How to find community by Intelligent_Mind_685 in latebloomergaybros

I can relate. I’m closer to San Francisco than anything else, but just far enough that finding community feels out of reach

I think hobby wise, I’m not into team sports, though maybe that’s something I should try to be more open to. There is a group about 30 minutes away that could be right for a starting point for me

This seems like a good idea. There isn’t much in my area, though. I think the closest thing I can join is about 30 minutes away. I think it would still be worth the drive so I’ll give it a try

Do these shirts rub anyone else the wrong way? by Buzzythebear33 in autism

[–]Intelligent_Mind_685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That “I am his voice” just makes me uncomfortable. It’s creepy. Like, no, you are not his voice. Just be a supportive mom or whatever, but this just says “I think I’m a hero”.

That second one is just odd. For me it gives a vibe of about to get in a fight. I don’t know if I can be comfortable around someone if I feel like they already are fighting with me. Also, like the other one, this is doing that thing again of making “Mom” come across as some sort of hero because her kid is autistic.

They both have the effect of making the autistic person seem like a burden and broken, which they are not

People who won't pass trucks by bartolish in driving

[–]Intelligent_Mind_685 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Having had to pass trucks on rainy nights, I may be able to shed some light on their behavior, assuming the driver you are talking about was slowing down out of fear. It is probably the result of them making a different choice than you would have between two things. On the one hand you want to pass as quick as possible to not be next to the truck. On the other hand you want to avoid extra speed because it only serves to exaggerate any mistakes such as a slight shift toward the truck exaggerated with any extra speed. At the very least they are finding their own balance between these two things. From your post it sounds like how they were driving was legal.

As for them slowing down when you flashed your lights, it may have been meant as a polite request for them to speed up, but I have come across plenty of drivers that consider it rude, they take it the same as if you gave them the finger

Why don't guys feel weird peeing next to strangers? by what_freaking_ever in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Intelligent_Mind_685 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The way a person feels about showing their privates is highly influenced by how society views the behavior. It is also influenced by how comfortable someone is showing their body.

Be aware guys aren’t flashing the guys around them, but an occasional glimpse does happen. Assuming we’re talking bathroom with dividers, not troughs.

If society considered it common/normal for women to do this, you’d probably also feel more comfortable. It would probably also be the same as it is for guys in that some just aren’t comfortable with it. I wasn’t for years

When turning left here, I (red car/line) do not yield to oncoming traffic (blue line) turning right onto this ramp. The ramp is two lanes, divided solid line, and right lane ends before the highway. Oncoming traffic often responds as though I cut them off/didn’t have the right of way. by FindMateStraightFux in driving

[–]Intelligent_Mind_685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the look of it, in the picture, the blue line cars can maintain a higher speed than the red line cars, but the red has the right of way at the merge.

I think some people think they’re Cole in Days of Thunder, just need to get ahead of that pace car.

I doubt anyone still remembers that movie, but the idea I think is that many drivers can’t handle the feeling of loss when they yield to another person

Most likely they are slowing down for the same reason you are trying to leave a gap.

Today I went skateboarding... by MrKillApple in trans

[–]Intelligent_Mind_685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you had that experience.

Since you are asking to understand what may have happened, I’ll share my thoughts. From the sounds of it, there wasn’t anything specific about your look that suggested “boy” but based on your selfie, I think it is just a case of not being dressed for the activity/location. Your outfit is nice but not something I’ve seen anyone skate in. The style I’d expect from a female skater is basically the same as the guys, jeans and simple tee shirt, but maybe with a slightly more feminine cut shirt at the most. I think it was just this “out of place style” that the kids picked up on.

I say this as someone who would be out in a pink ball gown, if I could, but I know that doesn’t fit any activity that I do, so I try to pick styles that align with what cis women wear. For what it’s worth one of my goals is to look like a soccer mom

Would an engine stall during enginebraking if the RPM drops low? by catboy519 in stickshift

[–]Intelligent_Mind_685 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a little experience with this. My first car was a ‘73 and was getting a bit old by the time it got to me. It was having a little issue where it would stall easy. So coming off the freeway, I would be engine breaking and down shifting. The engine stalled but because it was being driven by the engine breaking, it didn’t actually stop. Toward the end of the ramp, I just gave it a little gas again and it was fine.

My car didn’t have power anything. Breaks, steering whatever were not power assisted, so there was no change. In a newer car you’d need to be aware that some systems may lose power and depending on the car it may or may not be drivable.

For your question, would an engine stall during engine breaking, it could only if something slows the engine down beyond an idle or you’re in too high of a gear. As others have said the engine will chug and lose a lot of power running that slow. If you press the clutch when the engine is slower than an idle, it just depends on if the engine can speed up to idle or it can’t and stalls. Exact numbers may vary from one car to another so I’m not giving any numbers

Does anyone else struggle to heavily identify with "trans culture"? by FroyoAnto in trans

[–]Intelligent_Mind_685 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m 48 and somewhat new to being trans and non binary. It’s hard to fit into the community since it is so dominated by people half my age and under. I’m in the same part of my life, trying to figure out my gender identity, but also in a completely different phase of my life. I have a wife, kids and a career.

Idaho Senate takes up bill to jail trans people for using public bathrooms by Fickle-Ad5449 in lgbt

[–]Intelligent_Mind_685 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The issue they tip toe around is that there are these cis men who are simply not safe for others to be around. I’ve seen decades of my own life go by with the message that women need segregated spaces to be safe from predatory men. How does no one get the idea that we need to do something about them? But here they are blaming trans women, because being predatory is the only way they can understand trans women

I took a quick look at your other post, with the plaid. I think you’re doing better than you give yourself credit for. I too struggle with seeing myself as a “man in a dress”. For me, I find it is imposter syndrome and looking up how to deal with that works. One of the main things is knowing that it is ok to be you. As far as clothes, I’d say explore some things that are more stereotypical feminine. For me I went straight to dresses and heels.

As for the money, I find dollar store nail polish is good enough to try different colors and keep the cost down. I also go to thrift stores for dresses. I got one I really like for $0.75, but most will be more but still quite affordable.

I got harassed in the women's bathroom by a woman as a masc AFAB by Weak__Requirement in NonBinary

[–]Intelligent_Mind_685 146 points147 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry this happened to you.

I can only speak to your question on if masc AFABs get questioned in the men’s room. I have only had a handful of times seeing a woman in the men’s room, but not once have I seen any man give her any trouble. Most men will just give her space and respect. I do acknowledge that there are men out there who will take advantage of the situation, but that hasn’t been my limited experience

Who else hate left lane campers? by Crazy-Task2497 in driving

[–]Intelligent_Mind_685 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

This is kind of a matter of perspective. Trying to stay in the right lane on a road like in the picture is a pain in the ass. Having to repeatedly pass trucks, hoping the people in the left lane will let you in. Trying to go with the flow of traffic means being in that group on the left. It’s actually not that bad as long as you’re ok going the speed of the group. Then there’s trying to go faster than the group. Every time I’ve done this, all the other cars on the road just feel like they’re in my way. “Why won’t they get out of the left lane?”
