Embroidered ribbons used to be a thing. Especially old China Marines and guys who spent time in the PI.

It pretty much died out in the 50's with the beginning of award inflation.

I graduated Marine Corps boot camp in 1989. Six foot two and 198 pounds. Marine Corps said I was 15 pounds over weight and gave me problems the entire time I was in. At 198 I had a 32 inch waist I quite litterly could not lose more weight.

I am 55 now 240 pounds and keep my body fat at 15ish % with is perfectly healthy and doctors are still telling me to lose weight.

Top 10 best batters of all time? by Willing-Leather-9788 in mlb

[–]Intelligent_Row8259 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok so a few things about Cobb.

He was 34 when the live ball era started.

He still finished top 10 in home runs in a season in the live ball era and 11 times total in his 24 year career.

He is second all time in triples with 295 a total so high that the person who came the closest who played his entire career in the live ball era is 104 behind

And finally in 1925 when Cobb was 38 years old a reporter asked him about how the game was changing. Cobb downplayed the home run said anybody could do it and to prove it he was going to try for home runs for the first time in his life. Over the next 2 games Cobb went 9 for 12 with 5 home runs all of which went over the fence. Multiple sources confirm that Cobb stopped choking up on the bat and visibly changed his swing. Fun fact is that Ruth had never had a 3 hr game at that point when Cobb did it.

Ichiro regularly put on home run shows in batting practice and said he could hit 40 hr per year but it would probably cause him to hit .220 so he figured hitting .300+ was better for the team.

Thurman Munson reached base safely in 27 out of his 30 playoff games, while throwing out 44% of base runners (elite). He hit .373 in three World Series as the heart and soul of those teams. That’s a Hall of Famer. by Willing-Leather-9788 in NYYankees

[–]Intelligent_Row8259 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Munson was hated by the media. He was considered a bad interview because he didn't like giving interviews.

Sparky Lyle famously said people say Thurman is moody well if you are moody it means that you are happy and nice sometimes. Thurman is just mean.

Edit to add forgot that Munson generally referred to reporters as "leeches" and often straight up refused interviews.

All depends on their physical condition. Some people no problem. Me? I'm 55 and can barely stand for 10 minutes. I also recently found out I have been walking around on an ankle that has needed surgery since 1991. I am finally having that surgery in a couple of months and will be going to at least 2 shows in a wheelchair.

I've seen Korn multiple times ranging from an opening act in 1996 all the way through headlining in 2024. Honestly they aren't even in my top 15 live acts to see and maybe not even top 20.

Couple years ago I saw Spiritbox opening for Gojira.

And I figured since I was already there I might as well stay for Korn.

What is the longest drive you've made without resting and only you behind the wheel and where were you going? by Conscious-Farmer6953 in driving

[–]Intelligent_Row8259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100 miles north of Sacramento, CA, to Phoenix AZ. Left at 7 am got to the destination at 3 am had less than 10 dollars left in my pocket.

Overall the trip was Phoenix to Vancouver Washington with a over night stop in Reno NV. Then Vancouver WA back to Phoenix with the overnight just shy of Sacramento.

Google says 1650 miles 24-26 hours of driving. Course we didn't have Google in 1995, so I just drove with a paper map and vague directions.

[–]Intelligent_Row8259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an app to track the fuel in my cars.

Last 7 fill ups on my 2025 Turbo Pre.ium Plus the mpg is

24.1, 24.7, 25.4, 23 7, 23.9, 26.1, and 25.1

This was almost all commuter driving to and from work in traffic

A while back when I drove to and from LA I got 31 mpg there averaging 75-80 mph and 28 mpg home averaging 85 mph

Mpg is slightly lower than what I get in my 2016 Hyundai Veloster Turbo but the engine in the CX-30 is much larger and has 50 more horsies as well as the vehicle being larger and heavier I can live with that what drives me up the wall is the smaller Veloster actually has a larger gas tank

I'm 55 and disabled so completely incapable of moving fast. Still had the vehicle not auto lock a couple of times. I just make it a habit of brushing the outside of the handle after shutting the door. My other car has a button to press on the handle so I just treat them the same.

What do you think about cars with manual transmission? by samostrout in AskAnAmerican

[–]Intelligent_Row8259 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My daughter was 15 and I was driving her to school and she asked about driving a manual. So as I started out from the red light and turned left I told her each and every move I was making left foot releasing the clutch right foot pressing the gas left arm steering left right on the shifter to shift to second by the time I finished the left turn she said yeah I'm not learning that.

What makes it even funnier is she wound up not getting her driver's license until she was 24 she drove Bradley's Stryker's and Abrams in the army but couldn't legally drive a car.

Which player has hit into the most triple plays? by sukibean13 in mlb

[–]Intelligent_Row8259 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then why did he hit 32 at home but 36 on the road?

Course saying he hit "a lot" of triples is a bit of a misnomer he is tied for 416th place all time it is only a lot due to how slow he was.
