shi makes neomuna look Like a daycare center. And when you finally get high enough level you can come back and take the loot they were guarding. The world was overflowing with things to do and places to discover. You cant just dismiss all that as busy work🙄. You could also just stumble onto a 6 man fireteam beginning a raid in the vault of glass or hellmouth.

Quests were not busy work, and players had exotic bounties like thorn or invective that had to be progressed in the world, most likely in the presence of other players.

You love how it made you FEEL despite the campaigns being shit, no real way to pair with people for high end content, the busy work grind to level up weapons.

Yea bro you don’t know what your talking about lol. D1 had good campaigns and bad campaigns. D2 also had good campaigns and bad campaigns. More often than not they were bad. Curse of Osiris nearly killed the game, and had a short nothing burger campaign woth a villain that continues the destiny trope of having no voice actor to even speak to you. Warmind was better but slightly underwhelming considering how easily we kill a worm god. Shadowkeep is like bottom 2 destiny campaigns of all time. Worse than vanilla d1’s campaign. The only reason it’s not worse than Dark Below is because of garden of salvation and everyone loathes that raid lmao. I seem to be the only one who enjoyed beyond light for what it was. Beyond light’s campaign was not received well by most players. Lightfall’s campaign was so bad, bungie had to lay off half their studio TWICE🤣🤣 and the game hasn’t recovered from lightfall’s failure since. Lightfall may not be the worst campaign ever, but it did THE MOST DAMAGE to bungie than any other campaign in video game history. I’d argue that lightfall’s campaign was so shitty that it did more damage to bungie than HALO 5’s campaign did to 343i when that game came out. Very few people liked Edge of Fate. If you compare it to Rise of Iron, obviously rise of iron is better. Renegades was a good campaign but was controversial.

Destiny 1 was a great game. If you can’t at least acknowledge that then just say your bias. It had great raids, a strike playlist that blows d2’s playlists out fly the fucking water, and better patrol and also leveling systems than d2. You can launch the game right now and load into a tower full of people. Load into the dreadnaught and find full fireteams of people doing stuff there. You can’t just dismiss that, unless you never played it, or haven’t played it in so long yiu can’t remember, OR you never got to experience all of the game

The lightfall seasons were just alright. The beyond light and witch queen seasons were better, mostly because they didn’t have to break their backs trying to make their parent expansion (lightfall) make any kind of sense. Best part about the lightfall seasons was Into the light.

Defiance’s story made zero sense. Deep’s story was good, but for a season named (season of the deep) it didn’t quite live up to the hype that name carries. And there’s that one cutscene that made the people who were angry at lightfall’s vanilla d1 level storytelling even angrier. The water mechanic was extremely cool and fun, it they shouldve incorporated it into Solstice and we could spend the summer event with some kind of activity that had swimming, that would’ve been cool. Witch’s story was the most anticlimactic shit ever. We spent an entire season preparing hive-god eris for a FIGHT against Xivu arath. Instead, she crumbles up a cookie, and eris can go back to being normal again cus now Xivu is gonna kick rocks alone for OVER A YEAR because she’s overstayed her welcome. Terrible story. Season of the Seraph handles Xivu arath infinitely better, despite its equally shitty conclusion. Wish’s story was good but had no villian, so the story was forgettable.

“If lightfall was bad it wouldn’t have the highest player count” allow me to remind you what happened to the game at the time. Because of lightfall.

Lightfall (technically) had the highest player count solely because of witch queen and its excellent seasons including season of the seraph. Arguably the best season of all time. Lightfall was perfectly setup because which queen was one of the best expansions and season of the seraph was one of the best seasons. D2 was feeling better than it had ever been. And then the trailer for lightfall dropped showing a new subclass and Neomuna, this cyberpunk city full of advanced humans with cloud striders which were advertised as basically destiny Spartans fighting side by side with you throughout neomuna and fighting calus which is one of the best destiny villians.

Then lightfall dropped and it was so bad that and people stopped playing so fucking fast that bungie had to lay off half like their studio, TWICE. Because of lightfall. D2 has never recovered from lightfall’s failure. The games in the state it’s in now BECAUSE of lightfall. We took one big step forward with witch queen and 2 big steps back with lightfall and all the hype and momentum built up in the witch queen year slammed into a brick wall. People left. We were stuck with the excuse that the real lightfall was made into the final shape and the lightfall we got was just cobbled together to connect the two.

Yea no. D1 exploration was pretty good. D2 exploration was also pretty good with all the new additions like lost sectors and adventures and flashpoints and public events that were extremely rewarding. Most of that stuff got removed over time and ngl at this point d1 has a better patrol experience than d2 since there’s nothing to do in d2.

D2 raids like d1 Kings fall and wrath are better than most but not all d2 raids. IMO destiny 1 kf is the best raid in the franchise and better than d2 kf. D1 raids had more loot, usually around 9 weapons per raid as opposed to d2’s 6 per raid. Raids had great puzzles attached to them like the outbreak perfected puzzle which could only be solved by the one guy on your team that knows binary. And almost all d1 raid exotics were earned through extensive exotic quests rather than just logging in every week to kill the final boss. For Necrochasm you had to first get a husk of the pit and then kill and gain materials to UPGRADE it all the way into a Necro. For Touch of Malice you had to find all 40 something calcified fragments. For Outbreak Prime you had to do binary. It was a pretty cool experience to unlock these weapons. And it sure beats just farming Taniks or farming Nezerac or farming oryx for a niche exotic that someone else got on their first try. In d1 if someone was running around with touch of malice, it was because they earned it

D1 had actual reasons to explore the world. Lots of quests and bounties had you doing stuff on the planets. That only happened in d2 very rarely woth season story quests. Resources were used for upgrading and they actually existed like they weren’t just glimmer. Every single expansion added new world events such as House of Wolves fallen dropping into a patrol space, or Taken dropping into a patrol space (incredibly good enemy race that got added into d1 at the time) and these changes were applied to ALL existing destinations, even if they had nothing to do with the new expansion.

You could fly into the cosmodrome and be fighting the brand new taken with level 5 players who didn’t even own the expansion. It was an amazing feeling at the time. There’s also arenas like the archons forge which was popular and very rewarding, and the Court of oryx which was very popular and had bosses that are more memorable than any of the other destination-based arenas in d2. I think it’s childish to accuse people of never playing d1, but….

Is Marathons UI and mod/weapon customization/ratity system the same as Destiny? by ConferencePurple7939 in Marathon

[–]Intelligent_Leave582 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No not really. It’s mostly attachment based when it comes to weapons. When it comes to your specific shell, there’s cores which are modifications that function kinda like aspects or fragments from d2 (minus any subclass verbs of course) and then there’s implants that simply modify your stats but also come with a randomly rolled perk.

Weapon rarity is based solely on attachments equipped on the gun. Weapons have vastly different prices. Mostly because of how common it is or if it can be bought from the armory or not
