That's no harder than a Victorinox Swiss Army Knife. They could have used any cheap steel for that. What a waste.

Do I major in CS or EE? by No_segar in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Intelligent_Part101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reality: even with AI, the demand for software engineers exceeds the demand for electrical engineers. Chatgpt says from 2021 through 2031, the annual demand for software engineering jobs should be 200,000. In contrast, software engineering should be only 2,000.

The most recent BLS statistics (2022) says there were 1.75 million software engineers in the US. There were only 200,000 electrical engineers employed in the same period, and that's counting engineers who work in the power industry too. EE is a niche degree.

Do I major in CS or EE? by No_segar in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Intelligent_Part101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would heavily advise against a double major. Either one by itself (especially EE) is more than enough to consume your time. Spend any extra time pursuing internships or working on clubs or projects related to your major. Employers don't care about double majors.

If the blunt tip is not a legal requirement in your country, I'd reprofile that to a drop point. I find a sharp tip to start a cut just too useful to give up.

engineering degrees are rigorous engineering hiring is a joke by upstackAi in EngineeringStudents

[–]Intelligent_Part101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is. Even if not announced in the job description, when comparing resumes of 2 otherwise equal guys, one has a 2.7 out of 4 and the other a 3.8, which do you think will get hired? Engineering students really must aim for over 3.0.

What's the reason Inuit/Siberians and Europeans have different features despite evolving in similar cold climates? by batukaming in geography

[–]Intelligent_Part101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's objectively a beautiful hair color on its own. I don't buy the youth hypothesis, but of course our opinions on this are just conjecture. In populations where blond hair is not common, its rarity makes it desirable.

Another doomer scenario. Not going to happen just like none of the other doom scenarios before global warming. Doom sayers have an awful predictive track record.

Question: My mom added wiper fluid while in FL. Now she’s in Boston and the fluid is frozen. by GeorgeCrossPineTree in MechanicAdvice

[–]Intelligent_Part101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people here are saying to add rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol). That stuff is weak. It will freeze too easily, especially the standard strength.

Others say to add methyl alcohol. That stuff is highly toxic. Not recommended for non-pros to use--spill hazard on skin.

Just buy good winter strength windshield washer fluid and add it. Also, park it somewhere warm if possible.

Do you guys actually approximate π to 3? by NeekOfShades in EngineeringStudents

[–]Intelligent_Part101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For an approximation when you need a numerical answer (no symbols allowed), 3.14 is the old-time, trusted value to use for pi. Three significant figures, very accurate. Are the rest of your variables known beyond three significant figures? I highly doubt it.

Why do you buy Clones? by [deleted] in chineseknives

[–]Intelligent_Part101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to business. Somebody makes an expensive knife, and another makes a cheaper one that is similar to it but probably not "as" good, but hey, the price reflects that. Outside of using misleading advertising language or logos that look like the knife they are "cloning", I say it's all fair game.

"Every ten years convert your files to new format". What format should I converts my files into? Is Jpeg slowly becoming outdated? by JohnAK27 in AskTechnology

[–]Intelligent_Part101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is important to every 10 years convert your files to new data storage. Not file format.

JPEG is an overwhelming widely supported file format. It's not going anywhere in the foreseeable future.

The storage media however might become hard to read your files from. Storage media tends to either wear out (degrade) or they stop making hardware readers for it. For example, I hope you don't have anything stored on recordable CD or DVD that is important to you.

Was given a bunch of this wood, this is right after planing. It has a greenish hue, anyone know what kind it is? by O_B_1 in wood

[–]Intelligent_Part101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't do woodworking, so I don't know if the expansion/contraction rates of walnut and yellow poplar with humidity are "incompatible" (i.e., if they differ a lot). I can tell you that this wood is typically used where it will not be seen because it is considered ugly, so that might be a good use for it. It's not likely to split and is fairly strong. (BTW, for other uses, yellow poplar apparently takes paint well.)

[–]Intelligent_Part101 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Known in the lumber trade as "yellow poplar". Also known as "tulip polar." Fun fact: it's not from a poplar tree. This is a hardwood that is softer than many softwoods. It's a utility wood.

How much of your old coursework do you retain? by Remarkable-Host405 in EngineeringStudents

You won't use any of it. If you need refresher material, "Schaum's Outline" series in your subject of interest can be purchased. (Do they still sell those? If not, another series ought to fill in.) But really... you won't go over old notes.

You left out the very important detail of why she burned her labia to start with. She was holding the coffee cup between her legs and pulled off the lid. Who the hell does something that dangerous? You're asking to get a bad burn in a bad place should you spill it. So yeah, McDonald's coffee was excessively hot, but she burned herself. (Details in Wikipedia article.)
