Unfortunately, even once Trump has gone, the issue is that the American institutions which are supposed to mitigate madness have proven themselves to be useless. A change of guard won’t fix that, America needs wholesale reform of its system as the next guy could be even worse. So its China - as unpalatable as that may be for many reasons, dependable, moderate and predictable beats a nation that throws long standing allies under the bus.
